Was an Innocent Pool Question. . .

Jets is a prophet.

That prophet said afterwards that he thought they'd make it in still when I was overly telling everyone they'd not make it. TSN's monkey could have predicted that.

He's actually wrong though. Luongo is NOT going to be watching the playoffs but attending to his new daughter's every need.

Btw Mils..... seeing as I have scared Jets away, I was wondering if you could tell me how Svats recovery is going? I'm guessing there's no chance he's going to be back at all for this year's playoffs?

Also, the fact the Avs-Wild series is not televised in Canada from the info given out so far, is absolute bullshit.

I just noticed this today that my beloved Avalanche are not being televised in Hockey Crazed Canada.

In the immortal words of Jonny Bower Commercials, I say "Whats up with that".

CBC/MLSE (Bed buddies) are too scared to show Sakic, Foppa and the consistant AVS in the playoffs for fear of Leaf fans actually seeing a winning franchise and wanting the same.

Svats is out. Torn ACL. He's on the shelf for at least 3 more months.

Don't say I never gave you anything:

TSN broadcast schedule, including COL vs. MIN: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=233725&hubname=

Figured on Svats. Sucks...

So TSN has added the Avs series... THANK ****ING GOD!!!!!!!! Thx Mils. ;)

They've added in the Detroit one as well. In the orignal release these two series were listed on nothing really so i was worried. I had hope TSN could still add it in. Now to hope the other games don't interfere much(if at all) with the games...

HOLY CRAP

I tuned in at the beginning of the third of Minny vs. Colorado - this is an unbelievable game. Wild come back from being down 2-0, end to end action, phenomenal goaltending, a handling the puck in the crease penalty shot that was saved. If you know someone that doesn't like hockey and you want to show them great hockey SHOW THEM THIS. Forget the Penguins...

AND JOE SAKIC GETS THE WINNER!

He moves ahead of Maurice Richard for all-time playoff OT goals. What a legend.

I was at a friends house tonight watching all the games and the Avs-Wild game was the game we were waiting for as he was cheering for the Wild and the Avs are my team of course. Was by far the most exciting game. Best part of all....

AVS WIN!!!!!!

By far, this was the most entertaining game of the night. Tight score, tight checking, great saves and many offensive plays. Wild can skate, have some gifted players and are not boring like New Jersey.

This was a typical Avalanche game in their constant forecheck and many opportunities to score. Lots of shooters on the Avs so the Wild have to play tight in frint of their net.

I hope Colorado can take the next game then these Leaf-lovin IDIOTS in Toronto media should stop disrespecting the Mighty AVS.

My friend who was cheering for the Wild was a Leafs fan.

Well it looks like the Nucks have pretty much done all but signed Fabian Brunnstrom. If this does become official and Brunner can step in right away and play, this could be a huge move for the so called offensively challenged Canucks.

Daniel - Henrik - Brunnstrom

How Swede could that be? ;)

Not guarenteed or anything that'll he turn out right away(or even at all) obviously but he's got skill and speed, that's for sure.

My Colorado Avalanche Offseason Plan:

Release:

Parker

Hlinka

Sauer

Liles

Brunette

Sign UFA's:

Dan Ellis(Checked and is apparently a UFA)

Wade Redden

Forsberg(4.5) - Sakic(4.5) - Hejduk(4)

Wolski(2.8) - Stastny(0.7) - Svatos(2.5)

Smyth(6.25) - Hensick(0.685) - Jones(.55)

McLeod(0.55) - Guite(.5) - Lappy(1.2)

McCormick(.475)

Foote(4) - Hannan(4.5)

Finger(1.5) - Redden(6)

Leopold(1.5) - Salei(3)

Cumiskey(.512)

Ellis(2.5)

Budaj(.7)

Total = 53.422

Cap Space = 2.878

That's if I did my calculations correctly.

Trade Arnason+Clark for picks. 2nd rounders for both would be ideal. Gives us 3 2nds to add to an already improving prospect pool. This would be somewhat realistic but even it is hard to gauge because we don't know what will happen. Nahville will possibly allow Ellis to walk since Rinne is their goalie of the future and I don't think Ellis will get that much but it's VERY possible he could. Hensick can step in and play with Jones and Smytty and this allows us to keep Richardson, Stewart, McCormick and company in the wings should injuries continue to hamper the team(*knock on wood*). Cumiskey and Boychuk on D.

Arnason would be tough to move but he's a really weird player. He has consistency issues but he did play with some flair in the Wings series and he might continue that path but to tell right now.. the situation is risky and we might as well allow Hensick to finally develop at the NHL level. By doing these moves, we can realistically add Redden and leave some cap space to possibly add a well known commodity to the backend at next year's trade deadline. However, I'd rather we kept our top prospects and picks than just throw them away.

Players who *could* surprise would be T.J. Galiardi and Nigel Williams who could possibly make some noise in training camp. Williams would be a really nice addition if he can show he can play right away and hold his own.

Coaching change might be needed. Q's a great coach in a lot of ways but he just can't seem to get the job done. Maybe find someone else who can and of course Pat Burns is a very interesting option. There are others but we'll see what Giguere does. If Q does stay, we've got to hope he makes the right decsions...

If my crazy trades go through, snag Tikhonov, Wahl and Staal in the 2nd round. Maybe a dman or two but the forwards are better value in the 2nd round. Maybe if we trade up, we can snag one of the coveted D prospects or Eberle.

I'm bored so I thought I'd finally give it a whirl with my new team.

So, basically, you just tinkered a tiny bit with my offseason plan that I sent you.

:D

Realistically speaking, you already nailed what the team needs. I just made it more realistic in a sense. As much as I would love Avery, there's not much room really. I really think Hensick needs to be given a spot but at the same time we do need a faceoff specialist. Yanic Perreault would be ideal like you previously mentioned. There are some interesting possibilities on D but at this point trying to grab Redden would be the best option most likely. Campbell would be a good fit but while he can QB a power play, he doesn't really have that shot we could use. Michal Rozsival would be another good option but who knows what he'll get. He didn't really play all that great in the playoffs mind you. An interesting scenrio would be if we could get rid of Anason and Clark and somehow nab two dmen like Stuart and Mara. Highly unlikely though.

With the way Ellis played int he playoffs, if we could somehow nab him, we could be in excellent shape in goal. Just have to pray we get him and he continues to play at that level.

Up front, we have the assets, especially should we retain Sakic and Foppa and remain healthy. *knock on wood* Having more offensive ability from the backend can only help our offensive guys off the rush etc. I'm particularly weary on Redden per se, though, he could just need a fresh start and on a team like Colorado, he could certainly flourish here.

I don't know really. We'll have to hope FG makes the right moves. If he doesn't do much, then I'm not really sure if I like our chances unless some of the kids really step it up. He's been hinting that there won't be much change but maybe that's some ploy to help his situation in negotiations.

Right now our offseason plans hinge on the decisions of Joe and Peter. FG basically said in that Q&A last week that if they both come back, he's going to try and put us in a position to be a contender (Hello Mr.Redden) but if they retire, then more changes will be made and we'll essentially rebuild. With the position the club is in though, it would probably just be a mini-rebuild, a lot of our youth is already contributing.

Dealing Clark as well is a mistake IMO. Yeah, he's a little guy and possibly overpaid but he has the same offensive game as Liles but is a much better defensive player. If you're going to deal a defenseman, it should be Leopold before Clark.

I was essentially moving Clark due to his "higher" salary level to make the scenario work financially. To be honest though, I didn't think Clark was that great because obviously, I haven't seen him as much. Anyways, should both retire, we'll have the room to make some interesting things happen so I'm not too worried. I'm confident FG won't sit on his hands.....

He's a great minutes eater. He's not a physical guy but he knows when and where he's supposed to be on the ice in the defensive zone and has a nice outlet pass. He can really contribute on the powerplay as well. He'll never be a top pairing guy but the new rules really opened it up for him to be a good top 4 guy.

I figured that's what he was like but I think I undervalued him a little in the end. I guess I overrate Leopold too.

Leopold frustrates the hell out of me (and thats not even bringing up his sudden injury problem). Obviously I've seen him play his entire NHL career but if you compare the way he played in Calgary to the way he plays in Colorado, it's not even close. He's not strong on the puck anymore, he rarely plays as physical anymore and even his offensive game is off.

Luckily, Tanguay has been a bit of a bust here as well so no one really won that trade. We still have a shot though, depending on Burki's development (although thats not looking good either)

His linemate occasional linemate Simek has displayed solid skills here for the Moose but overall, has had a piss poor year. Burki's still young and only if he continues this trend throughout next season should we be worried.

Yea, Leo's injury probs have always scared me and he wasn't all that impressive either during the playoffs. He had his moments of course. The thing with that is if we do in fact move Leopold, we're going to have to hope that Sakic and Foppa take paycuts if they do stay to add that piece that will put us over the top. As for Leopold, a team like Buffalo could very interested. Possibly package him and Arnason for Derek Roy. Yea, like that's ever going to happen....

I'm joking of course.

Thats funny, only because while I was watching the Worlds today I thought "I wish Derek Roy played for Colorado" atleast 10 times.

I still have Game 3 in my head when Leopold casually tried to come out of the zone with the puck and Datsyuk/Franzen basically shoved him right off with little effort. That led to their 2nd goal.

I was right pissed off about that for the rest of the night.

Yea. In NHL 08 with my Avs dynasty, that was the trade I made.... ^_^ I like Roy a lot and with his speed and style of game he'd fit in quite nicely... IMO anyways.

I wish the playoffs were over and UFA was starting tomorrow. :(

Stupid rumours that Demitra is touring around. Naslund JUST said now that he will NOT sign with a team that plays defense first. Said it was the system and not AV.... Could get interesting.
