Even if you assume the pitcher is an automatic out, Ross would still be on base for the leadoff hitter. I think you are looking at BA too much. If Ross can't play defense or call games, I guess it is reasonable. That would also assume we have a leadoff hitter who is worth a crap, haha. I think OBP is overrated for the 8 hitter since a good number of those walks are intentional, or at least semi-intentional. Last year when he was coming off his 20 homer season and hitting in the 6 and 7 spot more often, his OBP was below .300. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Win, and we remain in the thick of things with another 7 games (i think) against the Sox. Lose and we're 8 games back and the season would appear to be lost.
