  2. Haha, that seems significantly worse than the 2011-12 roster you (?) shared earlier. Although if you take a closer look… Hamrlik was a quality D-man, certainly a legit top-3 guy. Despite a lack of pedigree, Streit proved to be an excellent offensive defenceman who we stupidly threw away. Nothing wrong with that bottom pairing either. The real outlier is Komisarek, a #5 being used in a top-pairing role. Poor Markov, carrying that bag of shite on his back. FW unit is even more of a mess. Drunken Bum Kostitsyn on the 1st line, Higgins on the 2nd, Fats and Lapierre being bumped a line above where they should be, Other Drunken Bum S. Kostitsyn in a significant role. We basically had two fourth lines and whole lot depending on the mercurial moods of a certain Alexei Kovalev (who I loved, but who should never have been relied on to drive play on the nightly). What probably made this lineup seem better than it really was, was the youth involved. Guys like the Kostitsyns, Pleks, Higgins, Latendresse, Lapierre, and Komi were all young up-and-comers (Price too). Some, like Price, A. Kostitsyn, Higgins, and Fats, had good pedigree. They were the subject of much fan excitement. Much as our young guns are today. So as I think about it, this roster is really a cautionary tale. We should keep in mind that our reaction on this very board to this lineup was pretty similar our reaction to our current team: “we have loads of young talent, our window will open soon, just wait 2-3 years!” Hopefully this rebuild works out better than that one.
  3. How about this old roster? A.Kostitsyn-Plekanec-Kovalev Higgins-Koivu-Ryder Latendresse-Lapierre-S.Kostitsyn Bégin-Smolinski-Dandenault Chipchura, Kostopoulos Markov-Komisarek Hamrlik-Streit Bouillon-Gorges Brisebois, O’Byrne Price-Huet What a dog’s breakfast on defence 💩 Habs are certainly looking MUCH better on defence now.
  4. 1st game at home after road trip, i am not putting a lot of money on the Habs to win this one.
  5. 1-0 after 2 periods. Perreault scores his 8th of the season and stops a long drought. Barron continues to play well (as per play-by-play guy). IMHO he looks more at ease on the ice and is not forcing plays anymore. The Rocket is taking too many unnecessary penalties, but Dobes has been strong
  6. My GUESS is that with a trade involving an unconditional pick it would count against the Habs as the pick transferred when the trade was registered ... but if the Habs had the option of the Jets' 2024 or 2025 pick it might not as the pick might still "legally" be Winnipeg's until the Habs make the decision to use it and likely therefore it still belonged to Winnipeg at the time of the lottery.
  7. I'd have a hard time thinking they'd penalize a team who doesn't have their own draft pick further by counting it as one of the two improvements for the team who didn't have it. That's just rubbing it in. That said, I don't think I've seen the wording of the rule either so I suppose I can't be sure on that one.

  9. Sens up 4-0 in the 1st 10 minutes? WTF Like it. However they are weak defensively so not counting my chickens.
  10. They most certainly would take it but the odds of Winnipeg missing the playoffs are incredibly low. I was just dreaming a bit.
  11. Kapanen 2a 20:55 up 3-1 in series Engstrom/Eriksson 0pts but both sweep their series
  12. How does that work exactly because I haven't seen any particulars on that rule that specifies what happens when a pick is traded. Technically, it is the Jets pick but the Habs are in control of it. If the Jets pick wins the lottery wouldn't that mean it takes up 1 of the Jets 2 possible wins in 5 years?
  13. May not help them that the UQTR Patriotes have been a near perennial powerhouse for a quarter century.
  14. The only hope is that Carolina thinks Gallagher’s net presence can help them. It was a silly proposal based on rumours of Carolina considering buying KK out.
  15. It's a little dissapointing that the two lottery advancement slots are not limited to your own pick.
  16. Things aren't looking so good for ECHL Trois-Rivieres. At a minimum, it seems unlikely they'll be around next season. It's possible they might not even get through this season. https://www.prohockeyrumors.com/2024/03/echl-newfoundland-trois-rivieres-may-not-finish-season.html
  17. Caufield backchecking hard was great to see. 21:57 for Slafkovski, all the icetime cant hurt his development and confidence. https://www.habsworld.net/2024/03/10-thoughts-strong-defensive-effort-leads-to-win-in-colorado/
  18. It'd be nice but it'd also use one of the allowable two lottery advancement slots. Teams are only allowed to move up I think twice in a five-year period now; would Montreal want one of them to happen without moving into the top two? Considering the jump, I think they would but it's a factor to consider.
  19. And that likley at most ... he could get slower and be more injury prone from the wear & tear to which he has subjected his body over his career.
  20. I don't see why anyone would want Gallagher even at 50% retention. He will likely be for the rest of his contract what he is this year, a hard working, hard driving slow right winger who will give everything he has and score 8-12 goals a year, maybe 15 in a good year.
  21. I wouldn’t be averse to signing KK either, although where he would slot in the lineup is a good question. He’s likely not good enough to be a 3rd C (and we still have that the infinitely-forgettable Dvorak on the roster anyhow), so he’d really need to be used at W. I don’t know how, or whether, he has a track record in that role. It might be an intriguing experiment, though. My guess is he wouldn’t want to come back here anyhow. It would reek too much of admitting failure and he could probably do without all the attention.
  22. Perhaps not for the Habs, but why would Carolina want Gallagher.
  23. I find it hard to believe that Carolina would admit defeat and throw in the towel on KK since he is only 23 but they also have a lot of UFA's to sign (Teravainen, Guentzel, Pesce, Skjei) so who knows.
  24. From my perspective I view this as trading a useless Gallagher for a player that might not be as useless. I don’t like or dislike KK and perhaps he might be a decent third line winger. No risk involved
