  1. Vigneault, I would believe the fact he has had very good teams and yet could not get them to win the big prize may be held against him. I know in some sports it is not good enough that you get close you have to win. Not saying he should not be considered but just wondering if the people making the choice would look at the results in Vancouver and hold that against him, maybe, maybe not. I for one like new faces and with that i mind, Hartley, Crawford, Therrien would not be my first choices. The child in me says I would like to see the passion of Roy behind the bench, I am just glad I am not the one who is making the decision. I just want Montreal to be a winner again.
  2. Maybe the 5 years is what was the final deal maker for Bergervin, if he is to take on the heat in Montreal and there will be heat, he made sure he was well compensated. Then again we have not seen the real contract.
  3. I pray the new GM for Montreal is a person who has been in a strong and active position of management and player development with a successful team. Pierre McGuire has been a good TV Analyst. If he was that good of a hockey man I certainly believe another team would have picked him up by now. I do not think Montreal can afford to take a chance with this hire. Hiring McGuire is too much of a gamble he could be, emphasis on could be successful.
  4. Could the revelation that Grigorenko has Mono help explain his poor performance of the past month? Would that factor play into the final selection process of a team pickling high in the draft or has he really been tagged as a bit lazy for good? I do not know who Montreal will pick but I do find interesting all the information being provided by the people on this forum. I plan on being surprised.
  5. I believe that Roy could have the temperament/constitution to stand up to the Media in Montreal, that in itself is needed to shield the players from the media. That said, I wonder how long it would take Roy to tell the media to take a hike with their stupid questions? I can see Roy saying to a journalist, do you have any more stupid questions? Then the fun starts...
  6. If you let Timmins(sp?) go, there will be 29 teams calling him before the door closes behind him. He has done a very good job and is well respected by hockey people around the league. No draft pick is ever guaranteed to be a success story. Once a pick is made the development begins.
  7. I would like to know more about Gally, he seems to be a really good player.
  8. Why in the world would anyone think McGuire should even be considered? He is a TV analyst and that in itself does not make him qualified to be a GM. For a comparison, the Detroit Lions of the NFL took an NFL analyst ( Millen I believe was the name) and made him the GM, the Lions are just now beginning to get themselves out the mess created. Viewing an analyst on TV and liking what he or she may say does not qualify them to actually do the job. There are many more qualified individuals being listed by the members on this board. Montreal can do much better and need to do much better. We shall see.
  9. Agree, but if he decides to change his mind I would like Montreal to go for him.
  10. I doubt if either Biron or Garon would accept playing only a few games behind Price and especially here in Montreal. Other then that, good idea and choices.
  11. This goes back to the original idea of this thread, has anyone given a thought about a possible assistant to join the new coach? I was thinking that maybe Hal Gil would comeback to Montreal as the assistant coach in charge of the defense. I know that is putting the cart in front of the horse but It is just a thought about Hal's future and I would like to see him in Montreal to work with the young defencemen coming up in the organization.
  12. I think Price will get the money of a top ranked goal tender, If Rinne received $7M then Price should be there with him although I do not usually like long term contracts for any player but my gut tells me Price would be worth the chance.
  13. I am not sure I would give up on Tinordi, we need big and mobile defensemen on the blue line and I believe he along with Beaulieu could become the cornerstones for our future defense.. I would however allow Leblanc to go not because he may not become a great player but we seem to have a number of offensive players built in the same mode. Weber, AK, and any player on the team except Price, Pax, and Plec I would offer in a trade. Maybe not enough but may start the discussion.
  14. Before we trade Weber we should remember Mark Striet. A player who could not play defense in Montreal, he goes to Long Island makes All star on defense and is named Captain of the team.
  15. Trotter has not really had much of a chance to make it with big club. I have confidence he will make it in the NHL even if not with the Canadiens.
  16. I have a question, is there a reason Montreal seems to hesitate to signing players to long term contracts? Maybe it is just me but players like Georges seem to be worth the risk and it could mean savings in the long run to sign such a player to a few years.
  17. My two cents worth, when evaluating value can we look at Tim Thomas with Boston, I believe he signed for 4 years = $20 Million dollars = $5 million per year. Can Price be compared to Thomas in value? Tim is older but not much more NHL experience because of many years in Europe and AHL before making it to Boston. Just for comparison to judge value.
  18. Agree Gomez is a likeable guy and the team mates like him. However, sometimes being a good guy just does not cut it. I also agree his contract is hard to handle for any team and I do not see Montreal putting him in the minors, it is simply not their style. We can hope he bounces back and had a great year.
  19. To ask is to answer the question.
  20. Who care what Michel Bergeron thinks or says. He lives in the past and he is a French version of Don Cherry, both living in their own past.
  21. I agree, his long term health is most important. If he misses this year but comes back completely healthy next year, his career will be the better for it. If he comes back too early and aggravates his back injury or his concussion he looses a career.
  22. I believe him, don't you think if there had been alcohol in his blood the news would have leaked out of the hospital?
  23. I find the French media to be more then a bit funny/sad. Lecavalier slashes Subban and the culprit is Subban. If some other player with a non French name had hit PK the Media would be all over that player for attacking a Montreal Player. See Chara hit, not the same but I think you see my point. Lecavalier is a hero in Montreal French Media.
  24. You can now close the page, NHL has rules no suspension and no fine. I saw the replay over and over again. I am a Montreal Fan but I cannot get inside Chara's head and say it was intentional. He is a big man and easily his elbows will be high. He should know where he is on the ice, however, in the heat of the game it is possible to forget where you are.
  25. I have not seen Desharnais play but have read the Montreal French papers and they are praising Desharnais. Tonight I caught the game off the internet and Desharnais did not look out of place, maybe, just maybe he is catching on. He is not big but seems to play a smart game.
