2020-21 Laval General Discussion Thread
alfredoh2009 replied to dlbalr's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Last Rocket game, I had a feeling the Marlies were targeting players that may be called up: Ylonen, Belzile, etc. But shook that thought because I thought I was being paranoid Today I think I may be justified to be paranoid -

New players means new lines - What would you do?
alfredoh2009 replied to Prime Minister Koivu's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
I wasn’t taking about development but about getting to the lèvent he needs to be to help the team win : 2020 bubble mode I agree that playing Staal over KK seems ridiculous, ‘was trying to guess why -
the few Laval games I've watched, I've liked Weal's play. If rumours are true and he goes to the KHL, I am going to miss him. I think he was a good leader in Laval 5th straight game for Brook on RW, I did not notice him except when back checking or getting pucks on the boards.

playing 3rd pair minutes? I hope not, I would love to see Romanov-Weber play top 4 minutes. I hope the extra practice time and time to rest/heal will benefit Romanov who was coming undone in the last few games -

as long as it gets Kotkaniemi to the level he needs to be to be effective, I am fine with that. The first tow games being away games, I can see the Habs fielding a different line up than in Montreal. I am hopeful we will see one of Kotkaniemi or Caufield for game 3 and 4 -

I am hoping KK shows he _WANTS_ it more than Stall and earns his spot. being demoted to the sidelines needs a a strong reaction from him than a smile and a joke to dismiss it like he usually does in interviews Ducharme has mentioned repeatedly that they are working with KK on a daily basis, so I hope that down th estrech he comes back over Stall. I want to see him play as much as any -

It is the first practice, from what I've seen from Dom, he uses practices a different way that Julien did and is not affraid from changing them closer to game time My take is that he is lighting a fire under Kotkaniemi and Caufield to show they are better by raising their level of intensity. KK has been falling all over the ice in the last few games, seems off position and trying to reach for pucks away form him to the point of falling. Not moving his feet. He shows hes smarts on the PP but is not scoring. Caufield, at this point in his career he is a PP specialist that may come in later in the playoffs but not right from the start. With Galalgher, Tatar and Byron in the line up; there are only so many smallish players you can ring into the lineup. He can score but does get pushed over. He gets over matched when he body checks and cannot win board battles. It the Habs are using a dump and chase to create turnovers, he is not the player you need. -
... shhhh... don't tell PHI they played phantoms
-
I thought they won the tournament to make the playoffs and lost in the first round what channel were you watching chicken little ?
-
thar is the point , claiming this team is road kill because it may have done this and that or it should not have been in the playoffs is as unfair as me saying they are not as bad hypotheticals based on unrealistic claims are just that === the NHL record shows this team has made the playoffs two years in a row THAT is a fact
-
Didn’t they miss the playoffs two years ago by a point and had more wins that the las team to qualify in the west? that has to count for something like “if they were in the Wes they would have made the playoffs three years straight” right ?! Right?! my brain is going to explode from thinking so hard !!! baked potato

The semi-finals will be very interesting with teams that have not faced each other all season
-
Dom has made good decisions in the end-of-season stretch: * played Caufield, even in OT * Played Primeau and came back to him even after a bad loss * gradually diminished player's ice time and was not afraid to scratch veterans from the lineup I am also impressed that he didn't panic by forcing come veterans to sit and go on the IR, it is a medical decision but sometimes coaches put pressure on players to take on for the team and to soldier through pain. I am hopeful for the playoffs!
-
Lat time I checked NHL.com, the habs made the playoffs last year and this year. Habs are 100% two for two to make the playoffs, two years in a row. That is reason to celebrate, isn't it?

i had seen that ! Merril better at LD ! Glad I am not the only one

Hey, I can say this: "Potaeto, Potahto" 😁
-
The way they have stuck by Kotkaniemi this year, playing him all games despite not performing well. The way th et have stuck by Romanov, despite some games where he made costly mistakes The way they have stuck with Lehkonen and others... I do not think it is a cultural thing with the team it was a hockey decision on Mete and an indication of how bad the Senators D is. I like Mete, wish him a long NHL career, but I won’t over dramatize his comments

There is always room for a well worded quip from @Toronthab

Signing Rafaël Harvey-Pinard signs ELC
alfredoh2009 replied to Trizzak's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Agreed , happy for him -
Brook, Fleury, Ylonen, Poehling and probably Norlinder will be NHLers there is no paucity there
-
Yea Drouin, a good player to carry the puck in control into the O zone, a fast skater and a great passer he is a great 3rd line LW that can play in the PP and when hot can play up in the lineup
-
Seems like the 👻 boo crew 👻 is out in force criticizing the 4th place finish, the scoring drought of the prospects and the rookie lapses of the teams future top4 LD MB is not perfect, but I agree with @Commandant that he has done a decent job in his second rebuild/reset playoff success will be the best way to demonstrate if he deserves an extension
-
Watched half the game and liked Ylonen again. I am very happy that the Habs drafted him and that they are letting him develop under Joel Bouchard
-
that’s the theory behind last summer’s signings and the trade deadline additions; not comparable to top 4 cup contenders but evidence enough that is the gist Now, in practice the club has performed same as last year and hopes of going further this year seem like wishful thinking In short: yeah baby, we are on the chase for the cup!!!
