dlbalr
The IceCaps have signed defenceman Julien Brouillette for the rest of the season. He has been a nice addition since joining the team on a PTO deal earlier.
dlbalr
Brandon MacLean has been released from his PTO. They're back down to 12 healthy forwards now so hopefully that's a sign that someone is close to returning (either Hudon/Crisp or someone from the Habs which forces someone from the big club back down). dlbalr
Scherbak and Farnham were sent back to St. John's after the game last night. No word yet on if they'll be available tonight though.
miklin
Brampton Beast star forward David Pacan (21 goals) has been signed to a PTO by the Syracuse Crunch (AHL). Didn't want to see this happen
dlbalr
It looks like Crisp is healthy as they've sent him to Brampton. Reggie Traccito was released (I'm not sure why he was signed in the first place, their blueline situation is the same now as it was when they signed him). miklin
Brampton D man Jordan Henry loaned to the Rochester Americans. I believe he played today in the Amerks 3-2 victory over the Marlies. I mentioned to Brian that it's frustrating to see the team, with a half decent record for the first time in a couple years, seem to be falling down with not signing Pacan and Henry longterm and Fucale's inconsistent goaltending

(Most ECHL deals are year-to-year.) If they're only on an ECHL contract, they're technically AHL free agents. That's how St. John's wound up with Ranger, Camara, and McCarron last week - all three were on ECHL-only deals and unaffiliated to any AHL team. miklin
made it to Brampton today and the Beast snatched victory from the jaws of defeat despite the best intentions of referee Alex Cote. Henry is back from Rochester. They miss Pacan's scoring prowess but Brandon MacLean (a good Burlington boy) had the hat trick today and Connor Crisp looked good in the 4-3 victory. Sometimes you can see how tired the ECHL players are by the third period with the limit on the number of players teams can dress (most seem to dress three lines and 5 D). I checked to see if they had any Fucale prints or whatever from last week re the Spengler Cup, but they didn't save any. They might reprint them for next year for a bonus for season ticket holders or flex pack holders. Thanks for clarifying the ECHL contracts. ps-former top prospect Brady Vail was playing for Fort Wayne. In a smart move, the Beast are running a hockey camp for kids during March break.> PPS-Fort Wayne no longer have an affiliation with NHL Colorado (the article re their divorce with Colorado cites differences in the philosophy re call ups and how it destabilizes the minor league product. I guess call ups from the Komets would first go to the Cleveland (ex Lake Erie) Monsters
Commandant
Despite the inconsistent play of late, the season so far for the Montreal Canadiens has been positive. The Habs sit a top of the Atlantic division with 62 points. More impressively, the Canadiens have been dealing with key injuries to big names on the team. These injuries have given fans exposure to some of the young prospects in the system. The biggest takeaway this season has been the play of their younger players who have contributed when called upon. http://lastwordonhockey.com/2017/01/23/the-future-looks-bright-for-montreal/

dlbalr
Fucale made 38 saves in Brampton's 2-1 shootout loss yesterday. That got his GAA back down to 3.00 and his SV% up to .900, not exactly what they were hoping for when they sent him down there. Crisp scored for the second straight game and has six goals in 11 games with the Beast.

dlbalr
Chris Terry is a late addition to the All-Star Game so St. John's is back up to two representatives once again. The Skills Competition goes tonight - here's the schedule for who's doing what: http://theahl.com/2017-ahl-all-star-skills-competition
dlbalr
As expected, John McCarron was the first of the PTO forwards to be released. Camara and Ranger are still around for the time being. There's a report out of Sweden suggesting Max Friberg is planning to sign with Frolunda next year. He's denying the report but based on the translation of the interview, he's not ruling it out either. By the way, for anyone wondering what Brampton's lines are like (how Crisp is being used), here's what their lines for today are:
miklin
Brampton won a very good three in a row over Elmira Jackals-two at home and one on the road Andrew Dagostini (goalie) just signed a PTO with the Marlies-hopefully just an injury insurance deal and he will be back with the Beast before the weekend Nice to see Pacman Pacan back from his time with Syracuse
dlbalr
TSN2 has picked up a pair of IceCaps games as part of their nine game AHL schedule. That's the good news. The bad news is that they're all Toronto games which means they're picking up the Leafs TV feed...which means Todd Crocker will be calling the games. http://theahl.com/ahl-action-coming-to-tsn2
miklin
Beast had a very good 3-1 win over the leading Toledo Walleye last night. In fact, Fucale was 7 seconds short getting a shut out. D'Agostini back from his stint with the Marlies. Crisp laying on the body was good and set up the first goal by MacLean. 6 game road trip starts tonight in Toledo. Beast are back on Family day for a 2pm game vs Wheeling. Noted that Toledo assistant coach is pro hockey vet Andy Delmore.

miklin
Beast won 6th in a row with a 7-4 comeback in Indianapolis this afternoon. Have to hand to the team. They had bus legs in the second after a four hr trip from Toledo where they won in OT Saturday. Should be noted too that the ECHL play with a very short bench-Friday night was 3 lines plus David Ling as a floater and 5 D

DON
CH with 1g (17th) 1a in loss today, 8pts in last 5 games. 0.53 goals/game this year (0.42 last year) Scherbak no points today but 4 shots and has been more involved lately.
dlbalr
I guess Bergevin's getting a head start on cornering the useless minor league tough guy depth role for next year as he signed David Broll to a one year AHL extension. Get off the fence...do you think he will be a valuable asset or not? I think most AHL: teams have a couple of these guys don't they? And a bodyguard for the youngsters may be required? dlbalr
Most teams have them but why do you need to sign one a year ahead of time? They're a dime a dozen and it's not like Broll's playing so well that they needed to get it done right away. It would be more prudent to wait and see how the roster shapes up in the offseason and who else may be out there before committing to filling one of those spots now.
