Peter Puck
I would like to hear Jetsniper's view. But as much activity as there is here tonight I bet the Avs boards are probably much busier and probably that's where Jetsniper is.
hankhab
I don't think you'll see Gainey sign another big name goaltender, either this summer or through trades tomorrow..I think he's happy with Huet and Danis for now, and I betcha we'll be seeing Bertuzzi or Joikenin coming this way tomorrow. Theo may well regain his form, but he might never have come around in Montreal, so I think he had to go.
GoHabs2002
Some of that cap space will be used to sign goalies. Abby is a restricted free agent (i'm sure he'll be looking for a raise) and Huey is an unrestricted free agent...nonetheless, it saves us money. brobin
Regardless, this was the same goaltending trying to carry us before the trade. Great team chemistry, when theo not in the dressing room, i'm not going to speculate, but we have 1 more amigo to go....and i wouldn't be surprised to see another major deal go down No it isn't. We had a guy who has proven he can play at a very high level if he turned it around. Now we have a guy we know will not reach those heights, even if he is a bit more consistent. The NHL is full of examples of top goaltenders sucking, then getting back to greatness. remember Belfour, he was finished, done, then played great for the leafs. Remember Roy. Remember Brodeur earlier this season. Now I am not sure if Theo would return to form or not, but it was a possibility (another example is Jagr, who we all knew could be awesome, but was inconsistent year to year). I don't think there is any evidence that Aeb is capable of being anything more the a decent goalie. As for your Amigo stuff, none of us knows what goes on in the room and that is just speculation. Still, if we use the 3 million in cap space wisely, it might be worth it. If we blow it on a Bonk V2.0, I think it was a mistake. Time will tell. gohabsgo252006
The thing is if you get Bertuzzi now, you're likely spending less than the 3M b/c you'll have to include more than just Zednik, so it's worth looking into, because with the Cap going up also, we may have another 6 M to spend.... Just my opinion, i hated the way Bertuzzi played at the Olympics but I still want him on this team.....
GoHabs2002
Even if we wait till the offseason, the likes of Chara and Redden will be UFA, along with OLI and Teemu among others THE CODE says the HABS have made an offer for Bertuzzi, unfortunately i'm not paying to find out who. What is this Code thing?? Is it another online rumor source?
JLP
I always thought the tandem goaltender system is best, keeps the pair in healthy competition, coach can switch to whoever is hot the other can rest and work on his game and wait. A Huet/Aebischer tandem works fine for me especially when we clear several million dollars of cap space. Stick-switching Théo can't play the puck, the breakout game is important in the new NHL with fast puck development, anyway Théo was probably screwed in Montréal the day he got his huge contract, remember there were no expectations on him the year he got the trophies, this year the pressure helped sink him. ...So, biggest problem now, we have to think of a nickname for David Aebischer. "Aebs"? "Bish"? ...yeesh

He is but he is fairly accurate he had the Roloson deal an hour before it was released an has done others in the past. The 3 million in cap space we save assumes we are spending $1.9 million for a goalie (Aebisher or someone else). I think Huet and Danis may be our goaltenders next year. I would be quite happy to see Aebisher traded in the next 18 hours. Not sure what we could get for him though. kaos
Do you watch hockey....or have any idea how bad theodore has been this year. I'm glad we got anything back for a guy with his salary that plays the way he does. He's no Roy, Gainey made his decision we have a 1A, 1B tandem now and cap space galore. OH yeah...I'd just like to claim my title as the guy who broke the news.... DO you watch hockey? Do you have any idea that a team sharing goaltending duties has never won a stanley cup? Have you watched the Montreal Canadiens? DO you have any idea that Theodore was and MVP and carried this team for years? Yeah he struggled this year, but a deal straight up for Aebischer is shit. GoHabs2002
I'm not sure this is true. The 3 million in cap space we save assumes we are spending $1.9 million for a goalie (Aebisher or someone else). I think Huet and Danis may be our goaltenders next year. I would be quite happy to see Aebisher traded in the next 18 hours. Not sure what we could get for him though. Peter Puck
We would still need to sign Huey...that will take at least 1m of our cap space (putting his salary to 1.5) Yeah but signing Huet at 1.5 million and dropping Aebisher (via trade or otherwise) frees another up 1.9 million. We put $1 million into Huet raise and maybe even a little to give Danis a raise (I'm unsure of his contract status) still leaves us more money left over. brobin
I can't believe people are placing all their bets on Huet. He played a few great games, but he has never proved himself a number 1 guy in the long haul. In fact, he looked like crap the last few games (he was tired, but still, a playoff run is worse). If we were getting Luongo I would have no worries, but if we are going into next season with Huet as our number one then I for one think we are taking a very big gamble. JLP
Well my Av Fan friends called Aeb the biggest barrier to winning the cup... Well maybe your friends were spoiled by years of Roy? This time, maybe both teams win, goalies can turn round when they get a fresh start. Done is done, but it may not be finished -- "Abby" (is that the best we can do?) may be out of here before what is it, 3:00 EST Thurs. We'll see but the team has changed dramatically so much for Gainey not making moves...

HABBER-oooooKNOWS
This isn't exactly a good move by Gainey. Remember that he signed Theo to this contract just this summer. Now he's freeing the cap space by shipping out the exorbitant contract he signed him to? Unless another deal is being done, one that requires the money Theo was taking up, this is a horse-shit deal. I hear what your saying, but I don't think Gainey new Theo was going to 'SUCK' so bad when he offered the money in the first place. Gainey just wiped the shit off his shoes and I say "GOOD FOR YOU" which means "GOOD FOR US" in Habsland. ABBY is a really good goalie. Definatly better then Theo.......I don't understand why no-one has mentioned that yet.
Ribeiro
NOOOOOOOOOOO! What bullshit!!! The Habs wouldn't even have made the playoffs twice in the past 3 years if it wasn't for Theodore! He was an All-star just last season! It's because of idiot, ######ing impatient fans. Vancouver is still waiting on Cloutier, and Montreal can't give a former MVP/2-time All-star a season!? What the f*ck is this!? Koivu is on and off the injured list, and you give up on the most reliable star this team has had in the past 5 years!?! This is absolute idiocy. Watch him win a Cup with the Avalance. Just my opinion, i hated the way Bertuzzi played at the Olympics but I still want him on this team..... Are you joking?! The guy can't even handle playoff pressure in Vancouver (where Canucks fans think they are "pressure cookers"). Just wait until he comes to a hockey-insane, 24 Stanley Cup winning city like Montreal. He'll be a shell of himself - which wasn't much to start off with. He's basically the Ron Artest of hockey without the College mathematics skill and ghetto childhood as an excuse for idiotic behavior. les_glorieux
there had better be something in the works. if there isn't. ######. how the hell did we not get more than just aebisher for theo. damnit. this will come back to bite us in the ass. brobin
Even when Theo was playing terrible, I don't recall any of us going... damn, if only we could get Aeb.... He is not a long term solution, but perhaps there is more to come this summer, as in Luongo....
