  1. He seems to have the physical attributes to play in the NHL:
  2. "I know what I need to work on, what type of player I am, I know my size and everything, I just need to make it work all together," Slafkovsky said in April. "In this League it's very specific, and I'm just trying to find a balance between all the things I can do. And the coaches are helping me to find the best version of myself so I can help the team win."
  3. but from a roster construction perspective: paying with cap money for NOT having Hoffman, Edmundson, Petry so that the Habs rookies and prospects have a chance to play in the NHL - that is worth every penny
  4. unless he earns a spot. I am tired of handing him the lineup spot without his earning it. I want him to become a great player for the Habs, and for this reason I prefer to have him in Laval to dominate North American hockey in that league I don't see how he can crack the top-6 on the revamped Habs lineup
  5. you are probably right. I am just glad that we can argue lineups back and forth having depth in all positions to disagree on: that is a good testament to how well the rebuild is going
  6. I was looking at it more from the overall roster construction perspective. The Habs now have depth on RD and goaltending, got rid of most of the boat anchor contracts and will have a lineup full of young players with decent talent. They have a shot at squeaking into the playoffs if their goaltenders are healthy and perform well. If only their powerplay could produce more consistently. If everyone is healthy: Monahan-Suzuki-Caufield Newhook-Dach-Anderson HarveyPinard-Dvorak-Gallagher Pezzetta-Evans-Armia Ylönen Matheson-Barron Guhle-Savard Xhekaj/Harris-Kovacevic Wideman or Lindstrom
  7. I think the trade to DET makes the point on how little value Petry has, and I am guessing that it would have gotten worse if he had played in MTL this season.
  8. solid trade for the Habs. I am happy. Lindstrom has been disappointing in DET. He was looking to play in Europe. He is a good replacement for Wideman as the 7th D and is a righty, which provides some depth if any of the RDs gets injured. He will get a chance to play in Montreal or Laval. https://detroithockeynow.com/2023/05/14/detroit-red-wings-review-gustav-lindstrom-future/
  9. the value of 35 year old Petry will not go up this year. Like al aging defensemen, his minutes need to be managed and he needs to be paired with a better defenseman than him to cover when he will get burned by the opposition. I like him on the Habs lineup as a #4, to help Guhle establish himself in the NHL. Petry can also help on the poser play, they way Wideman used to when he first got here. Let's temper our expectations
  10. all this love for the Bruins, 🤢 🤮 😠 puts me in a bad mood I can't wait for them to implode
  11. bottom of the barrel UFAs ? reclamation projects? "bounce-back year" candidates? Here is the list: https://www.nhl.com/news/free-agency-signings-2023/c-344949384
  12. I miss hockey, so I though of starting a thread on the upcoming pre-season. We are about one month away: https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/canadiens-prospects-to-participate-in-2023-prospects-challenge/c-345369576 https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/canadiens-release-2023-24-preseason-schedule/c-345344206
  13. Yes, second pair RD like he was when he was playing well for the Habs
  14. If Cap friendly is right, Petry is a better offensive option than any of the available UFA RDs. I say he is traded before the season starts:
  15. Do you think he may be an option to center the 4th line to start the season? since Dvorak is probably going to start on injury reserve
  16. BEWARE ==> something on this tread is tripping my antivirus: trojan detected <== BEWARE that being said, I am ecstatic and thrilled with this trade. got rid of Hoffman and Pitlick's NHL contract spot, got a NHL caliber RD (although in decline) and an NHL caliber goalie backup/dept... plus a draft pick Regardless to what happens next, this trade in itself is a win. I much rather be stuck with the bad Petry contract, who is a decent RD on a reduced role; than to be stuck with the ad Hoffman contract AND the extra NHL spot Pitlick was taking.
  17. yes, it was a fun read I liked that he put Barron on the top pair and I am pleasantly surprised that he omitted "3rd-pair Harris" from his lineup He sees more improvement this year from Slaf that I expected, I hope the hype and his take are right and that I am wrong: honestly
  18. I do not understand the recent hate on Gallagher. He seems to be trending in the same direction as Andrew Shaw, Byron, Weber, : a hardworking, selfless competitor, who puts his body on the line if it helps the team win. Anderson, Dach, Guhle seem to be the same type of player. Armia, Hoffman, are not.
