  1. Hard to beleive, the season hasnt even started yet and Kovy is already stiring the pot.
  2. For some people who are super tall like that the term growing pains is literal. I had several high school friends who were 6'6"+ who would literally feel themselves growing during the night. For them their bones felt like they were stretching and it was quite painfull for them. In Missiaens case I think what they are refering to is that his bones grew faster than soft tissue like tendons etc. His tendons would be under more pressure and stress (stretched farther) than other people his own age and it will take some time for his tendons to catch up with his bone structure. I think Melanson is over exagerating the problem when he said 6'4" though. I'm going to have to go check out a Petes game at some point this year. I will have to pay attention and try to see a game with him in it and it would be even better if it could be against the Bulls. I wouldnt mind seeing PK either if he is still with the Bulls.
  3. Sounds like a smart move to me. Apparently he has dual citezenship - Suis + Czech. There are several really good Czech goalies and players so there must be a fairly good development system in Czech Republic. Even if Mayer is down the list to be the #1 Czech goalie he will most likely be near the top of Suis list so either way he should be able to get international experience.
  4. I dont think they played any song tonight. I was listening to CJAD and didnt hear any music after any of the goals I heard. Unless all the fog horns drowned it right out, which I highly doubt. I still havent heard the song, I guess I will have to check out the youtube link untill I can hear it in action. Thx for the link lazy26.
  5. Yep, thats exactly who I am talking aboot. Yanic would be a wicked face off coach and seeing how the Habs draft only Centerman a Defenseman it would probably be a smart idea to get him before Pittsburg figures it out. The Penguins have 3 young centers who arent very good at faceoffs and we dont want them vastly improving that. I still say the year the Habs came from behind and beat Boston in 7 games was solely because of Perreault. Habs lost every game he missed and won every game he played in. Its hard to loose when you win every faceoff in your own end. They were able to ice the puck at will and would get the puck back after the faceoff every time. The new rule changes that now though. I highly disagree with him not being good enough though. IMO Yanic is one of the most underated players ever. Had he not been drafted by the Laffs and left to rot in the AHL for an eternity we would all know how good he is. He's in his late 30's and hasnt played that many NHL seasons and it really is a shame. The Habs primarily used him on the 3rd line defensive role and in a role like that players typically wont put of lots of points but its not because they arent capable its because its not their role to be offensive and take chances.
  6. Not sure how you say I am wrong though. Dino has cc in his name but it isnt a tch sound so I dont get how 1 c can make a tch sound from his name. 2 cc's can also make s sounds, thats true. The way we say Ciccarelli seems to make Pacioretty sound like pass but again there isnt 2 c's so I'm not sure if thats right. I seem to say it pack i or e tea Who knows though, I bet his own family doesnt know how its pronounced. Italian is a strange language. There are a lot of different Italian dialects and not all Italians can actually speak Italian to each other it can very so much from region to region. I still dont beleive it is Italian. I guess we need for an Italian to have a say on it. Without knowing his families country of origin it would be hard to figure out how to say it properly. If he is Czech its probably pronounced Beckorallash. You cant just go by what the anouncers say because they do butcher a lot of names. We all know its Plekanets not Plekanech. Same with Huet, I still think even Huet pronounces his own name wrong well unless he has British roots and they fracaphonized his name. You-Eh should be right, Hewitt definitely doesnt seem to go with how words ending in et are pronounced in French. I am interested to here how Pacioretty pronounces it.
  7. umm, I can easily think of at least 1 person who wont be willing to part with theirs. I was hoping there was a pic of the coin. I cant wait to see it and I am even more anxious to see the look on my hardcore Laffs faithfulls faces when I give them 1 as change. I sure the look on their faces will be worth a lot more than the dollar.
  8. Hmm, silly question but is it just me or are the announcers badly butchering the pronounciation of several of the young Habs names. i.e. Subban - is it really pronounced soo-bin and Pacioretty - I seriously doubt the Italian way they seem to be saying his name is correct because its not an Italian name afaik. For the tch sound in Italian you need double c`s and the ettie sound the t`s are always followed by an i at the end and its just 1 t not 2. All Italians last names end in vowels (a,e,i,o, and u), and not sometimes y. Y rarely counts as a vowel in English. I have no clue where they are getting Patchorettie from.
  9. I agree with you and AC. Chips seemed to have a very good hockey sense and rarely made a bad decision but on several occasions when he did make a bad decision it lead to goals which makes people even more critical of him. Habs fans seem to love jumping on players when they make 1 mistake even though they make lots of good plays. i.e. Cube, even Souray because of the 3 goals in which we have all seen the replays of thousands of times. Unfortunately Carbs doesnt really have the time to be a faceoff coach for Chips or any of the other young prospects, especially if they are in the AHL. However I can think of an ex habs who would and the Habs should sign him ASAP before Therien figures it out too. Honestly I still dont know why the Habs got rid of him because Bonk and Smoke werent much of an upgrade over him and cost more money. He is still unsigned and maybe Bob could convince him to hang up the skates and be a full time faceoff coach for the Habs organization at both the NHL and AHL level.
  10. Doh!! This is horrible news really. Temporarily in the short term it is good news for Flames, Oilers and Nucks fans but ultimately in the long trem will be really bad. One more year in which the Blues will get a high pick. The Blues will be a powerhouse for many years to come from this, they are already on their way to becomming the next Pittsburg.
  11. I finally managed to get TSN 2. Not sure why TSN 2 wasnt showing up at first but I finally managed to get it. w0w, I have never seen a break away pass split 2 defenseman like that before on Alfredssons goal. Thats was absolutely brutal. Both Habs D were right there but didnt even attempt to intercept the pass and both just watched it go by them to Alfredsson who was already far behind them. Some of the young players defenitely look good but it was just a matter of time before the Habs luck ran out. The Sens are outplaying them and the score is finally showing it. However the game isnt over yet and it will be interesting to see the resolve of the young Habs team tonight.
  12. wtf, what chan is this game on and what bloody time did it start and why did every place i looked say it started at 7:30. If I get to see even 1 pre season game I will be amazed
  13. No doubt you had a great time JoeLassister. I imagine it would be pretty hard not to watching the Habs spank the Sens like that. Who and why did Subban fight and how did he do.
  14. No kidding. From what I have heard so far is that it almost sounds like PK Subban might have a shot at making the team. Somebody made a comment that Subbans only mistake so far was buying 2 tickets for his parents to tonights game. Players are given 2 tickets. The Sens analysts on the Ottawa sports radio were saying that Habs will be 1st in the Div and most likely 1st in the East again. The Sens vets clearly couldnt keep up with the Habs prospects tonight. Hopefully we actually get to see more of the same Saturday night.
  15. I only tuned in with aboot 8 mins to go in the 3rd. It definitely sounded like the Sens were putting on the pressure in the final minute and a half. The Team 1200 just said the Sens highlight of the game: Neils 1-2 punch in the fight against Henry. They said there was no real Sens highlights in that game so thats the best they could come up with.
  16. I think everybody is over reacting a tad bit. The article says he broke his foot in May and it typically takes 2 months to heal. Wellwood has only had 6 weeks in which he could train (possibly less if he broke it in late May). Sure you wouldnt want a guy with a gut on your hockey team but he really only has a ponch. Everybody seems to be making moutains out of mole hills. I have no doubt Wellwood will have a good year as long as the Nucks play him. Dont forget the Laffs waived him Eh. Ya, the same team that signed McCabe to a billion $ NTC. When do the Laffs ever do anything smart. Wellwood didnt fit into their tanking for Tavares plans.
  17. 5-0, not too shabby! Was Halak in net the entire game
  18. wth, that sux0rs. I tuned into CJAD earlier but it wasnt on. I guess they started it a bit late or something because I tried it at 7:35. In the mean time I managed to find it on the Ottawa sports radio Team 1200 on ExpressVu sat radio. Still pissed that hardly any of these pre season games are televised. Whats gunna piss me off even more is at 11 when they show highlights of the game nobody televised but were there recording it anyways. :puke:
  19. The term finish your check used to refer to a body check which was actually to the body and apparently now it means finish the concussion with direct shot to the head. I watched a lot of Vintage Hockey over the summer and the only logical conclusion I can come to is Messier ruined hockey because he was regularly doing hits like that in the mid 80's with the Oilers. It really needs to stop. The main reason why their wont be another Gretzky is because they all get maimed before they even make it to Junior.
  20. The majority of centre Ice games are from US feeds. If there isnt a US feed then its the RDS feed. Sometimes it can be a mixture of both. During some games last year there would be a US feed with Cdn play by play but that only happened when they were having technical difficulties with video feeds they just switch to another video feed. centre Ice pretty much covers every single NHL game.
  21. I am 99.9% sure that would actually work but I dont think this is the place to discuss it.
  22. Personally I think the main difference between the Wings and the Habs is this: If JP Dumont had wanted to play in Detroit, he would be a Wing right now. Seriously though that is the difference. The Habs better win the Cup soon or they will turn into the next post-cap Senators and Sabres. The Wings are able to be perenial contenders because they have players who want to play there and are willing to take pay cuts so that the Wings can remain competative. The Ducks only won because Selane was only paid something like 2mil that year. If the Ducks had to pay Selane his real value of around 8 mil then they wouldnt have been able to afford either Pronger or Nedermeyer. It would have been impossible for the Ducks to fit all 3 under the cap with all 3 making their real value. The gap bewteen Detroit and the rest of the league is bigger than the salary cap generally allows because the Wings have several players who agree to make less that what they are worth on the open market.
  23. I completely agree. I sort of touched on that but didnt mention puck possesion specifically. Lang is defensive minded but still looks for offensive chances whenever possible. That is the huge difference over Smoke, Bonk, and even Yanic Perreault. None are defensive liabilities but only Lang seems to also be capable of being a quarterback setting up offensive plays and looking to go on the attackas long as his teamates are behind him. Yanic was generally a 20G guy but only got half of the assists (15) Lang typically gets 30+. This year Lats better get over 20+ goals if he plays with Lang. Lang has way more offensive hockey sense than Habs previous 3rd line Centers while not being a defensive liability. Lang doesnt tend to just dump the puck into the other teams end during a line change like Bonk and Smoke almost always did. Lang goes into the corner and maintains puck possesion long enough for the new fresh teammates to race into the play. Thats why I want to see Kovalevs line come out right after Langs so the 2 of them will have a slight overlap of ice time to try to relive any previous Pitts chemestry. Lang just seems to be 1 of those players who has a knack at being in the right place at the right time and takes the best action for that particular moment. On a lot of those plays in the YouTube clip it looks like Lang takes the wrong action, shooting instead of passing, a lot of those shots you wouldnt think had much a chance of going in, yet they are highlight clips of him scoring. On a lot of the goals the goalies must have though the shot would be harmless untill they turned around and noticed the red light was on. A lot of those goals look like flukes, but in the NHL you cant get 20+G year after year and be a fluke. Lang definitley has a deceptively strong shot that fools a lot of goalies at bad angles and through heavy traffic that somehow make it through.
