Trading two 2nds for Shaw in 2016, a 2nd and a 4th for Petry in 2015 and a second for Vanek in 2014 didn't help our chances Trading a 3rd and 4th to move up for Lernout in 2014 is not panning out . And let's not talk about Vejdemo That 3rd round in 2014 did screw up whatever MB/ TT had done well the first and second years

In MB's era some 2nd drafts were traded for Vanek, Petry and A.Shaw The other 2nds in the system are progressing well: Lehks, DLR, Ikhonen, etc I don't think short-term playoff tweaks have been more of an issue than drafting

If we do not get Dahlin on April 28th. I would trade our 1st, one of our 2nds, and DeLaRose for ROR. That would certainly fix our need at Center

Line-up in 2016 looked something like this: Pacioretty -Galcheynuk -Gallagher Eller -Plekanec -Carr Lessio -Desharnais -Andrighetto Byron -Danault -Mitchell Flynn/Brown Markov -Subban Emelin -Petry Beaulieu -Pateryn Barberio/Bartley/Gilbert Condon/(Price hurt) Lehkonen, Drouin, A. Shaw, and more mature DLR & Danault give us more depth now. Hudon, Scherbak have upside. Lindgren is an improvement over Condon (or at least equivalent). Juulsen, Mete, the new and improved Petry, even Rielly are an improvement over 2016...

I knew that about RFs vs UFAs, but I was hoping that the CH could offer 1 yr deals to some pending RFAs to avoid having to protect them. We will lose a core player in the next next expansion draft for sure. Even if it does not show yet, I think we are deeper than in 2016... I'll check this later to see if I remember correctly
