  1. Raptors TV play-by-play guy (& radio host) Chuck Schwerski (sp?) called it. He thought Greece might win this one. So - perhaps the loss isn't as much of a shocker as one might think.
  2. thanks for the link - enjoyed that.
  3. now THERE's a good idea btw - thumbs up to a countdown clock.
  4. Malkin? oh you mean Evg? (don't pronounce the 'g' - but he likes it there when written) ya - he's at my place - we're just chillin' watching "Quest for the Holy Grail" over and over and over - it seems to never really end!
  5. i expect my Leader to lead - my Government to govern. my chance to express my opinion was done and will be done at the polls. i agree with Canada sending troops into Afganistan. and if our government opted to pull out for legitimate reasons - i'd be supportive of that decision also. although there certainly are other causes in the world Canada could be sending troops to support - sometimes you have to go either where you feel you can be most effective, or where you feel there is the most urgent need, or you go where the world has their attention fixed on (kind of like everyone working together - as opposed to every little military country like Canada picking a tiny little task they can handle - when perhaps if all the little armies worked together - they could actually accomplish something of significance). nice thread A.C.
  6. i have friends who live in Siberia and have had a dispute with the Russian mafia - even to the extent where they were fighting them in the Supreme Court. basically - what you have over there is a strip-away of the communist regime, but a lot of the infrastruction (administration) continues to be run in the only form of government that they have ever known. so - where in N.A. a mayor has power - but limited - in Russia, a mayor is kind of like the King of the city (no exaggeration). so - if the mafia can buy off the mayor - then they can do what they want. the same applied to cases brought to court (of any level) - the mafia is fully capable of buying off judges in order to get a case to run a certain way. this means - to sum up - the Russian mafia (to my understanding) isn't as undercover as one may think. you don't need to crawl to the underbelly of society to link up with them. if it came to pass that Malkin was involved - it might not be much of a shock to ANYONE in Russia (some Russian mafia would say to be successful in life - one must belong to a Mafia - the question is only WHICH mafia to join, WHICH mafia is the biggest). if someone told me the Russian Mafia was involved in the struggle to come to a transfer agreement between Russia & the NHL - i would not be shocked in the least. or - if the mafia is upset that the agreement wasn't signed - that they found their own way to see that their 'friends' (Malkin???) could get to N.A. This actually doesn't make Malkin a 'bad guy' or indicate that he asssociates with a bad crowd - it's just remnants of the communist regime that are yet to be brought under proper civil authority.
  7. see - i think that's a real harsh statement for that or any church to make. i don't think i can judge to the point of EITHER condemning someone to hell or commending someone to heaven. so - i am opposed to that church's statement about the Jews going to hell (or heaven for that matter). but - i don't see how divergent views by a church (or a group) - suddenly lumps them with murderers. it may make them racist. it may make them prejudiced. but terrorists? i don't think so.
  8. i'm not so sure there was such a thing as a 'PR-consultant' when sports teams and leagues (like the NHL or MLB) were created and cities (or owners) started naming their teams. all that any PR company has done (please note that i dropped American from the topic) is expand on an idea that the public (please not that i'm not saying American public - since i believe the Canadian public is a happy participant in this phenomenon) already embraces and enjoys. LONG LIVE THE LOGO AND COOL TEAM NAMES!!!! Buffaslug still sucks.
  9. yeaaaaa - you let me into the league!!!! i promise i'll try not to be the league's doormat and save that honor for some jack.
  10. cool. i used to visit when i lived an hour (or so) south of Poughkeepsie. nice mall.
  11. except that every single weekend has a TO game! only time there is a game that TO doesn't play is Feb 4th and that is Sunday afternoon- Pit/MTL. but - the statement about more Habs games - that is always good news! BTW - are you really from Poughkeepsie?
  12. not as friendly as the cuddly, cute & loveable Boston Bruin! nice teddy - good teddy - aren't you soooo cuuuuute!!!!
  13. http://www.newblueandgold.com/full/ wouldn't you say THESE are better Buffalo unis?
  14. ya - actually - they had pics of just about every possibly team distroying the Buffaslug. some guy was making every variety he could think of! (he hates the Buffaslug) OOPS - correction, upon going back to look at more logos - it isn't a Buffalo site - it is a logo concepts site - and - they all hate the logo.
  15. thanks - found it on some Buffalo site - thought my friends in HW would appreciate it!
  16. I hear the logo is being dubbed the 'Buffa-slug'.
  17. i don't care one way or the other about the logo to me - it is no better or worse than much of what is out there. Buffalo is wayyy more of a football town than a hockey town - so the branding connection is obvious. you never win when you mess with a logo - only time will dictate whether or not this will be a good brand or not. what i don't understand - is that to my knowledge - there wasn't any huge uproar about Buffalo's shirts and logo - why the change - and - if change is so necessary, i think the best way to introduce that change is via the 3rd jersey - let the fans acquire a taste of the new color/symbol.

quite agree with you - i'm not in favor of ANY type of bashing - i thought i was throwing out a harmless joke - guess not! teasing and jabs are great - but - admittedly, it is easy to cross the line now and then. Let's have fun on the boards - but keep it clean boys! (myself included!)
  19. Curious as to who's everyone's 1st choice (top 3 really) for RB WR QB TE K & Def ... who cares! i'm in a few Yahoo leagues - i could use some advice. BTW - please don't let Fanpuck read this thread ... i need to kick his 'rear-end' this season!

who ... me :?- guess i hit a nerve ok - for the record ... i LOVE Calgary & Edmonton. as far as picturesque - there's no place on the planet i'd rather live than on the Alberta side of the Rocky Mountains. (sorry BC) also - for the record - i have a sister & her family who live in Calgary - they love it there. now - for what some may call humiliating - i will share - in the spirit of transparency ... not only do i own a cowboy hat - i WEAR a cowboy hat in the GTA during the winter ... sure, i get people looking strangely at me - but shucks, i juss luv that thang! sorry for any offense taken - none was intended. just like i'm a city-slicker and i tease my wife about being a *insert mid-western term of endearment here* - i figured we all knew each other enough to know that i was joking around. my apologies.
