shortcat1
5 games remaining... Alex Kovalev - 9 points from 800 in his career. this one is kind of a sad one... with his talent and the players with which he's played, you'd think he'd have more... oh well... that's the way it is, i suppose... in 17 years or more accurately, ... 800 points... that's an average of .955 goals per game... which, on the surface of things looks ok but he's been capable of so much more... again... oh well... GO :hlogo: GO!
bobby
Shortcat you get an F from me in math If Kovalev averaged .955 goals per game in his career, I'd be kissing his butt. Biggest milestone, (or landmark if you prefer) may be the fact that the Habs need 7 points in their remaining 5 games to tie their point total of the past two seasons. 93 points both seasons since Bob Gainey took over the GM duties. Should be close one way or the other. Edited March 29, 2007 by bobby

bobby
Team needs to win out to pass the 93 point mark they have hit the past two seasons. 3 wins and 1 OTL will match the record. I also think that is the number of points they will need to make the playoffs. NO margin for error from here on out.

Nothing depresses me more than the fact that we're stalled at the exact same point total for three years straight - in what is supposed to be a 'rebuilding' phase. Much as I believe that we're going in the right general direction, that fact just shatters my optimism. It simply sucks ass.

Sure you get better draft picks there, but they aren't going to make a difference for a few years, and by that time you may have lost a lot of your fan base, not to mention a lot of revenue, and probably your job. The number one priority going into each season is to make the playoffs at least, then try to rebuild from that starting point, with astute draft picks and selective free agent signings. Save a panicked article or two by the likes of Jack Todd, I don't think anyone sees us as rebuilding anymore. I would point to the fact that we finally have a young nucleus that IS getting better, and to see guys carrying the load that we at least have the option of keeping here for several years is encouraging. Let's get into the playoffs and have a little faith, I think this is a better/more ballanced team than the one that pushed the eventual Stanley Cup champs hard last year, all those kids should have ceilings higher than what we've seen thus far, and should improve next year as well, as long as we (in my opinion) keep Markov and show a little patience. We're not that much different than Buffalo was before breaking out couple of years back (again, just my opinion).
