  1. It just shows that Higgins is smarter than you are
  2. They were not in the rookie tournament last year either. At the time Gainey had mentioned they believed the players benefited more from working with the Canadien's coaches than playing in a rookie tournament. That is my recollection of the matter.
  3. I have no disagreement with your post and would add why can't any player have a summer free of questions from hockey or concerning his team? They are on the microscope from the moment training camp opens to the end of their season and that should be sufficient. Golf tournament is NOT a mandatory requirement of being on the team and I would not travel that distance to appear at a golf tournament only to have to return home and come back in a few weeks.
  4. Nothing, ZERO, NODA, why would you think Montreal had to pay anything? O'Byrne probably was allowed to enter into a first offender program which he completed.
  5. I have the same question. People should refrain from creating acronyms making ZERO sense except to themselves.
  6. Does anyone have pictures of the old jerseys?
  7. 7 or 8 years for Kovalev is ridiculous, max 3-4 years. He is not getting younger and greater risk of injuries as you get older.
  8. Do you want to change your third line centre?
  9. I do not understand the feeling out there about this player. He brings more in intangibles to a team then many high priced, high ego players who play for themselves. This guy loves the game, loves the team, and always gives his all. He is much better then most players playing defense in this league.
  10. I suppose Gainey would be appreciated if he made all the trades that fans on this board and the media experts say he should make. When the trades or free agent hires did not work out the fans and media could call for his head. I just like the fact Gainey does not panic and does not make decisions because of talk shows and fan forums. I do enjoy this forum and read it every day but sometimes we seem to get carried away. With that said keep the ideas coming.
  11. It is easy to spend other peoples money. Hossa at $9 million dollars for 9 years is not worth the risk. Thre is no gaurantee Hossa can deliver for 9 years or even 5 years. Why take the risk that ties your team for years? Sundin at $10 million dollars for 2 years is also too much. Gainey is a prudent manager of his resources. Continue to build from within and maybe the occasional trade.
  12. You forget the value of the dollar is not what it used to be. For professional athletes 1.5 million dollars is Not outrageous by any means. I would pay him that money to do what he did last year.
  13. Shanahan, I would believe he is too old, he has been a great player but at some point in time enough is enough. I would rather see Montreal take a younger player.
  14. No way Higgins is compensation for the right to sign or even if Montreal signs Sundin. Draft picks and maybe a player like Grabovski, but Higgins is too high a price.
  15. Too Much, not giving up on Plekanec.
  16. According to Beachmin, a teammate of Selanne, this move is not going to happen because Selanne's family is established in LA and children attend LA Schools. Selanne will either play for Ducks or not play
  17. Is he shorter then Briere? St. Louis? Perrin? They have made a place for themselves in the NHL. The new rules allows for a small player with skills, determination, and strength to make a place on a team. So we need not be so quick to write anyone off.
  18. Can he attend if he pays his own way and all of his expenses to attend the camp? I thought I read someplace where he could do it. ???
  19. Be careful what you wish for, Boston was number 1 and Montreal was number 8 and guess who won that series? It was not the number 1 rated team. Was that 1971? I was in the military at the time and I may have the year wrong but the scenario is correct.
  20. I believe Cary Prices receives more than a sniff for Rookie of the Year. I believe one more win and he ties Patrick Roy's first year number of wins. His impact on the success of the team compared to the impact of the other rookies on their team is greater.
