jeffy
1. They tried to put a team in Hamilton in the early 80's I believe and Ballard and the owner of the Sabers blocked it. 2. Seattle is one city that I cant figure out why it doesnt have a team yet. 1. that would likely happen again because a lot of buffalo's crowds come from canada... 2. they dont have a suitable arena... it only has 15000 seats for a hockey setup and if its not good enough for the sonics, why should anyone else go there? Pierre the Great
The new passport requirements for going across the border might make Hamilton a good choice for a team. If you say a lot of Sabres fans are from Canada that will stop when the new entry requirments go into place in the next few years. Seattle is differnt. Yes they support local teams but if someone asks them to build an arena with public money you will start a riot. People there are tired of building stadiums to keep teams. Seattle needs a public transportation system. They had everything set up to start expanding their expensive monorail back in the 90's but then The Mariners and Seahawks wanted new stadiums and the city paid dearly and now they had to scrap the public transportation expansion because the rest of the state didn't want to pay for the multi billion dollar project. Thats why the Sonics are moving to Oklahoma City. People are tired of building arenas and stadiums. They have more pressing needs at the moment. hankhab
IMO, most logical spot for another Canadian team is the Toronto area. The leafs haven't won a cup since 67, haven't even been close (except in the eyes of TO media), and they still pack the place every night. There are some hockey fans starving for cheaper tickets in TO, as well.
Pierre the Great
Yeah, I heard the Garden was in need of a tenant. What blow that would be to leafs nation. A team playing in the garden. classic. If they put a rival team in toronto. Then hey what the hell, why not, bring back maroons. Actually another team in the GTA does make a lot of sense. Since NYC has two teams why not the GTA since we all know they strive to be the next NYC.
shortcat1
Just read an article where Didi Mateschitz (boss of the Austrian company Red Bull) says that he wants to bring the NHL back to Quebec. Red Bull is doing tons of sports marketing ... Formula 1 (Red Bull & Torro Rosso), soccer (Red Bulls Salzburg, New York), ice hockey (Red Bulls Salzburg), skiing, etc... He surely has the money to bring NHL back to Quebec - maybe there will be soon a new francophone rivalry? And which team will go there? Pittsburg? NOT LIKELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :king: :hlogo: :king:
CoRvInA
the problem with hamilton is that they're stuck in between toronto and buffalo I know that a new team has to be outside a certain perimiter or they have to pay a great amount in royalties in order to get in the league...now they have to deal with two teams...sucks to be hamilton Lets just move Hamilton a few hundred Ks In the middle of Lake superior that will do the trick It won't be Los Vegas. Vegas is not a good sports city. Yes lots of people go there but they don't think "gee tonight would be a good night to see a hockey [basketball, baseball, football] game". There are too many other attractions that are unique to Vegas. hell Yeah Las Vegas we can even trade our Radek Bonk back there! Nah I'm getting to like Mr. Bonkers! The Devils are much closer (and will still be even after they move to Newark).
