  1. Not a big fan of ECHl or Ahl new websites- we were able to get gamesheets and at least have an idea what is going on
  2. Fucale has to be odd man out. I have never been impressed with his consistency. Too many stinkers. Danis will not hurt us.
  3. Anyone know why Sly still has a job. We will be out of playoffs before Christmas!
  4. Agreed- he doesn't make it through. I think we have the best roster this year, probably since we won the cup. Our Achille's heel may be our size when the going gets tough. I don't put any of the three in my personnel small category. I am more concerned with the 5'8' and less, 180 and less. For me those players have to be elite, and we don't as yet have anything like that.
  5. 46-24-6-4 1st in Atlantic 2nd in league 277 goals
  6. This sounds like the Gomez debate all over again.
  7. No chance of advancement with Timmins firmly in place?
  8. I wouldn't worry about him coming to Hab's anytime soon, but the timing might be right for say Quebec City?
  9. I am not convinced that Don isn't an INSIDER keeping these threads on the straight and narrow, sort of speak.
  10. Is someone calling in a marker? That's happened before.
  11. Fair enough. Sometimes the rookie roster is facilitated by junior bodies just to have the numbers to make the camp work, much like you might bring in ten/eleven catchers for a MLB camp. We know NCAA players have trouble making this camp. I believe that some of the development camp try outs, out of junior, exit, not because of lack of skill, but that their schedules and/or plans won't allow them to take on another camp. .
  12. I wouldn't be surprised if Bobyk had it in the cards to return to Red Deer as an overager. His numbers look pretty good. I don't have any thing on Carozza, but the other three would have to show to be dam good because they have to return to junior if they didn't make main club. Normally we are looking for guys here that fill out this years rosters.
  13. I am not sure why this was done, but Weber not shabby at all.
  14. I believe the Habs take whichever defenseman falls to them. I agree about the mix. I don't like their current mix -- too many smalls and getting worse by the minute. I don't see anybody at nine showing up on the Canadien's roster any time soon. i guess if they miss out on the defenseman, i would lean toward Brown.
  15. You are the only one here that believes, size is still relevant, besides myself. The Pens won because they were strong on the puck . They are not huge, I agree. But they are definitely not small. What I am hearing here is that there are posters here that believe you can bring in a lot of smalls and be successful just on speed and skill. I haven't seen any evidence of such an animal.
  16. Not so fast. It is true that teams are taking on more and more smaller players. Burns looked pretty damn good. Stronger teams ended up in the end. Bigger teams ended up in the end. There not the same, but you can see they are connected. I am not sure your premise is bearing any fruit yet.
  17. It appears like you say. However the molding, post junior, to me is the biggest factor in their outcomes. We often assume that players turn out the same no matter what organization they go through. I believe that the first three years are critical. We are happy we got Galchenyuk, but we don't know how Grigorenko would have turned out in Montreal.
  18. There was an article the other day suggesting that there were as many as eight teams in Russian whatever league threatened with expulsion from the league if they didn't pay up players salaries. Seems to me that there has to be a glut of good players that we could get on the cheap, if they want to see a payday at all. That could go a long ways in solving our cap problem.
  19. I am referring to your statement regarding your apprehension of taking a defensemen in the top ten as opposed to a forward .
  20. i would be happy to take a defenseman at nine- not agreeing on your take on defenseman. All in all there is just too much value from 5-15 to give up three picks to get Mr.T. Contrary to what has been stated earlier, i believe it would be Montreal not Edmonton, who would hesitate on the deal proposed.
  21. Plekanec was horrible his first year and maybe a bit longer. Let Danault get settled for a year or two.
  22. Oh, the size issue again! You can argue one way or the other all day long. It doesn't matter a damn what we think. The only thing that rules is what the draft teams think. Traditionally they covet size. I don't see that changing in the short term.
  23. Yeah your right and so is CC. I used Edmonton just because they have been drafting consistently at the top of food chain, so what they are doing is obvious to all, at least in their early picks. Anyway, they might want to draft a couple of high end defenseman and possibly a goalie. You think? I expect they don't feel they can get the value back in a trade scenario. The question would be do you lose less value by picking the top candidate and try to orchestrate a trade or less value by taking maybe the second or third choice and filling the obvious need. I would argue if they had taken a top defenseman along the line, instead of all the forwards, they would be in a better place.
  24. Thanx Commandant- I made that case years ago. I would disagree or cast some doubt whether it is necessary a bad strategy at times. The Edmonton Oilers are a prime example of what can happen to a team that consistently takes BPA. Thankfully our beloved Montreal weave a mixed strategy..
