  1. .We should have kept Roy over Trembley, enough said? You don't throw away your franchise player, ever.
  2. He should have been fired 14 months ago and every day he continues to hold his job is a mistake. IMO. He seems to have no problem winning out of the gate but has no idea of how to conform as other teams figure out his system. I wish it was not the case because I like the guy, but he has to be released and the sooner the better. Let Kirk take over. Yes know he doesn't speak French.... Whatever. Not sure if I would expect better results with Jullien. We need a change behind the bench and we need to bring in 1 or 2 more top tier players if we are going to make a run this year. If we aren't making a run then MB is a fool for bringing in Weber.
  3. Go Habs Go! Streaming in the English Channel
  4. Another costly stream for me but have only not watched the CBJ game and that didn't turn out well so streaming at sea it is. GO HABS GO! Not much to say when we have no complaints, that is a good thing. Also no DD on the PP again, another good thing!
  5. First game I missed all season, didn't want to pay the $20 internet at sea cost to stream it. I take the blame
  6. We gave up one of the most popular popular with the fans players on the team. I loved watching him as much as anyone did. What we got in return is a better defensive defenceman with an equal point output. He will never be as charismatic or seen in the media as PK was, but on the ice he is proving to be a stud. His numbers are amazing, his control of the play is great. He is definitely not, as others state, a problem in his own end. He does not have a fast stride but like Chara covers the ice very quickly due to his size giving him a big stride. Therefore you don't see him caught up ice of beaten by faster players. This thread is well named as there are so many who continue to whine about a trade that is proving to be a huge success. The trade was made for now not 8 years down the road when we no longer have a prime Carey Price. This is our cup window, not 8 years down the road. Accept that fact and you will come to like the trade. Last year when Carey went down somehow the team totally fell apart. We were lacking leadership in the locker room IMO. Nobody that I know of on this forum are privy to what goes on in there but I have to say we should not have been as bad as we were without Price. This team has the ability to compete regardless of which NHL goalie is in the net. Price does put us over the top but we still should have been a playoff team. This move may easily have addressed that issue as well. That of course is speculation but something was obviously wrong in that room for the past few seasons. We all spoke of it on here. Hopefully those theories are not needed anymore and we continue to dominate on the ice. Glad to have Shea here. Didn't get the trade myself at first. Hated it in fact. Now I remember why I am only an armchair GM. Good trade.
  7. Anyone want to trade records with Nashville at this point? Defencemans results are not best evaluated by points. That is why Harvey was the best ever. IMO (yes, you all can like Orr and his one cup....). Weber is getting the job done more than I could have hoped, if he continues to be a top defenceman into his forties like a few have managed we won this trade big time. I hear talk about him being slow, but I don;t see him being caught up ice or being beaten,. He covers the ice real fast actually, just doesnt need fast choppy strides to do it as he is huge. I love Subban, but I am happy to now have Weber and am sure when Nashville misses the playoffs fans down there will not be happy. I will take cups over flash and goals any day of the week. Hope he brings us some.
  8. Rask has a sore 5 hole? So happy to say I get this on tv tonight whilecruosing the med! Love this modern tech! Havent missed on yet this year unlike last spring... been on the tele or streamed for $20 worth of data. I will pay that. Go habs go
  9. Actually watching this one on a cruise ship off Italy where it is now 2am. Terrible first period. Got to play better even strength if they are going to get into this. Hope we kill the penalty to start the second or I may not be up until 4am as planned....... Go Habs Go!!
  10. Ok, I think we can all agree that Weber stats have shown decline. That is a no brainer. I am hopeful that a change of scenery and a new partner on the line help him turn that around and he has 2 career seasons ahead of him. Then we can move him while he still has value and not be stuck with the back end of his contract. Right now it is all just speculation. Nobody has any idea how he will do when paired with Beaulieu. I believe his corsi will be a little different next years as will PKs. They are both headed to different situations. different systems. Shea will see his PP numbers blow up this year. Why? Capt Kirk is running the PP and I don't think DD will be on it. He never had that before and still had good PP numbers. PK will be rushing more and therefore scoring more but also being caught up ice more often. No MT holding him back. His game and corsi will also change. My point being, you can't assume a player will be the same corsi when he is on a new team, therefore I don't need to hear about it. It has no bearing on the future what so ever. It is like saying Glen Anderson was an elite goal scorer because he happened to play with Gretzky. He wasn't as was proven in Toronto, but his corsi rating in Edmonton was through the roof. You can use these stats to say how a player will probably perform given the same team, but corsi has no relevence IMO once a player has changed teams.
  11. Mine just called me at sea $15 a minute, MB, my son says you ruined his life. %&!^ off and die! Looking for a new jersey to wear, Las Vegas I think!
  12. What happened to the leaf bashing thread? Here is a good one, just the lead in to the story is funny. "Even Better Roster" What? Even better than the roster that finished dead last? LMAO at this one. http://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/twigs/2016/6/19/11973218/maple-leafs-to-play-pre-season-game-in-halifax
  13. I thought you were on something..... Banned substance could be a coke habit for all we know. I think he had an issue and that is why we let him go. If that is the case it was another good move by MB that made him look bad for a minute.
  14. Ok, who ever has the frigging voodoo dolls, your job is complete. You can stop now.
  15. Showed good hands on his goal too. Seems to have really good hand eye. If he keeps those numbers up he could be an important piece going forward. Lucky we have Scrivens in nets our we might actually win one here. He has to have the worst lateral movement in pro hockey, even semi pro. He really is terrible. Two of the goals he demonstrated he cannot get from post A to post B. Plain useless.
  16. I fought hard to name my son Guy. Didn't win but it is his middle name.
  17. The money referred to the new 1 mill contract he had just signed, again a fact. I am out of this thread, I'll buy you a beer if we meet Commandant. Unless you are sporting an Orr jersey. Go ahead, you can have the last word.
  18. I said he let Canada down by not playing, that is 100% true. The whole sporting world was shocked by the announcement. True, he played every game the year before and opening day, true. He was skating before the series, true. I never once said he faked his knee injury. That would be a stupid comment and I never said it. Only you Commandant have used the term Faker in this thread. I do believe Eagleson shut him down, and that is probably true As for the 9 games before the playoffs he missed, that is what we now call resting up your top player for the playoffs, which he played. Yes I did say BS, because he was skating and it has been said it hurt him every single game he ever played. If you do not believe he was shut down because he had just signed a milllion dollar deal then you my friend are the thick headed dim witted one.
  19. Please show me where I said he was a faker, liar! Better go put your pants out, they are burning.
  20. If we can keep this going another 24 hours, then the west coast trip will be over and we will have barely noticed. I don't mean to offend, although sometimes I do. You should see me at kids minor hockey games now. Trying to be correct in today's world is hard on me. I still yell at the refs when they blow a call, been warned about it by the league heads more than once but they find it hard to ban an old codger or I would be out. As I said above in answer to Lovett's question. I seem to have accomplished what I set out to do here. Hopefully we are all still friends at the end of it all. Bruins suck, Leafs suck, Orr sucked Neely sucked Sittler sucked and Lanny and his mousttache was just goofy and sucked, Chara sucks and so does wait Who is on the Leafs now? Oh well he sucks too!
  21. Yes, he missed 9 games at the end of the season and a few through it, if you care to search it. He did have surgery the June before the Summit Series but was skating before hand and played shortly after. Everyone thought he would play and the announcement that he would miss the series shocked the sporting world at the time. It was probably not his decision but that of Eagleson who didn't want his million dollar player to be sidelined seeing half of his team had jumped to the WHL that summer. Doesn't change the fact he was there for his Bruins but not his country. Doesn't change how I felt or feel about him. Great talent, but a friggin Bruin, May not have been his decision, but it was a Bruins decision, and again he was one of them. I understand the Ontario boy thing you are trying to defend, sort of. I am from Dartmouth went to school in Cole harbour but won't be caught supporting Cindy. If you want to worship a Bruin you are welcome to do so. I choose not to and never will.
  22. Some controversy and distraction from the pathetic season. Some insight into why I disagree with MT's handling of Subban and Beaulieu, That in my eye all blue liners do not need to be defensively responsible to be effective players. Oh yeah, and that the Bruins suck, one and all and Orr was one so therefore.....sucked. Don Cherry was the head of the suckage and still inhales a big one. One more thing, that some people around here can not debate without taking personal shots because they haven't reached that level of maturity yet. I would still like a reason why Orr didn't play vs Russia when he had not missed a game the season before and didn't the season after. I still think that was wrong. Then again, didn't need him, even a lame duck like Henderson did ok for us. Never did much else. If he hadn't scored there would anyone remember him? He would be like Ron Ellis. Yes, Leafs suck now and then too! I think I managed to accomplish all the above. Oh and KoRP, you hit the nail on the head!!!
  23. What went wrong? We lost Price and with him the team lost their confidence, I agree it would be nice if we could get rid of some fringe players on our roster but sometimes that is easier said than done. Contracts are contracts and sometimes they are really hard to move. Sometimes you are just stuck with guys you probably should not have given contracts to or such long contracts. DD Emelin and Eller will all be here next year I think.
  24. Orr played on the winningest and most stacked team of his time too. Take a look at his lineup. It was a pretty loaded team. Remember now, I am not denigrating Orr ( you really like that word don't you) I admit he was one of the best players of all time. I question his play as a defenceman and always have. Yes he was a plus 120, on a team that was a plus 170 versus teams that were minus 120. The scoring in the NHL during his years playing was silly. There were goalies n the league that had been pulled from semi pro teams to fill in rosters. Half the teams did not have more than a handful of players NHL quality and they were the players teams deemed unworthy of protecting in the expansion draft. There was no such separation from the top 5 teams to the rest of the league in any other era. That alone has to be responsible for some of those numbers. Robinson continued his consistant good numbers through the 80s on a very weak team. His numbers are not only from a 5 year dynasty as you would make it out. Try again. Orr was great, not the best d-man but great.
  25. Regarding plus minus as being the end all be all of who was the greatest d-man, which I think is not the only stat that should be looked at, that makes Robinson by far the best player of all-time and Orr the best Player of the '71 season. But as I said, that is one stat and not the one I use to judge a d-man's ability to control the game. Harvey's career was over before that stat was compiled so we don't know if his was better or not. Could be he was a plus 200 at times, but there is no stats to prove what he was plus minus wise. It would only be conjuncture. There are reasons though that many of the old timers mention Harvey over Orr as best on the blue line. Larry Robinson, career, +730 Bobby Orr, career, +597 Again, Orr was one of the best players of all time. I stand by my belief he was not the best d-man. You are welcome to believe what Don Cherry believes. I don't remember it the same as he does.
