  1. I'd much rather have Lekky at 4.8M longterm than KK, even factoring in their age. Good thing KK is Carolina's sunk cost now.
  2. Gallagher is more urgent because the deal is so long and onerous. We can live with two more years of Hoffman (and he probably leaves at the deadline when he's UFA), but a broken down Gally at 5x6.5M is a ball and chain that we'd be lucky to unload on someone else.
  3. How many rookie defensemen will we have on the team next year... 3???
  4. 2024 2nd means that we won't even have to cheer for Lekky's team to lose in the playoffs this year. The 2021 Finals run is paying dividends this trade deadline.
  5. Wow, Lekky arguably got us more than Toffoli. Maybe extra years on the contract are really a deal-killer, even if they're decent value. Sad to see Lekky go, what a warrior! Just the type of player to add to the Avs' formidable forward group.
  6. 2nd rounder is decent value for Kulak. Now let's hope HuGort knows how to draft and develop.
  7. Seems like Francis got less for Giordano because he wanted to accommodate his desire to go to Toronto. Not happy about it, but the Leafs got a great deal. Hopefully it doesn't matter with their goaltending woes and the rest of the division loading up.
  8. Don't see how this makes any sense from Nashville's perspective. They give up their best forward right before the playoffs, and replace him with Hoffman? Lekky's probably going for future assets just like Toffoli and Chiarot did.
  9. I like getting FLA's 1st next year - they might not be top of the league again and the pick will be better.
  10. A decent return for Chiarot, about equal to what we got for Toffoli. I guess this goes to show that teams won't trade A-prospects for that level of player (2nd line F or 2nd pair D). Let's hope HuGort have a good eye for scouting with the Heineman and Smiley acquisitions. Two 1st rounders in each of the next two drafts - time to assemble a championship core!
  11. We can cherish the history by having the numbers in the rafters. Current players wearing these numbers does nothing to diminish this, in fact we might remember the past greats more often if their numbers were still in circulation (i.e. #11 being passed from Koivu to Gionta to Gallagher). As it is, most of the good numbers - the numbers that players would actually choose if they were available - are off limits.
  12. I think they should unretire all the numbers to allow Habs players to actually wear some of the good digits that have been off-limits for years or decades. Maybe keep #9 as the only forbidden number.
  13. I don't see what difference that would make to them. A few games off will only make him fresher for the stretch run.
  14. Final game for Chiarot? He's proved his value at this point. Shut him down!
  15. The hack Jack Todd wrote another piece calling for the Habs to let go of Mailloux for the sake of moral purity. At least the lingering negativity will probably mean that we'll have to take our time bringing him along and won't rush him.
  16. There's the possibility that Lekky has actually improved his shot and will be more productive going forward. Some players peak in their late 20's. He showed flashes at the beginning of his career but then had seasons of just seeming to be snakebitten in front of the net. I don't think this will be his last season of ~40 point production. I'd be sad to see him go, but if we have the chance to add high quality assets for the future it would certainly be a case of selling high. On the other hand, if we gave him 4x4M I wouldn't be too worried because I think he'd be worth the cap hit and would be the type of vet you want for the rebuild.
  17. Beauty of a snipe by Lekky! Each goal is worth another draft pick at the deadline!
  18. Pitlick almost got sent through the boards on that rush.
  19. Maybe we should do the same with Chiarot...
  20. Juolevi makes KK look like a solid top-5 pick.
