  2. He doesn't have to make offers to everybody that plays center for him to be competent as a GM. Perhaps he doesn't like the way he plays the game, or doesn't think his production will translate into the NHL, he costs too much, or maybe he has his sights set on someone else....kind of what Engels said. If he didn't make a competitive offer it only makes sense that he has his reason why he didn't. The off season hasn't even started yet and he is being lynched for not making moves. Big acquisitions generally don't happen at the deadline and they certainly don't happen during the playoffs.

  3. Subban is an awesome player. This is not news. And as he has matured he has become more focused on playing a controlling, complete, masterful game. Even if Weber is, overall, as good as PK, the age difference makes the trade a win for the Preds (who seem to be doing just fine without Weber's superhuman 'leadership' - wait how can that be???). The trade was a pointless lateral move made to please a coach who should have been fired at the end of 2016 instead of a few months later, by a plodding GM who misidentified his team's central weakness. As Trump would say: SAD.

  4. Let's not forget the real issue. The issue isn't that he isn't convincing a Russian centre to come to Montreal. The issue is that he's entering year six in his tenure, has yet to fix the top six centre issue, and has allowed two coaches to mishandle the one top six centre they had on the roster. If he went hard after Ship it would at least sound like he's trying.

  5. I wouldn't spend a lot of money on Dadonov, but i don't think he's the same player at 28 that he was at 22 either. We've already seen the effect of maturity on one a Russian winger we signed last year. My issue is that it can't be a lot of money, cause almost all cap space this year needs to be prioritized to fixing the gaping hole at centre. Upgrades at wing are fine, but they aren't the biggest need. At the deadline I said get a winger cause we needed more goals and it became clear that once Minnesota made the Hanzel deal we werent getting a centre. But the offseason needs to be about centre. Assuming Radulov is back and Galchenyuk is not on the wing, we have. Pacioretty - Radulov Lehkonen - Gallagher Byron - Shaw Hudon as wingers With Scherbak in the system. Putting Chuck on the wing just adds even more Adding Dadonov gives more than enough depth at the wing, its an extra luxury to have, but its not a priority that a lot of capital should be spent on.

  6. After last year's 30 goal campaign all signs pointed to Galchenyuk having a big year as a full time #1 center. So in theory we already had our top center in place, no need to go get one. As for Plekanec, he had half of the production that he did the year before. No matter how old he is getting, we were easily expecting him to slot in at #2 or #3 and score more points. So that left Desharnais, Danault and maybe Shaw to fill in the 3rd line. That's not that bad at all, especially after signing Radulov and correctly identifying that Lehkonen would stay with the big club and contribute. With regards to "telling the coach" to put him at center, don't you think that's a recipe for disaster? The coach is paid to coach. It's ultimately his decision to configure the lines whichever way he thinks gives the team the best chance to win. The GM is paid to put together the roster, not where they play or how much they do. If you can think of a scenario where the GM told the coach how to coach and it worked out well for the team, I am all ears. I agree that the trade deadline was disappointing. However it is hard to get excited about some of the names that were dealt. Who was he supposed to get to play center? Martin Hanzel, Brian Boyle? Okay, he could maybe have got Vanek or Eaves but that doesn't solve the top center issue. Could he have overpaid with our future and landed Duchense? We don't know what the asking price was, and I'm certain that if we knew I highly doubt most would be on board with it. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. It's getting ridiculous around here. It's the same garbage we heard about Therrien for years, that he is a moron and incompetent. It's one thing to criticize a person on how they do their job but to say Marc Bergevin is incompetent is laughable. He's made mistakes just like any other GM but when you look at his body of work and where the team is at right now it doesn't justify the abuse. We're not having this conversation if Pacioretty or Galchenyuk scored a couple goals and the Habs squeaked out the win against the Rangers.

  7. I think you're being a little bit too reasonable and level headed. The off season hasn't even started yet and we want to throw a bunch of cap space at a guy that never played in the NHL before to hopefully be good enough to be a #2 center. I don't care if his numbers might be inflated by playing on a powerhouse team or not. It also doesn't matter if he wanted more money than Vegas offered him to offset taxes, or if he chose to play elsewhere for other reasons than money, we want him signed!

  8. I think you are getting a little ahead of yourself here. Maybe MB has other options he is currently considering and going after. We don't know, let's wait until the summer before we start burning the place down. I know it's open season on shitting on MB but let's be a little practical and wait for the end result.

  9. Seriously. 2 years, 9 million. We couldn't do better than that. Really Bergevin? Really? FOR #### SAKES.

  10. For sure. If he chose not to go to the habs because MB wasn't willing to pay that, then bad on his part.
