  1. *** NEW Update! The Saga continues. Garth, posts an open letter to all Isle's Fans... My philosophy as a manager is the same. Now, I don't want you to think I'm going to be a bully with the press or heckling fans. That's not my style and I accept it as part of the business. But I will make my feelings clear at all times: on or off the ice, don't take a cheap shot at our guys. I understand that I need to earn your confidence and respect over time. Over the next few weeks, I want to hear from Islander fans. I've asked the team to set up an email address where you can send questions and I'll answer as many as I can on the site. (Don't worry; my days are long enough to manage the team and address your questions). Comments are encouraged, too. Let's communicate and let's get behind the Orange and Blue. full article. http://www.newyorkislanders.com/a/gs_openletter.asp I"m not impressed.. his lack of experience is very evident; not sure this letter was appropriately written. Then again I"m not sure I could have written a letter to fans defending the owners decisions. The owner should have written this letter, not Garth. So I"ll give him credit for giving it a good effort.
  2. eak! those poor admirals players. oh!! ugly, your ugly, your mama says its ugly
  3. I vote for Kostisin as well; but that could change with injuries or slumps. Ribs' better have his A game. I see Chipper, Laps, and Cote as possible early call ups. Not sure if Grabs is restricted by the NHL-Russian league transfer agreement. I thought the latest on that issue was that they (the Russians) still did not sign it. Anyone know if Ryan O'byrne decided to head back to school? or to the AHL? If he does join the dogs I'd love to see him get a call up to the habs.
  4. Welcome soon2b25, Hope you enjoy the board and contribute. Can't wait for the season to start. Hope it starts SOON!
  5. That was a good read. Confirmed my thoughts exactly. Ryder made the right choice. The habs have loads of options and will get the best effort from Ryder this season. He was already tops in my book, with this deal he has earned my complete respect.
  6. Welcome Esteem, hope you find this forum a great place to get breaking news and great conversations. I've found this group to be very passionate if not extremely dedicated to keeping things as clean, honest and fun. What makes this forum great are the individuals who keep it alive and respectable. I give this site an A+ only wish I had joined sooner.
  7. I would vote for Jokinen's famous Penalty shot move. The move he repeated in shot out games. If anyone can find this on youtube I'd love to watch it again. Thanks in advance.
  8. Atta boy! I like this kid's attitude. I just hope this is not a sign of things to come. One too many hits, one to many dizzy spells, could spell trouble down the road.
  9. Excellant, I get to see him play with the knights for another season. My wife's family live in London Ontario and they catch every game. We drive down and caught a game or two during the season but many of the games are broadcast on local stations. cable and radio, i think they broadcast on the web too. He was exciting to watch last season; he should be absolutely brilliant this year as a leader on the team.
  10. A new logo will not fix the Sabres. (especially this one..) They have big issues with regular season attendance. Their marketing, blows! But we'll see how this season plays out. Good logo or bad they better put a competitive team on the ice.
  11. Have no fear, he will be back and in shape. He's a pro, a captain and excellant team player. He'll be ready to step up and contribute.
  12. Wow, what a crime, when the young get hit by things like this its always a very real feeling. Really hits home when its one of our own. Delisle be strong and know your extended habs family is thinking and praying for you and your loved ones. God Bless.
  13. Listen, Gainey is no rookie like myself, he will at all times be trying to improve our team. I'm convinced that will happen this year. He will take it up a notch for the habs! But right now is not the time. Between the end of week two during the preseason and the start of the regular season Oct 4th; would be the best time to pick up a great player when other teams are desperate to unload, to fall under the cap. Gainey has made very calculating decisions, not wasting time cash or our talent pool. He will make the right move or no move. In Bob we must trust. Having said that it would be wonderful if we are able to upgrade at Center.
  14. Jersey has a few more players to sign; apparently they can go like this over the cap by 10% until Oct 4th before the season starts.. so expect a move before then; I see Gomez and another getting the boot out of Jersey.
  15. My Guess is that Gomez or Briere will go to Edmonton. Come on Zod don't fail me now. make it happen.
  16. OK, but does that mean he could sign with florida and play with them this season if by some crazy chance the Eagle can't play the season.? (( i'm sure that wouldn't happen. ) but, I'm sure the habs have an exclusive contract clause that does not permit him to play any place but with their farm teams. So he would need to get permission before signing with a NHL contract during his seasons with the Dogs. help me out here I"m a bit confused with this...
  17. Oooh.. Danny Boy! the Wings the Wings are calling.... from rink to rink, the GM's, are very sad... Would have been nice to have him on board. Wonder how much they paid him?
  18. Mine is, I'd love to fly that puppy up the 401 and avoid that muck of a drive into work everyday! Any idea how much it will cost? I'm sure I'd have to save till the day I retire, then turn around and sell it at a loss. damn, I should just give up and buy that 6/49 ticket.
  19. Extremely interesting; it brings about some troubling questions. What does the team do? in cases like this, where they obviously want to keep the player but not at that price. How would other teams looking to add a player of his caliber react? Would a bidding war situation occur? if he is goes to an UFA situation. A bit troubling for players who want to be paid fairly by their organization, but don't want them to be in a situation of letting him go. One things for sure, all these questions will be tackled in the near future by Buffalo; can't wait to see the ending to this story.
  20. Well, if this trend continues; we could be heading for another market correction. ie. NHL and PA dispute over salaries; However, we have not seen a team ask for a player to be taken to arbitration yet. Now, I'd love to see the outcome of that senario. IMO, that would certainly keep the salary payouts respectable; so as to avoid a drop in pay after a crappy season. Do we have any that would fit that category? Who in your opinion would take a player to arbitration?
  21. I agree Desjardins wil probably play some backup to Danis (he's more than capable) and/or spend time in the ECHL (so that he gets the most ice time possible); depending on his performance. This is a perfect setup move for the future. End of next year we dish Aebi in a trade and bring up Danis as backup to Huet. Desjardins and Price will be our two in the AHL; mind you Halak could impress and be in the mix as well. I like this move; to me it speaks of a Gainey type move, making a certain trade in the future possible; Oh ya there is one more thought, Desjardins is an excellant backstop! He managed to stand on his head last year, on more than one occation (mem cup.). If you have a chance to add a good player at any point to increase depth; I'm all for it. I'd love to read any comments from someone from Quebec who actually saw Desjardins play with the Remparts.
  22. QUOTE(bbr93 @ Jul 25 2006, 05:17 PM) We have better prospects. Quite true, but this is my biggest fear. That we run into the same wall as we did last year. The team starts off playing well, then we lose a player to injury and then another... we call up some prospects.. now we suddenly have 3 may be four prospects playing for the habs. IMO, This is a very good possibility; so I agree with simonus.. there is no reason to tempt fate.
  23. Finally, I knew Keenan wanted him; Eddie will play a large number of games during the season, he is a competitor and will want to give it his all. I do wish him the best; His back will be an issue but only time will tell how much longer it will keep him playing. If he stays healthy and plays consistantly, florida will look like roses, getting Eddie for peanuts, plus a few bonuses. (I'm guessing...)
  24. BG says No to Briere! All done for now. I'd say we're done," Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey replied yesterday when asked whether there were any more moves on the horizon before the team opens training camp in mid-September. In the article he speaks of Sammy as a replacement / upgrade to Bulis and Johnson as a replacement for Sundstrom and Zednik (I'm sure this is also the room thats open for a prospect) He goes on further to speak well about Bonk and the Begin, Murray Chemistry from last year. Sounds like he's set and looking forward to the start of the season. full article. http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news...77-03362ecefc9d
  25. As a guy who has recovered from a back injury, I can tell you that its one of those injuries that can return. It does not take that much to re-injure. I hope he looks after it and continues to strenghen it and commits himself to returning 100%. He really can't afford to have a sub-par season. His pay check next year in 07/08 will depend on it.
