  1. Only option we really have with Gomez is buy him out or send him to Hamilton. Nobody wants him with his contract, nobody. He's not even useful for the cap floor next year because the CBA is going to be renegotiated so the floor will change. Nobody will take him on right now with the chance they won't need his contract to hit the cap floor. Maybe in the summer it might be the case, but by then we'll have our decision to bury him or buy him out already made. I've said all along, bury him in Hamilton, there's no way he should haunt us for the next 3 years with a cap hit if we get rid of him. At least if he's buried and he's doing really well in Hamilton we can call him up and take a chance on him again if cap space permits that.
  2. Gleason 2 minutes for roughing, Eller 2 minutes for being punched.
  3. I'm really liking how physical we've gotten since the last goal.
  4. I missed the first 5 mins of the game. Chris Lee ref again tonight?
  5. I wouldn't buy him out. The way he's playing, he doesn't deserve hurting our cap for another 2 years after this year. Bury him in the minors.
  6. All pushing for the playoffs will do is mess everything up. We won't make the playoffs. Trying to make the playoffs hurts our draft and our future. Buying and losing contracts for nothing cripples our future. Now on the other side of this say by chance we do make the playoffs. Then what? We're a team that has little to no chance at the cup. So we make the playoff only to be put out the first round. Tank the season and build a contender or cripple the future to be a playoff bump for another team. I know my choice.
  7. I think we're just on a f everything up year. Falling out of contention for the playoff early, making weird, ineffective moves to try to get in contention and still lose, now we're within sight of a great draft pick and we're winning again. Probably gonna end up outside the top 10 and nothing but a bad string of trades to show for it. In short a year wasted in building and a year wasted in contending.
  8. So as you all may of read about already, Tim Thomas made another statement on Facebook regarding his personal beliefs. I was reading it on TSN.ca, then watched the video they provided. Multiple times the reporters asked about the comments and wanted him to elaborate on it. Multiple times he responded with, "that's my personal life and it has nothing to do with the Bruins or hockey." Finally he said if there are any other questions about the comments he's going to end the interview. Next question was about the comments, Thomas walked away. Now, on to the hypocrisy. I scrolled down to comment on the article and to my surprise, there's no comment section. Isn't it ironic that reporters find it unacceptable for Thomas to not comment on their questions, yet make it so the public can't comment on their story when you can comment on every other story?
  9. Was it just me, or was the OT period a free-for-all. Refs weren't calling anything and it got out of hand at the end.
  10. I didn't see a future for Gill on this team next year even at the beginning of the season. We have Subban, Markov(hopefully), and Gorges as a core at the beginning of the season. Now we have Emelin, Kaberle and Diaz. Gill doesn't have a whole lot of room on the roster at this point in the season, mostly still here bacuase Markov is still out. That being said I would expect Tinordi on the roster next season to replace Gill's size, and hopefully he uses it better than Gill did. With Emelin emerging as a solid defenseman, we have 5 roster defensemen. I think the wildcard that will push our defense from good next year to great will be Emelin. It'll be on his shoulders if he's good enough defensivily to be 2nd or 3rd pair. If he can push his game to be good enough 2nd pair I think we'll see Markov/Gorges, Subban/Emelin, leaving Kaberle/Diaz(Tinordi). Although I think defensively Kaberle/Diaz is kinda weak.
  11. Pleks would be an excellent #2 center, maybe the best in the league. He could easily anchor the best second line in the league. With a strong first line (Patches/Carter/Cole) Bourque/Pleks/Gallagher would be a strong second line if Gallagher is ready, AK if he's not. The year Kovy/Pleks/AK did so well they started the season as second line and built confidence, then dominated as a first line. Any team thats going to make to to the playoffs needs a reliable second line, this year we don't even have a first line to designate a second line.
  12. I think Moen is more than just a gritty 3rd liner that team will walk away from if there is a bidding war. He has a Stanely Cup, which is a big plus for any team looking at a player of his type. He's shown this year he can put pucks in the net the gritty way, which is needed for any 3rd liner on a cup contender. He's shown he's capable of being a strong shutdown guy, which is what you want from his roll. He's not a Hossa, but he'll probably be one of the top players, if not the top player at his role on the market. I don't think a 2nd round pick is much of a stretch for him. If we don't get a pick, we should at least get a center prospect with some size. Packaged with Gill to the right team, the return should be pretty good, a first round pick or a top prospect.
  13. At this point Fleury is better than Price, but not by much. That being said when Fleury was Price's age, his career as a #1 goalie was on the fence. He was still being bounced from the AHL and NHL. Apparently it was a vision problem and his choice of pad color was affecting his vision of the puck, but who knew, right?
  14. One big hole in you plan, assuming the Pens weren't going to re-sign him (which they will), and trade away his negotiating rights. They will not trade him to an Eastern conference team. Never going to happen. They will not willingly let a team that could directly affect their season record and playoffs run until the finals, sign Crosby. It would be possible if he gets traded and doesn't sign with that team, but they will not trade his rights to an Eastern Conference team. It;s really that simple.
  15. Both of you are describing a part of a bigger problem. Commandant is almost right on the money. The areas where you need to work hard to win battles that turn into production are on the boards and in front of the net. The problem is the only 2 on the team that will battle in these areas are the 2 smallest on the team. I remember when Pleks was a force on the boards, was a strong part of his game. The rest of the forwards need to battle as hard as Desharnais and Gionta does. Those big bodys in front of the net need to battle more. Cole is doing a great job of going to the front of the net, but not so much when it comes to actually battling in front of the net.
  16. Actually alot of people saw Martin getting canned and alot of people saw Cammalleri getting traded. The only thing nobody saw coming was Pearn fired adn the timing of the Cammalleri trade. So 2/3 of the things you didn't see coming most of us already did.
  17. Eklund, but from what's already happened so far this season and reports around the dealings and coaching changes, is it really all that far fetched?
  18. Reports saying Gauthier is being told to aquire a top line forward and that nobody on the roster is off limits. Sounds like the owner is directly stepping in on GM actions. This is going to work, going to make the team better, right? Worked in Toronto for about 20 years before Burke. /sarcasm I think we're in for a darker age with the Habs.
  19. Why is everybody hating on AK? I'd be playing like him too if my coach was treating me like Martin treated him. AK is a 20-30 goal scorer, 30 being on a great year, 20 being on an off year. You look at any team in the NHL and they have a player of AK's offense on the 1st-2nd line. Where did Martin pop AK? 3rd and 4th, then criticize his lack of production. AK will sign for a decent amount with Montreal. I'm guessing in the 3-4m range. He's worth it. The bottom line is AK is putting up 20 goal seasons on the 3rd line. Only a handful of players can do that. The problem is everyone expecting first line production from a player getting 3rd line minutes. We, as habs fans, know what he's capable of doing, so instead of throwing him under the bus, why not point the firgers at the people cutting his ice time for Gionta and Gomez? Almost a year since Gomez scored his last goal and a shootout oppertunity, had 2 less minutes of ice-time than AK, who put up 2 friggin points. This is what AK needs, a new start in montreal, sign him for next season, under a new coach and watch what he can do.
  20. In Burke's defense, he gave away the picks for those players at the beginning of the year. I doubt he had any intention for them to be a top 10 pick. In retrospect he probably would have forgone Kessel if he knew it was for Seguin and Hamilton. I think Burke's strongest asset in Toronto is his faith in Wilson. He's backed Wilson since day 1 and never backed down. Sure it looked bleak for WIlsone a few times but I bet Burke, and alot of Toronto fans, are happy he didn't just ditch his coach because of pressure. Thats what Montreal really needs. Management with a plan, let the media know the plan, hire coaching staff that will see the plan through think and thin. PG is too much about trying to please everyone without reguard of whats going on on the ice. Got rid of Cammalleri because of his comments, whether he'll admit it or not, reinforcing the trade saying it was becuase we need a player to score goals in the dirty areas. Didn't we sign Cole for that? Hasn't every person watching a Habs game in the last 3 years been saying that?
  21. Only way the Subban for Getzlaf could work is if it's Subban for Getzlaf and conditional pick. The pick would have to be 1st if Getzlaf doesn't re-sign, no pick if he does.
  22. I would hope this is to get the value of Subban and nothing more. He's RFA at the end of the season and might be trying to demand big bucks. With any luck this is to get a league value of him so it can be used in negotiations for potential arbitration. If this isn't what it is, someone needs to cut the legs from Gauthier and get him out fast, before he turns into a Rejean Houle. Now I need to go wash my hands, just typing that name makes me feel dirty.
  23. I think we have a few that could land a first. Pleks, Subban, Price, and Patches if they were to be traded for picks, would all land at least 1 first, probably some consideration picks and/or 2nd/3rd rounders. Giving up any player that is 25 or younger and is playing on top lines for anything less than a first pick value is unrealistic.
  24. He's still restricted at season's end so I wouldn't imagine he can demand that much. I'd expect a 2 year contract somewhere from 3m-4m per year. The reason for this would be so when his contract expires Gomez's contract will be expired, making the money available to give him a big, long-term deal. If I were the GM I'd forward this plan to Price's agent, which should help in the negotiations.
