  1. Also have to factor in that for his time in Calgary, you need to factor in not just games missed, but also games he should have missed. He continued playing when he should have got surgery during two of his season in Calgary, which only increased the amount of wear issues with both the hips and wrists, by not dealing with the injuries at the right time - much like his foot injury last year. He was an extremely popular player in Calgary until the media and fans turned on him. Hdid have chronic other year’s as well, he just didn’t miss his games and it didn’t effect him as much earlier. During the Covid year, he should have dealt with his injuries, but instead played hurt, and it reduced his effectiveness in the playoffs. It’s one thing to suck it up in the playoffs after a hard year, it’s another to not being able to be effective in the playoffs because you didn’t deal with the issue at the right time. i would not want him him signed for over 3 years and no more than $4m. Even then, if a team offers a first+, I think you have to take it. I also think that at his current salary, a team may be willing to give up more than a 2nd rounder for him, even though his production has fallen. Centres are a premium at the deadline, and ones that can play both ends of the ice effectively at a low salary will be worth more. If we were close to being a contender, he is exactly the type of guy I’d want our team to get. While we are not that many points back of a wild part spot CURRENTLY, I still don’t think that we are even a legit bubble team. We are 25th in the league, and while I said at the start of the season I think we’ll finish between 25-28, I think we will still finish closer to 27-28. Next year hopefully we are at least a legit bubble team, 25/26 is the year we should be looking at being a solid playoff team. Given where we are, I don’t see the point of holding on to Monohan IF someone is willing to give up a 1st+ for him, or Savard.
  2. I don’t think it means someone is on the doghouse. It’s more of a matter of having more bodies that can play, and you play the ones that are playing the best - which could change every few games. At some point I think they will move one of the veteran Dmen. Frankly the upside with the kids (maybe even the floor), is better than some of the veterans we have. It’s not like the veterans don’t make mistakes. I cringe every time I see Savard trying to play goal!
  3. 100% agree. The dumb thing to do is try and trade for someone to fill Dvorak’s spot and waste a roster spot to fill a hole in a development season. I’m hoping some team will wan to make a move earlier. There are a lot of teams that could use guys like Savard and Monohan. We may be able to get two first round picks +, or equivalent level of high end prospects for either - especially with 50% retention.
  4. I think the move to the Bell Centre did that!
  5. That seems like a silly statement in the article. We are not a playoff team. We will not make the playoffs. If we get offered a 1st+ for Monohan we have to move him. If the offers aren’t that great and he is willing to sign a 2 or 3 year deal at reasonable rate - under $4m, that is the only scenario I’d keep him. if we move him, we bring in Anderson, or someone else from Laval. But you don’t hang on to Monohan, nice w might finish 27th instead of 24th without him, unless you have him signed to a reasonable short term deal. If we get a good offer, we have to move him.
  6. Yeah - I didn’t see any Laval games, but it looked like he was productive until he got injured. Worth a look if he can finally be productive at the NHL level before his contract is up.
  7. Well he seemed to be playing well until he got injured - seemed productive anyways.
  8. That may be an option if Arizona is still around. However, they could finally move if they don’t get a rink deal worded out. Salt Lake City could be their new home for that season and I can’t see a new over with money wanting to have dead cap space.
  9. Of Andersson players well when he returns, I hope we give him a serious look with the habs. May as well with Dach and Newhook out.
  10. I’d say Dvorak is a double pay, and Armia at least a $1M more than he should have been offered - I would have preferred to give his salary and term to Lekhonan and let Armia walk. He’s always been a show up less than he 25% of the games he plays guy. when you keep paying extra to 3rd and 4th liners, at the end of the day it limits your ability to sign actual quality players. We may have one LTIR - but it’s a huge contract with a lot of term. That’s really going to limit off-season maneuverability when we will want to add, and spend to the cap. His LTR is like having 2.5 players on LTIR.
  11. We have a lot though. Gallagher, Dvorak, Armia, Price, Anderson, for me it would also include Savard. While we can LTIR Price, it does limit our ability in the offseason when we will be looking to sign people and spend to the cap.
  12. Agree. The number of unmoveable contracts really limits our ability to accelerate the rebuild. At least by 25-26c we will be rid of a lot of the bad contacts - other than the unmovable ones like Gallagher’s deal.
  13. Thanks Commandant and dblar for your explanations!
  14. Only thing I’ll miss is the opportunity to be able to trade him, if there is a GM dumb enough to want him!
  15. He never got going period since coming here! Horrible, horrible trade!
  16. Wouldn’t he be on the first year of his contract this year if he is playing in the AHL this year, and then have only 2 years left on his contract? I thought that was one of the incentives for college players that could become free agents, but chose to sign their ELC when their college season ends, so they can burn the first year of their ELC contract. It doesn’t impact free agency, but it does allow them to sign their second contract earlier without the ELC compensation restrictions. Wouldn’t the same situation apply for Reinbacher. If not how does it work for his compensation in the AHL.
  17. For judo we need to move someone now??? I’d be looking at trading Savard or Matheson before moving the young D.
  18. You need those guys on a cup winning team - particularly if they ar cheaper than one dimensional offensive of defensive dmen.
  19. His contract is a bargain and would be easier to move than Matheson or Savard.
  20. Won’t that burn part of his ELC? Is it worth it bringing him to the AHL, if it burns a year of his ELC with only part of a year left, with no guarantee of the Rockets being in the playoffs?
  21. I don’t want to see Harris moved, when he is of our young Dmen that can play on either side. No need to rush into any moves with our young dmen this year unless someone seriously overpays.
  22. I think it’s fairly safe to say that the following won’t happen: 1) don’t see Calgary finishing 20-32 this year 2) Florida is not going to finish bottom 10 this year, so Phullunwill get that pick, which means Calgary will get their 2025 pick. 3) If Huberdeau continues to suck and the flames get gutted by free agent departure, they will probably be picking in the bottom 10, and I really don’t see Florida finishing bottom 10 next year either, so we probably get Florida’s pick next year.
  23. I’m happy with his improvement in the D zone, but we aren’t paying him to be Bob Gainey. We need him to be the 40+ goal scorer he is capable of becoming. I think part of his issue is probably needing time to get his timing back after shoulder surgery.but I also think part of the issue is his linemates. Too many times passes are behind him, and he has to reach back, get control before shooting, instead of unleashing his wicked one timer. The other issue is that as usual, the pass to Caufield is so predictable, that the opposition has two guys on him a lot of the time. Even though his covered, Matheson has made idiotic attempts to pass it to Caufield, when Slafkovsky has been open. Until the team learns to use the double coverage on Caufield to their advantage by passing to other guys that are open, his teammates will continue to limit Caufield’s effectiveness.
  24. I think we need to try and be a bubble team that squeaks in next year, and be a playoff team next year. Having said that’s not going to happen unless at least the majority of the following happen: 1) Dach is healthy, and productive as a viable 1a/1b 2) Caufield starts producing like the 40 goal scorer we all think he is. 3) more consistency and production from Suzuki. 4) Slafkovsky continues to develop and starts producing- he still has another couple of years to become the player we hope he will be - but he has to start being a productive presence. 5) we have at least two forwards step up from Laval by the end of this year and show that they can produce at the NHL level. 6) At least three of of young Dmen take the next steps in their development - Guhle needs to be a legit #1/2 type of guy and has to play like he would be one on a GOOD team. Struble continues to impress, improve and not be a victim of the sophomore regression. At least one of Harris, Barron, or Wifi show they are capable of legit top line minutes. Ideally, Matheson gets pushed to the second pairing (I’m assuming Savard will be gone). 7) Hutson shows he can at least step in and help the PP and shows that he can play in the NHL - even though he shouldn’t be expected to be a star right away. 8) we get rid of some dead weight in the lineup - Armia, Dvorak (no hope of dumping Gallagher), to create some cap room to bring in a proven scorer. 9) goaltending- Montembeault needs to show he can be top 10 goalie - with the young D, we are going to need it. A lot has to go right for us to make it next year, and I wouldn’t look at the fact that we are close to a playoff spot to think we can win without changes up front to get more scoring, and a drastic improvement on D. That’s why I think 25/26 is the year to target - more development time for the kids and we will either be rid of or have a better opportunity to move contracts that are hard to move for guys that are not consistent or reliable - Armia, Svorak and Anderson.
