Well thats some extra salary cap room to play with.......

In order to save some cap money, a place has to be on the IR.

givent that we save the money on Higgins and Dandenault.

however we dont save on

Laraque

Price(lower body and flu) and koivu( leg). unfortunately we may save the money on Koivu as well. :wall:

apparently Chipchura tweaked his groin

Yep, I was there at the game. He pivoted to start skating backwards. Then all of a sudden held his groin, then skated off the ice into the locker room. He seemed to be in alot of pain when he skated off. :(

According to TSN Price is out 4 games with a " lower body injury" and Koivu will be out two weeks according to his MRI results. I really hope Kovalev, Latendresse and Pleckanec pick up their collective game or it will be a rough couple of weeks.

Incorrect. Regular IR means squat diddly in terms of saving cap space - it only comes into play in terms of the 23 man roster (of which the Habs are exceeding right now anyways as Denis was recalled on an emergency basis and not a regular callup.) It's only when a player is placed on LTIR that the potential to save cap space exists. The Habs have never done this in the past, despite having numerous opportunities. Even then, if someone were to be placed on LTIR, their salary still counts against the cap.

For players that the team has filed an LTIR exception, the team is allowed to exceed the cap by up to the amount of the injured player's salary with as many replacement players as needed, provided that when the injured player is activated the team comes into compliance with the cap immediately. The team does not get to automatically tack on the amount of the injured player's salary to the Upper Limit.

For the days a player sits on LTIR, his salary counts against the cap, but also towards an injury allowance. Replacement players' salaries count against the cap as well, but deplete the allowance (which is the amount potentially allowed to exceed the cap by at season's end.) When a player returns, any unused allowance is eliminated.

This really is a hard thing to explain, hopefully I haven't lost anyone too much...
