Of course we all want to see the habs at #1, but I think #2 is a bit optimistic still. I would be satisfied with the improvement if we ended the year as #8 or #9 in the NHL, hopefully with home ice in the 1st round of the playoffs and then lets see what happens. I just think it's too soon to be considered as one of the top 5 teams in the NHL ..... BUT, I sure would love to hang out in the top five all season! Makes it so much easier to live and be happy in the GTA that way!

BTW - don't worry about paying Dallas the 1st round pick & top player - after simply one trade with him you'll get more way more than that in return! Dallas is nice that way!!!

i'm sure it isn't to late to join - keep applying - the Commish works his tail off for this league, he's probably busy. He'll get back to you if your application is in order - but apply again - can't hurt! It'd be great to see all the teams taken! I'm only in for about a month and - I'm lovin' it! oops, McD reference - hmmm, I'm hungry - GTG

I happen to like Swarski - but you've got to keep him talking sports in general or basketball. Baseball or hockey specific questions and he goes into what he's paid to do - be a homer. He knows his Basketball - and he'll rip the Raptors, cuz he KNOWS the Raptors - he can't rip the other sports teams the same cuz he can only regergitate (sp?) what his colleagues said last hour. And - to keep my post on topic .... HEALY IS AN IDIOT!!!!! Pretentious passion - total NHLPAer and Maples Trumpet - I have no use for him whatsoever. [Edited on 2005/10/11 by revvvrob]

I really wish they'd scrap the OTL point - and even the whole point system altogether and simply go with W and L, more like baseball. You win - you're in the playoffs, you lose - you play golf. This shouldn't terribly disturb the history of the game - we remember the habs for their 8 loss season, not how many ties there were that year. Winning percentage is a much truer indication of a successful season.

I could see 12 and 5 happening, but 5 is sooooo much the past, i doubt it. And 12 is possible as the C of the great habs run in the late 70s - although he would be more of a sentimental choice than deserving. But i definitely disagree with 22 and 20 - no way Mahovlich gets in - not even close - and i'm still not sure why 22 is even in the Hall of Fame! Shutt was a very good player, but i wish the Hall only had the best, not the very good. I still say Dryden & Roy have a better chance than Shutt, Geoffrion & Cournoyer - heck even Savard & Gainey have more of a shot than Mahovlich! It's time to honor the teams of the 70s - it will be done. [Edited on 2005/10/3 by revvvrob]

Even if there were an all-star game - i really doubt the Habs would be THAT well represented (Kovalev, Souray, Theodore). It would certainly mean we got off to a great start this year!

I'm guessing 19, 29, 33 - and if 29 shouldn't be there, then I'd have to pick between 18, 23. would Bob do 23???

Subject: Custody Battle Ruling Date: Tue, 27 Sep 2005 19:05:48 -0400 A seven year old boy from Montreal was at the centre of a courtroom drama in an Quebec Superior Courthouse this morning when he challenged a court ruling over who should have legal custody of the juvenile. The boy has a history of being beaten repeatedly by both parents and the judge had previously awarded custody to the boy's aunt. The boy confirmed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and refused to live there. When the judge then suggested that he be placed with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they beat him more severely than anyone. The judge, in an unprecendented ruling, dramatically allowed the boy, in spite of his youth and obvious inexperience, to make his own choice as to who should have legal guardianship over him. In front of a packed and cheering courtroom this morning, custody was subsequently granted to the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS as the boy stated his firm belief that they are, in point of fact, not capable of beating anyone.

someone who knew nothing about hockey, only that i'm from Canada and was a hockey nut decided to go out and buy me a Team Canada hockey jersey (1998 Olympic version, i believe) - one of the expensive ones! I was thrilled upon opening the box, until i saw the name on the back of the jersey ... LINDROS!!!! ahhhhhhhh!!!! Needless to say, it hasn't been worn too often, maybe now that Lindros is with the Maples, I can get away with it now and then .. but still... LINDROS!!!! ahhhhhhhh!!!!

Youppi is part of the habs (pix included)
revvvrob replied to bebehabs's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Seriously - i still can't believe it's Youppi! I like the idea, but it's kind of risky - I mean - the Expos sank (or were sunk) and Montrealers didn't exactly rally around the team. Youppi!'s brand had to be tarnished as he is associated with bad memories for those who are glad the Expos are gone or bad memories for those who with the Expos never left. The only way this is a good move is that it saves money by not having to create a new character, and the hope and prayer that there are enough Expos fans from the 80s and early 90s to remember and cherish the good old days. I think it's risky - I probably wouldn't have done it or recommended it - but, I do like it! -
who really cares, lighten up. now we think millionaires aren't allowed to kid around?!? unless we were in the room and experienced the atmosphere there was in the room, there's no way we can judge an action like that. imagine if the room felt like he was with a bunch of pals at the bar or wherever, in a social environment - then it would be funny. sure he should have known better, sure he should remember that he needs to be on guard 24/7, but he didn't - i'm not holding this against him.

That last question got me - i said Chicago, not Florida - you should have seen me, my hands were shaking, my brow was sweating, i was so nervous as i was going for 10 for 10, but alas, i fell short! thanks for the quiz - enjoyed it!
-
Peter Puck - i just read that heartwarming story of a 6 year old who could see beyond the fleeting fancy of a Maples Stanley Cup win :puke: - but just think my friend - May 2, 1967 was the last day you were ever a loser, YOU'VE BEEN A WINNER EVER SINCE! So, congrats, and thanks for jumping on board and never jumping off! YOU, my friend, :/) are one of the reasons HABS RULE!!!! :ghg:

i'd go in this order Chicago - love the city Columbus - wife from Ohio Carolina - HWL!!! basically any team starting with a 'C' - but not Colorado - all i see when i see the Avs is the Nordiques - and cheering for them was worse than the Maples!
-
I have 3 Messier rookie cards - and you're right - I can't seem to get even close to beckett value for them.
-
36 - 1 great wife, 3 great kids by the way, alex, i grew up in Brossard - if i wasn't so old, i may know you! also, i can't believe how great this site it - you guys who run this thing do an ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE job - i wish i'd discovered this sooner!

I believe the Bank of Montreal headquarters moved to Toronto a number of years ago.

i agree, carbo, until theo shows me some consistancy, there's no way he should be near khabi money (khabi doesn't deserve khabi money!) - i just hate to lock up so much money in a player that shows flashes of superstardom, i want a full-time superstar for top dollar.
-
The espn link a couple posts earlier had Dandenault using number 11 - is that true?
-
i'm always a sucker for fantasy teams - sounds like a challenge to bring life to this sorry team through the waiver wire -- if you still need someone, let me know ... what's ONE more team!
-
i like it best when the song is unique to Montreal - it just feels wrong when another team uses the 'Na na na na Baby-Good-bye' song. whatever is chosen, they need to make sure it only used for the habs, by the habs, to CELEBRATE HABDOM!!!! BTW - thanks for the loreille link - i'm enjoying it (my co-workers ... no so much)

does anyone know what the penalty is for a team going over the cap?

another one down, many more to go! i'm glad we aren't overpaying. this is good and fair. i'm sure if he puts up another 65+ points this year he'll be eligible for the 3 million for 3 years type of deal.
