I'm not saying he is a definitive top six player, but he's the kind of guy that coaches fall in love with and play high up on the roster. He's really Dale Weise's replacement, not Lars Eller's. Eller's replacement is Danault (according to Bergevin).

Not that I disagree but that's a steep price to pay for a Dale Weise replacement. A million and a half more on the cap hit and some draft picks, Weise could have been signed for free and for cheaper. I liked the acquisition of Shaw, but didn't like the costs associated with it. Also, I don't see anyone's projected lineup with Danault slotted in Eller's spot so I don't know what MB was smoking when he said that

Last I read he was looking for something like a one year, $3M deal. He doesn't want to make too much less than what he made last year.

I saw him last year. JAF, Just Another Forward. He had a big game versus Boston then did squat the rest of the way. No heart.
