Who do the Habs take in the 2019 draft?
Commandant replied to Meller93's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Here is this years draft HQ https://lastwordonhockey.com/2019-NHL-Entry-Draft-Headquarters/ -
Yes 7 players had career years Domi is young enough it could be seen as a breakthrough. Maybe not 70, but can he do 65 again Gallagher is third in the NHL for xG at 5v5. Its his second straight 30 goal year. No reason he cant again Danault will depend on how much icetime he loses to KK Tatar probably drops a little That said The PP was god-awful and is unlikely to be that bad again KK should improve in his second year We may get more out of our backup goalie than Niemi gave Mete could score some goals What will Suzuki, Poehling, Brook, Juulsen, and any other young players bring to the team? in short stretches or long ones? Will Drouin do more? He's young enough to get better still. All of those would be improvements too. So no, I don't see this as the max of the team. I expect to be in the playoffs next year, with a couple of little tweeks (mainly LHD and the PP)

So if we win the lottery you wouldnt take Jack Hughes? BPA always -
I dont get into subjective things such as if a player "looks interested" or not. I look at what the production is and what should be expected for the cap hit. At the end of the day, it is about production, not the look on the player's face or what language he speaks. For all the complaints... he is one point behind his career high and his advanced stats show he produces more than he gives up. All of that is fine for a second liner
-
Two things on Drouin 1) the trade is a failure, giving up a top defensive prospect for a guy who ends up a second line winger, was a bad move. Even if Sergachev had a rough season at age 20. 2) Drouin at his current salary, for his current production, is not a liability. He's paid appropriately for a second line forward, so I think we have to live with that as we arent reversing the trade and you dont want to move him at depressed value
-
5.5 million for 52 points, what is to figure out? Nothing wrong with that, other than the expectations around him being too high. For 2nd line pay he gave 2nd line production. Yes, we can say we lost the trade... but we can't go back in time and change that, we just have to figure out what is best to do with Drouin going forward, and the fact is that he is not a liability. The things Habs need to figure out are - spend the unused cap space on a top-pair, puck moving LHD (Jake Gardiner would be my choice, but not sure he would come here as I think he is pissed by toronto media coverage and wants a little less pressure). - fix the power play.

Yes, but it also makes him ineligible for the AHL this season.

Cam York would be a solid pick in our range. Id love to get Bowen Byram but he should be long gone. -
Found last season's regular season averages at hockey db Montreal 1567 Calgary 460 Toronto 358 Worcester (formerly Boston) 83 Thats average attendance per game.
-
Where does that 283 number come from. It seems really low. I know they arent doing great but that seems crazy. Edit: Those numbers are from 2011-12. Seems the league grew quite a bit since then. I dont see regular season attendance but the clarkson cup final did just under 7000 fans.
-
Right now you put the best team on the ice Weal should stay centring the third line as he's just playing better than KK right now. Thompson is being trusted by Julien, especially in the faceoff circle. A couple of healthy scratches or playing wing on the fourth line is not going to harm KK's development. This is overreaction to the Galchenyuk situation. If he's spending an entire season on the wing, or is playing on the 4th line in his 4th and 5th year in the NHL, then we can talk about it. But its do or die right now, so yes, for 3-4 games the development of an 18 year old can take a backseat to ensuring you have the best lineup to win games.

Bettman has been clear that while the NWHL and CWHL were competitors, he didnt want the NHL getting in the middle of it but if the leagues merged he would consider a partnership. This could be the CWHL sacrificing themselves for the good of the game. There is already talk of the potential of some CWHL teams being absorbed into the NWHL going forward but obviously the logistics and legalties need to be worked out. When the dust settles and one league remains i think the nhl gets involved. We already see teams partnered like the sabres and the buffalo team... the devils, the habs, the flames... all these clubs were involved with the womens teams in their area.

Signing Ryan Poehling signs 3 year entry deal
Commandant replied to DON's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Hes not slated as anything for next season. He might be headed to play 1c and big minutes in laval -
I hope the Leafs take that one That said if the Leafs go 0-3 and we go 2-0 this week... then Saturday night becomes for third place and that spot. So tomorrow we should be cheering for the Isles to win in regulation.

I think if each game is critical for a playoff spot they wont put him in. But if we lose ground and get eliminated he plays against washington or toronto. -
He might get a trifecta on some other UDFA. Even if they are out on Schuldt, there are others they could be in on.

Exactly Remember too he's been non-stop since early August when he played exhibition games for the Finnish Junior team, then he played for his Finnish team, then he played the rookie tourney, NHL preseason and now over 70 NHL games. Its way more than he's used to And he hasn't played well in his last 10 games Kid has slowed down and there is nothing wrong with that, As far as learning to be a Champion, the kid is on his way. Taking the time to recuperate is not going to hurt his development. Most assumed he wouldn't even be in the NHL this year. He's ahead of schedule and has shown improvement at every step. This season exceeded all expectations, I don't think you can argue that
-
He hasn't been playing well lately. He isn't the same situation as Svechnikov who was in the CHL last year. He has now played more games this season than in any previous year of his career. By a lot. The kid is the youngest player in the NHL and is hitting the rookie wall. It happens to a ton of players. Sitting an exhausted player is not going to hamper his development, lets stop the over-reaction and silliness
-
The thing is weber is clearly hurting and not playing as well recently. In the same time we've seen Mete play some of his best hockey. So while i agree he gets a bump from weber (anyone would) i dont think hes chopped liver either.
