Nothing To Do With Anything

That newfie guy who did the commercial for Alexander Keith's. He was arrested back in February for possesion of child pornography and Keith's pulled all of the ads he was in right away.

*wails*

I always dreamed of standing in a lake of beer! But not like this! NEVER like this!

Not to be snotty about it but he isn't a newfy, he's a Scot.

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted. I couldn't be bothered to change it though. :P

So...I got a 360 last night and got a HD seperate. Right out of the box, it's broken. It won't take power from the Ghostbuster-ish power supply box. So not even 24 hours after I got my first one, I'm on my second one. This one is working like a charm though.

Similar thing happened to me when I got my PSOne years ago. Played it for about an hour before the AV cable gave out.

The Nintendo Wii seems like the only system around that should really be tried before you buy it. I think some people are going to absolutely hate its innovative controller, while others will love it.

Wow, I just read that the Wii is backwards compatible all the way back to the original NES, that is awesome! Given PS3's insane price for the system and its games, it might be time for me to go back to Nintendo. My only worry is that EA Sports won't have NCAA Football for the Wii. They stopped releasing the series for GameCube after the 2005 game, so I'm worried EA has cut ties with Nintendo on that particular title.

No, that was just due to low sales. I'm sure NCAA will get another shot with Nintendo.

And I thought I mentioned the Virtual Console...

When are they going to put Canadian Universities on the NCAA games. Granted its licenced by the NCAA so I doubt they'd have nothing but NCAA teams on it but still I think that would be sweet. UBC versus McGill McGill versus York.

Probably about the same time they put CFL teams on Madden.

I've only followed the thread off and on. When I saw backwards compatible, I thought they meant it would actually be able to load NES, SNES, and N64 cartridges. I figured they came up with a way to stick the cartidges in a slot that fit to each size cartridge and be able to read them. Having to pay for them on the Virtual Console isn't nearly as cool. Still, at $250 and only $50 a game, it is for sure something I will have to look into. With the pricing of the Xbox360 and PS3, I thought I was done with new systems. Wii might just change that.

About NCAA Football: I certainly hope EA would make it for Wii. Actually, if EA made NCAA for PC, I probably would never have gotten a PS2 in the first place. It is pretty much the only game I play that isn't also available on PC. I guess Fifa isn't either.

I think their new-age controller will make or break the company. If it goes over well, they'll be fine. If it doesn't they could very well turn to producing only games.

Anyone who gets the PS3 is out of their mind.

I've got none of them and am not interested. I've got my computer games & that's great!

You shouldn't have to worry about paying for them on the Virtual Console. At most, they'll be 10-15 bucks.

As for the controller, it won't break them. They're too huge in Japan to ever actually lose money. Gamecube should've broken them because no one really bought it. They'll just go back to the drawing board if the Wii doesn't work out. Don't forget they're getting massive, massive revenue from the handheld market.

Yeah, but that defeats the purpose in my mind. I own probably 20-25 NES games (got rid of half my games a while back because they were wasting room). I'd rather hook up my NES than pay 5-10 bucks each to play them on the Wii. I just think it would have been cool if they'd have found a way to make it 100% backwards compatible. People who loves the NES, SNES, and N64 would be able to put all those systems into storage while being able to play all the games they already own.

Thats the point though, they don't expect you to buy them if you already have the NES and games. It's for people who sold that stuff many moons again and wish to play them again. Having cartidge spots for NES,SNES AND N64 would be stupid because thats the 3 different slots they'd need to put on. You can't make one slot compatible for all of them. It'd just make the system look tacky.

Hey, you never know. I don't think it's too out of the question that if they really wanted to, they could find a way to design a single slot that could accept all three types of cartridges. A row of pins wide enough for N64 games and long enough for NES games, something like that. I mean, technology is crazy. Whoever thought we'd be carrying around 2 gigs of memory on a keychain?

Thing is, they'd make no money making it so full compatible. The VC will force people to buy old games from them. If it could read all the old cartridges, people would only be buying games from used stores and eBay.

Read a review about Madden 07 for the Wii, and they were very impressed with how well it played. Golf, tennis, baseball, even hockey make a lot of sense with the nun-chuka controller, but football was one I thought might not work as well. I'd love to know how it works. Actual throwing motions with the remote maybe?

I don't know, what would you rather do? Go around to shops trying to find that one SNES game you don't have anymore or download it to your Wii's memory for 10 bucks at home. You have to have convenience in mind as well. When peope are faced with downloading something from the VC or buying something off Ebay where nothing is guaranteed, people would probably go for the VC 8-9 times out of 10.

I was wondering about football as well. Passing I can see, you just throw the controller forward but I don't undestand how the running game or defence would work. I'm just really looking forward to a golf game, I can force my dad to play it. I've known since the day it was shown I'd enjoy it and theres been little to no complaints thus far.

Although I guess I shouldn't say I'm looking forward to golf the most, I'd actually say I'm looking forward to Twilight Princess/Red Steel the most. I'll be pre-ordering both with the Wii sometime next month.

I guess I'm just cheap. I'd rather pay 2 bucks at a used stor than 10 online.

Passing is the only thing I can see using the remote for on football. I think everything else will be done using the nun-chuka attachment with the analog stick. I'm thinking the D-pad on the remote will work more like the right side of a PS2 or X-Box controller, where the buttons will speed burst, dive, etc.

I'll be looking forward to seeing Smash Bros: Brawl. So many possibilities for an already great series.

Good point, I keep forgetting about the nunchuk. And yeah, definitely looking forward to brawl. You just know the characters shown at E3 aren't the only ones being added (although having Snake there excites the hell out of me). With Melee, they showed four new guys but ended up having around 10 new secret guys. Althought I will never be 100% happy with the game until they add Charizard. Screw Pikachu and Pichu, add a man's Pokemon. :P

Ignoring the show, manga, cards and everything, Pokemon is a solid, solid RPG.

Just read that Nintendo is trying to get Sega to let them use Sonic the Hedgehog in the new Smash Bros.

Haha, I'm not surprised. After EGM's April Fool's Day prank in 02/03, theres been a huge uproar for Sonic. People still refuse to believe it's a prank. I know that Nintendo had an open poll on their Japanese site asking what characters they would like to see in Brawl and Sonic was near the top.
