On the overall play, I agree. This team has played much better since November. There seems to be some defensive structure, which i was worried about. As you say, much of that is about Monty finding his game. On the goaltending issue, is it time to look for a backup outside the system? On putting Slaf back with the top line. Yes. Immediately. And leave him there. It was one bad blowout.

This is nice to hear. I dont watch much ncaa now. I did when hutson was playing. I've been a hutson fan boy since the day he was drafted.

I'm not comparing, but I am definitely tempering my excitement. I am very hopeful about fowler, but whenever I get too excited, I remember that Cayden Primeau had a fantastic career in college, and it brings me down. But as you say, goalies are weird. They are two different people. Heck, Primeau shows the tools of a good goalie now. I swear a lot of his issues are confidence. With our luck, we let him walk and he puts it all together, gets some confidence and turns into Tim Thomas. For now, there is some strong hope that the Habs have a starter or two in the prospect pool in Dobes and Fowler.

The percentage of players drafted in the later rounds, that actually become nhlers is very low. I think I remember seeing 5%. With all of their picks and prospects now, I wonder if the Habs could start running into issues with the 50 contract limit. Maybe a guy like dvorak plays out his final season and then walks as a ufa. Is a 3rd or or 4th round pick better than having 40 or so games of stability in the bottom 6 centre position?

Dostal has had some great saves though.

So galley said give them the puck to get your 6 on 4. If the goalie leaves, can a player come out and make it 7 on 5? Pretty crowded, but you get one free touch where they can't score on the empty net. Teams are much more likely to try for the empty net from their zone when killing penalties because there's no icing.

I replayed it. Anyways. I could see the rear ref thinking it. His knee was definitely out but he was stationary with wide stance prior to contact.

Not a chance. His feet were planted. He was stationary. No penalty.

2.5 to 3 million over 4 years with a rising cap is different than 6x6.5 with a cap freeze. It won't be a gallagher even if he is slightly overpaid.

2.5 (maybe 2.75 because of tax disadvantage) for 4 years seems like a good contract for all sides. I'm hopeful that he stays. Dvorak is as good as gone. The PK is one of the bright spots this year for this team. Everything was wrong with the team last year. This year, there is a great deal wrong, but the PK seems to be fixed. Evans and Armia are a massive part of that success. I really hope they can both sign reasonable contracts. I like Evans even when he isn't producing points. I can't see Beck or Kapanen stepping in and filling that slot seamlessly.

I thought a 2 game suspension was a bit over the top. Surely a scolding would have been sufficient.
