beliveau1
Niedermayer Contemplating Retirement Not definite but is definitely considering retiring at this time - now that one is coming from out of left field? JoeLassister
Well deserved. A very nice carreer!
Tony
Well this has been speculated since the Ducks won the cup. Not much of a surprise but if he retires, I'm sure Burke already has a plan to re-tool his team. Although, Scott Niedermayer would be one of those players that fit inside the "irreplaceable" category.
Fanpuck33
Yeah, the Niedermayer retirement rumors have been all over the place since they won Cup. If I were him, I'd retire. He just won his fourth Cup and is still at the top of his game after winning the Conn Smythe. He can go out on top now. He's made his millions and can now spend time with his family. Plus, he won't have to put up with the grind of further seasons, something he will surely be thankful for as his kids grow up and he can still pass the puck around and throw the baseball around with them. BTH
And PTG said hockey players play into their 40s. He's 33. But there doesn't seem like has anything else to accomplish. He's the only player in history to win every single major and semi-major championship: Stanley Cup, Memorial Cup, World Junior goal, World Cup of Hockey gold, World Championship gold and Olympic gold. He won the Cup 4 times and also has 1 or 2 Norris trophies with 1 or 2 nominations. He now has a Conn Smythe trophy as well for playoff MVP. What else can he possibly do? He could save the world from another one of Dr.Doom's diabolical plans. Or he could beat up Chuck Norris and Jack Bauer AT THE SAME TIME! Tony
Or he could win a Calder Cup?
jetsniper
Or he could win a Calder Cup? Or the Spengler Cup Or whatever they play for in the ECHL. Come on Burkey, send Nieds to the ECHL.
simonus
i somehow doubt niedermayer retiring. I know he has made a lot of money already, but those 3 more years at 6-7 mil would come in handy 30 years from now.
JMMR
I agrre with Simonus he needs to come back or maybe he will leave for a year or two and make a comeback.
