I am not holding my breath, but it would be nice to see him before any of the AHL wingers -
GDT Game #44 Habs vs Rangers 5:00 EST Sunday Jan 15 2023

If I remember correctly how TBL built their team, it didn't become elite until they got Vasilevskiy/Hedman/McDonagh. The Bishop years were good, but not excellent. I expect the Habs to become a good team but to fail short of a cup until they get elite G and elite top-pair D If Hugh-Gort doesn't get the Habs to that level, I will be mad I am lukewarm optimistic they will build the team to win a cup Let's hope for the best 🙏 -
I am sorry to bring politics into this thread, but if Russia is still at war with Ukraine, I do not want the Habs to draft a russian kid in the first round. but I am glad I do not have to make that choice. Let's hope the Habs have the highest picks possible in the top 10.

Belzile is playing really well as a center. Who would have thought ?! -
I agree, Xhekaj would be better for EDM than Edmundson, on the long run. But for a playoff run, Edmundson is a better fit
-
Good points, I agree specially on Slafkovsky: not a knock on the player but what seems as a missed opportunity to do what's best for him. https://www.habsworld.net/2023/01/year-to-date-management-and-coaching-review/

I forgot about Kane. Good point From what I read, (links in post from yesterday) Lavoie got hurt last season and is just coming back from injury this season which may complain lack of production. He has recently started playing well which makes him an interesting prospect like Dach was : IMHO

like NHL like AHL, whoopings galore ! -
the race for the bottom just got more probable

yes he did

I don’t know much about true EDM prospects besides what I read in them. if Broberg is untouchable, Bourgault or Savoie may also be out of reach for the Habs. Kostin is already in the NHL (I think). That leaves the inconsistent Lavoie. Habs shed salary, lose a defensive specialist but gain a decent prospect alike Dach, Anderson or Armia. Habs could then sign Monahan and solidify their center depth Just a thought

I still like my trade proposal of: Edmundson($3.5M/'24) & Evans($1.7M/'25) = $5.2M for Puljujarvi($3.0M/'23) & Ryan($1.25M/'23) & Raphael Lavoie(RW'19) = $4.25M (expiring contracts) instead of trading for Broberg who is an LD. Specially given these recent articles: https://oilersnation.com/news/the-edmonton-oilers-prospect-report-raphael-lavoie-and-the-tale-of-two-twenty-year-olds https://theathletic.com/4058503/2023/01/06/oilers-lavoie-bourgault-condors-scoring/

Saw this on tweeter, love it:

it was like seeing Tweety play hockey against Sylvester

I just hope Caufield doesn't get "taken out of a game" and injured. Habs have not played too many teams that do that, but watching him get trampled on yesterday made me gasp briefly 😬
-
I think you are right, makes me feel like a dumber dummy when I could not predict his picks in the expansion draft and that I thought I would have done better

GDT Game #42 - Nashville at Montreal 7pm est
alfredoh2009 replied to Prime Minister Koivu's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Harris is improving. He is smart, mobile and well positioned on the ice. I do not like that he looses board battles too often and seems to get pushed off the puck too often. He also has trouble clearing the front of the net. But he seems like an NHL D for years to come. Xhekaj was great. I heard from Montembeault that the players did not hear PKs speech before skating out but they felt the energy in the crowd after PK's speech. I doubt Xhekaj heard PK's speech but he seemed energized by the vibe: seems like the type of player that would notch it up in the playoffs Ylonen played well with Drouin. They both played better whan paired with Dach, Armia or Anderson than others. Ylonen's skating is so fast and smooth! I hope he finds consistency at the NHL level. -

Good summary, http://www.habsworld.net/2023/01/habs-leave-it-all-on-the-ice-in-win/ although I would have given a shout out to Drouin who continues to play better. But I am probably the only one that looks for positives from the most disappointing Habs every season -

Very fun game to watch glad no one got hurt Montembeault had a strong game. Solid in the third. The forwards played great. No complaints here despite affecting the chances of finishing bottom 5 -

Waiting to watch on PVR, to fast forward superfluous parts -
I regret having reached out to Commandant to come back to the forum when he was having a tantrum. He is a bully. Even on ignore, I cannot stand him I used to like reading his comments.
