  1. Agree on both points. The second line has been very good on this road trip, though. Roy-Dach-Newhook might have some potential yet.
  2. I believe Brian wrote these in the fall, before Struble was called up.
  3. I think these are the lines for tonight. Who will be 4C though? Pezzetta? Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky Roy - Newhook - Armia Gallagher - Evans - Anderson Pearson - Pezzetta - Ylonen Matheson - Guhle Xhekaj - Savard Struble - Harris Allen Primeau
  4. Definitely voodoo. And no one expected Lindgren to play 90+ games in the NHL, either. That said, having Fowler ranked third is still encouraging. Hopefully this time the voodoo is on our side.
  5. Scott Wheeler of the Athletic ranked Fowler as third-best goalie prospect in the NHL, behind only Wallstedt and Askarov (and ahead of Knight and Levi).
  6. And that's a legit winning streak, too, with eight regulation wins.
  7. Some of the issues were with the management team but some were also with Kotkaniemi's lack of maturity; he really did not improve significantly after moving south, either. Contrast him with Slafkovsky and the difference is super clear. Admittedly it might be different now, though.
  8. If he were on a $2M contract for 2-3 years, there would be teams that would be happy to give it a shot, but not with the deal Waddell gave him.
  9. I think this is wishful thinking on the Carolina fans' part, not to mention that the writer doesn't understand how salary retention works. Hard to see anyone taking on six years of salary retention. And a reclamation project at $5M/year for six more years? I don't think there would be many GMs that would risk that. Maybe Carolina will buy him out at $800K/year for 12 years? https://cardiaccane.com/posts/kotkaniemi-s-value-at-the-trade-deadline-01hr0t3defrf
  10. Maybe 15, maybe 25. This one's not finished yet so don't know how much of a jump will be needed to get into the 95-point range. But, regardless of where they finish, like PMK, I do expect to see a step forward in results--not only in individual performances by the young players--next year.
  11. 0.0/82 before being sent to Laval and 21.6/82 after being recalled. In retrospect, it was a brilliant move. Armia is only six goals away from his career high.
  12. Maybe this is why I struggled in English class!
  13. I suspect Armia will play out his contract with the Habs. As you say, not enough to get anything significant back, and yet his contract is not crippling the team. And his next contract (with whoever he signs with) will be considerably more modest.
  14. Armia has some value but not $3.5M, that was wishful thinking by Bergevin. Anderson is a much more difficult problem.
  15. Habs' starting lines: Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovský Roy - Newhook - Armia Anderson - Evans - Gallagher Pearson - White - Ylonen Matheson - Guhle Xhekaj - Savard Harris - Kovacevic Allen Primeau
  16. Not directly the fiscal situation (ie how is the cash flow of the team, or the balance sheet). It's just an estimate of what someone might be willing to pay for the team. It's more to do with the financial potential of the team rather than the current state--and the prestige level of owning said team. That prestige will entice billionaires to buy, but a team in Winnipeg will generally be less desirable than one in Toronto, NYC or LA, for example. Whether they sell 2000 more season tickets or not really won't make much of a difference in that perceived value. Which is why I really wouldn't use the estimated franchise value as a proxy for the team's financial performance, any more than I would use the estimated brand value to judge whether TikTok does better financially than BMW.
  17. Franchise value doesn't directly affect the team, that's like the stock price. It's the perceived value of the team, but having a higher (estimated!) value doesn't bring any additional revenue to the team. And while 5th-lowest is not high on the NHL scale, it does not necessarily mean that it's not a viable team. We really don't have enough data to determine that.
  18. Outshot the Marlies 37-29 but lost 4-1. Woll is definitely a good goalie by AHL standards!
  19. It looked like Kloten might avoid the relegation round but the current five-game losing streak has them solidly in the bottom two in the league.
  20. Maybe yes. But tickets are far from the only income source. I expect the TV contract will bring the Jets much more revenue than Arizona, Anaheim or Caroline etc will get. Merchandising is another facet, don't know how well that works for the Jets. But, for sure, ticket revenue is not the only determining factor.
  21. Indeed. And slight difference in the level of hockey. My point was that the size of the city is not the only thing. The product and the price matter, too.
  22. 13,000 average attendance is not just a question of the size of the city. London gets more than 9,000 to their OHL games!
