  1. Don't think anyone was suggesting he would necessarily ask for 8 years ... but at 32, depending on various variables (e.g.,AAV, how TT has played the next two seasons, where the rebuild is at), even four years might be more term than they should be offering a 30+ player ... if Tyler were willing to take an "J'aime Montréal" discount that would certainly be a positive.
  2. Didn't realize you were THAT old 😉
  3. Elite prospects shows rankings ranging from 35-50 ... so early to mid-ish second.
  4. Chasing the playoffs next season would (IMO) just be returning to the same hamster wheel they have been on for the last 29 years.
  5. I think the plan is to suck next season so that they have an opportunity to possibly get Bedard or Michkov ... then, start to rebuild around the youngsters and retained veterans the next year and hopefully take the first H&G shot at the playoffs three years from now ... but TT's contract expires before that "shot" ... and as was pointed out above by Tomh009, he will likely be the type of player that the habs should not then be signing ... he will be 32 years old in the spring of 2024 and likely looking for one last contract with money and term ... not the Habs ideal UFA target for the 24/25 season. But arguments are just opinions ... nothing that can be proven
  6. Maybe he needs some time in Trois Rivières to get his confidence back ... KIDDING ... playing behind a decimated AHL roster may feel a lot like most of his games with the Habs ...
  7. They are the type of players that should be kept if you are trying for the playoffs ... but TT's contract likely expires before the Habs are really in that mode.
  8. Per the press conference, VL says in 2008 he OK'd a trade to Montreal but the owners/teams couldn't work things out ... and as a UFA he picked Philly because Laviolette won him over (ironic that Mike was dumped three games into VL's first year with the Flyers) ... just sharing, not saying
  9. As was raised during the press conference, this appears to be VL dripping his toe into the ocean of NHL management, to decide whether he wants to wade in deeper as his children grow up (I believe he said his youngest is 8).
  10. If Bergie was here he might be one of "his guys" ... but I agree with you.
  11. I'm OK with one more ... just for your sake ... after that, no need to climb the standings ... just play well and win the odd game.
  12. I've seen that in several places (of course they could all be referencing an unconfirmed report) ... would indicate to me that he likely will not fill a core management position.
  13. In the hypothetical ... short-term success should never override long-term plans ... once, for whatever reason, H&G decided Toffoli was tradable a run of success for a few games is no reason to change their mind.
  14. Agreed ... only for this season, really the remainder of this season, leaves full flexibility going forward
  15. Have no particular hopes for him but he has seemed to be a "good soldier" ... the type of person that every team needs on their AHL team ... whether or not his goaltending keeps him there (AHL not Laval) is another question
  16. He was one of my favourites as well ... but sadly he was never available ... it will be interesting to see if he stays in Anaheim despite not getting the GM's position ... if he does, I then have doubts he would ever have been the right guy for the Habs.
  17. Alzner's buyout drops from $1,958,333 to $833,333 for the next two seasons, but it is still there.
  18. The counterbalance to that is that the Habs only have him for one more season ... Jake, Frederik Andersen and Semyon Varlamov are likely the top UFA goalies summer after next and Allen will be the youngest of the three (32 vs 33 vs 35) ... no guarantee they will be able to keep him around ... but could make more sense to look at him as 2023 deadline trade bait.
  19. Based on his NA stats, Klostin strikes me as Evans/Poehling-ish ... not much of a sweetener in addition to the first rounder Perron would be a good piece as I expect he could be flipped at the deadline, especially if salary was retained Don't know that I would want the Habs to use one of three salary retention slots for this trade deadline and the next three seasons on Armia I wonder if STL would like to move Scandella (3.275) rather the Habs than retaining salary on Armia ... would be even better cap-wise for the Blues than Habs retaining $1.7 on Armia ... Marco is 6th in 5-on-5 TOI on Blues blueline ... his only real role seems to be on the PK, he is the top TOI D (but this season Chiarot could fill that role for STL) ... MS would give the Habs a popular, local, veteran LHD who would free up Edmundson for a trade (likely after the season) ... JE should have good value.
  20. Per CapFriendly, NYRs only are using 45/50 contract slides ... so I expect in the concept of that trade that Hughes would push to include an AHL contract ... maybe two if he could.
