Habs have improved over the course of the game. No complaints overall from me. Dach is starting to find his game. He's still making bonehead plays, but his play when he gets touches he is improving. Overall ok road game. -

I don't disagree with you, but I do feel that he's starting to get his swagger back, and that's a good thing. -

Dach looked good with the puck in the neautral zone and o zone. Slaf looked bad with the puck everytime he had it. Tough game. Reckon they got goalied. Happens sometimes. -
2024-25 Montreal Canadiens discussion thread

I think this balance will be necessary for the Habs going forward. I keep seeing people say, " x player would not be a 3rd line centre on a good team" or " that's way too much money for a bottom 6 player". The difference is that Montreal doesn't have a single superstar on the team. I don't think that's a bad thing though. A deep team with quality throughout the lineup will need to be the formula for Montreal to succeed. That means the bottom 6 drive the bus sometimes. -

And that's after handling Barkov and Point. I read Brian Wilde's game article and he points out Suzuki's plus minus. On this dumpster fire defense before 3 weeks ago, its amazing how well he's done, goal diff wise. Quiet, unrecognized Bergeron clone? Not quite that level obviously, but his smarts goes largely unnoticed. -

Brian Wilde floated the idea of an external 2nd line centre with Dach as number 3 and Beck/Kapanen as number 4. -
Or trade one of them for an elite number 2 centre or elite top 4 defenseman.

Overall, that was a very well played game by the kids. Even in the first, I felt like they played well. 3-0 on the road against high end teams. Let's go! -
Ya. Thats the issue. It would have to be a perfect scenario. Very unlikely.

What if you retained on Matheson? Pre deadline, offer him to a playoff bound team that has quality RD. Maybe they want to get money off the books and stay competitive. I don't know a target. It's all hypothetical. But could Matheson at 3 mill land a top 4 RD?
-
I bloody well hope not. If the best player this year is a left defense, that's who I want them to pick. Pick the best player. Without exception. If they're equal or close to it, And you aren't being internally biased by skewing the numbers towards position, that's the only time you should draft for position. As I said before, I wonder what caliber RD Mitchkov could land tge team in a trade.

Or, he is being encouraged to reign it in and work on his play away from the puck. Hopefully he isn't hurt. -

Ya. He was holding the puck and getting stopped regularly. Not his best game. -

Matheson made a perfect play on that goal. -
I think the reason that home was white, was that road sweaters would get dirty/bloody and logistics for laundering was harder. White road sweaters would show dirt and blood way easier. I believe I read that.

Primeau is going on waivers tomorrow.

Whatever pick this team gets at the draft, I just want one thing. Draft the best player available. I don't care how many of one position the team has. Galchenyuk instead of Forseburg. KK instead of Hughes or Tcachuk. Yet to play out is Reinbacher instead of Mitchkov. Everytime this team drafts for position with early picks, it goes wrong. Draft BPA and sort out the roster when the players are actually in the lineup. If you have to make a hockey trade later that's OK. I wonder what kind of known right handed defenseman Mitchkov could get us right now? Reinbacher may end up being elite, so maybe that's not really fair, but the philosophy should always be BPA.

The right side isn't doing him any favors. A couple of those goals against were just great plays too. The marchenko goal in particular. But he hasn't looked great overall. You're right. -
