Chris
I am still betting this will be the only team with every player in the minus. Is that possible? Perez will have to move with Koivu and ryder to make that happen.

Thats a good question because I dont think good a defensemen should be a minus at all, not even a minus 1 Edited March 4, 2007 by TheWhale
Strummerman
Mike Komisarek is a +4, are you telling me that Komi has been outstanding this year? This plus minus histrionics may be distorting the reality. For example Samsonov is a -1, anyone think he is having an outstanding year??? Perezhogin is a +10? Trizzak
The only thing you can get from the +/- ratings is that the team can't score 5 on 5.

The fact is, coach's put little stock in plus minus numbers when evaluating players... Coach's and manager's prefer to look at a lot more factors when evaluating players than whether a guy is a -5 or +5 when the season is done! That is a convenient stat that the media tends to over emphasize. Far too often they are misleading numbers - like you pointed out in this post. Thanks gros bill, but I think maybe someone like Perezhogin is underestimated to what he brings to the rink. Sinc he does not score much Perez should be evaluated using other things like +- . I think the scoring will come,

CerebusClone
Did enyone ever noticed that Mike Komisarek is currently tied with Sheldon Souray for the most points for a defenseman NOT on the popwerplay? Komisarek has 16 points this season, none of them coming from the powerplay since he never plays there while even Andrei Markov only has 14. Which leads me to what I've been saying since last year, that we should start giving Komisarek some powerplay time on the second unit. He does have some skills in that department, and we didn't draft him only because of his defense. Granted he played with Mike Cammalleri, he had quite a bit of success in the NCAA, and his 30 points in 56 AHL games as a rookie were just as good (or even better) as his older teammates' production that season, like M-A Bergeron, Ron Hainsey, Francois Beauchemin, and Francis Bouillon. Besides, since Carbonneau doesn't seem to belive in using a forth forward like Koivu or Kovalev (who both have had some success on the point), and I doubt Niinimaa is in our future plans, we have everything to gain from helping Komisarek become a more complete defenseman. Also, if we gave so much time to guys like Craig Rivet (loved the guy, very disappointed to see him gone, but he didn't belong on the PP) and Francis Bouillon, I'm sure we can spare a PP minute per game for K-Rex.
