Below is a link to a breakdown of the Habs salary commitments at hockeyanalysis.

As it stands now, the Habs have 21 guys signed and a payroll of 39.25 million. Players not yet signed are Ryder and the prospect that will fill the last roster spot. Given a rough estimate of signing Ryder (2-2.5) and the prospect at 800k the Habs will have a current salary commitment of roughly 42-42.5million. Subtract roughly 1.4 million if Aebischer is replaced with Danis.

That puts us in a bit of a restraint, for going into the season/trade deadline. Not much wiggle room, especially if the reports are true that BG is working on a big trade, I am assuming any trade we make will be for a salary increase.

even if a trade cost them a few million more they would still be under the salary cap by a few million. There is still a lot of room. Gainey said yesterday that they have money to spend...they just want to spend it wisely.

Yeah, being at 38-39 million gives them room to add at least 2-3M to the club's payroll and still have room for the deadline pickups..

Yepp, AND a trade would be sending salary the other way, unless of course it's prospects or picks.

and isnt the remainder of the salary at the deadline whats accounted for? so even if we pick up a 7 Mil player at the deadline aprox 2 Mil or less would be added to our cap... Am I wrong?

CoRvInA, afaik, that is correct. A team is only liable for the $ he makes while he plays for that team. So in your example, the team who had him all year gets dinged for the majority of the salary.

Below is a link to a breakdown of the Habs salary commitments at hockeyanalysis.

As it stands now, the Habs have 18 guys signed and a payroll of 33 million. Players not yet signed are Ryder, Perezhogin and Aebischer/Danis. Given a rough estimate of signing Ryder (2-2.5), Perezhogin (800k) and Danis (500k) the Habs will have a current salary commitment of roughly 37 million. Make it 38 million if they decide to stay with Aebischer which I highly doubt.

there are a few discrepancies with this payroll description and others like the one on TSN.ca

which makes for a 1.5 Mil difference... mind you TSN added JP Cote's pay onto it... Begin getting a Million thats true right? But Huet is getting 3 Mil this season and not 2.87 for instance... unless for cap issues you use the average?

For cap purposes, the salary on the cap is averaged out for the length of the contract. If a guy gets paid 5 million in year 1 and 3 million in year 2, the salary (for cap purposes only) is 4 million each season.
