Galchenyuk has come back. The reason for Hanzal was to replace the void at center. We have done that most admirably sans Hanzal. I don't see the pressing need there was thought to be. Secondly, look for prices to drop, for secondary pieces, teams will want to get something for pieces of value they can not protect

Called Up: Nikita Scherbak and Sven Andrighetto

Wow-- I for some reason thought once you qualified as NHL player, you would always have to go through waivers. Me Bad. -

I am more worried when we start to get healthy. Nobody is getting through waivers these days. I think McCarron and Scherbak are the only two that are exempt from waivers.. Maybe Dlbair will comment. -
I don't remember who said what at the start of year, but I do remember that Danault was not highly regarded on this board. Some people never get an opportunity but the youth on this team is getting an opportunity and Danault for one is proving the naysayers wrong. Kudos to MB and staff.

Agreed. I recall Koivu among others, whose skills depreciated and they just let him walk. Get some value for Plekanec or be content with a reduced role.
-
You really don't know if he just has had nagging injuries all year or maybe he has lost a step. He has too much hockey acumen to not get good value for him. I don't have a problem with him getting a reduced role, much like a Stevie Y in his latter years. The waiver draft complicates this issue for me.

Recalled Habs Callups: McCarron and Barberio
BlueKross replied to Commandant's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
All the rest of these boys have been up at least once this year and maybe more. This would be McCarron's first look. Let's see how that goes. -
Yeah there is a couple, might add Danault, Hudon, McCarron, Redmond. I'm trying to put a positive spin on our loses. Don't count anybody out yet. Most players take a couple of years before they are bona fied NHL's.
-
Yup- impressive win Just maybe, with the injuries, some of these young guys will get substantial reps without being jerked around all over the line up. By the end of the year, our injuries may be a blessing in disguise.

I believe the question demands the answer to, "what do we do now?". Anybody coming from Russia ,at this point in time, would get snapped up on waivers. All you are doing, presuming the player had some value, is setting up another team for a score.

God, I have been saying that for years! To augment your argument of waste; would somebody tell this organization that some playoff time might make a hell of a difference to all these prodigies. We are on the cusp of not making the playoffs for another year. Keeping Sly aboard is inexcusable.

i expect it will be all hands on deck. Carr is a natural center as well.

Deja vous all over again? What's the answer boys?

Distraction Thread - Next Year's Starting Lineup
BlueKross replied to zumpano21's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Just for clarification-- Could they talk to him and have deal in place before a January resigning or they can't talk to him at all before January? -
I personally see some pretty good players becoming available rather than getting nothing for them in the waiver draft. Several sources have hinted that trading will become quite bullish as teams try to position themselves for the former. I would suggest that this will not be a normal year and there will be a lot more names on the list. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the league is rounded out to 32 teams, sooner than later. Just saying.

I agree, not after 20 games, I really meant if his current game continued. Right now this the guy we have been looking for, for I don't know how long -years. I would point out , what we don't want is to figure out that he is the real deal in June and he decides to walk into free agency. I don't wait to June to decide if we keep him or not.
-
His play would indicate that he should be in for a substantial raise and term.

I could see Streit getting moved and Montreal being a fit
-
i think we will find out soon enough about Davy. Will LV even take a shot at him? Don't see him getting protected and/or another contract from Montreal.

Moving the puck out of the zone has been a long standing issue. I am not a fan of how they move the puck on the rest of the ice. I see a lot of passing puck to players that are obviously covered or to areas where they have less than 50% of recovering. I am not sure that "the system" is effective in today's game.

Called Up: Daniel Carr and Joel Hanley

We have seen before how Therrien treats 21/22/23. We also seen what happens when you leave them on the bench for too long. Personally I would use an active 22 man bench, as it stands now, shifting players in and out on a daily basis. Players are going to need rest. However nobody can argue with the results so far, so it may take injuries to push the envelop.
