I wanted Mark McNeill and was watching him slide, he was there for the pickins, but I guess if you have a guy that was a #5 at one point slide to #17 you gotta take him.

I watched this kid play in Mississauga at the Memorial Cup! He was born to play for our Les Canadiens! GO HABS GO!

I'm proud of this kid and am a FAN already!

He is going to be a big part of our future DNA...

Don't mind this first round choice at all...it would have been nice to pick up a power forward but it never hurts to stack the farm with new defensive blood.....who knows..maybe the Habs will find the next Zetterberg in the later rounds....ok...I should probably go to sleep now..my thinking is getting far too wishful

I see our division opponents stocking up big time. We have traded away too many picks and bring a pea shooter to a bear hunt. Nathan is a solid pick even though I would have preferred one of those big centers. Jacques Beaulieu, I believe now has the Sarnia STING gig. I hope this pick is an indication that our team is actually following a list that resembles Central Scouting's list. The Detroits and Phillys of the world have been successful by getting value for prospects missed during the draft.

I believe Montreal is number one in producing NHLers from their system. They may not be Playing for Montreal, but I have no complaints with draftIng. It's getting something for them later that Bob and Pierre haven't been stellar so far.

If they got points for putting the most prospects in the NHL, maybe they would have another Stanley Cup by now. I would say you are right about their record drafting with the assets they have, but they could have been in that much better position had they dealt with those assets better latter, as you have pointed out. Since we have not seen a sniff of the Stanley Cup since 93, I daresay the draft /asset management is suspect. I believe if you are not a player in the draft, it will subsequently factor into loses in the future. I have confidence in Mr.G because I think he is realizing that he has to adjust his thinking, past former regimes strategies, to be successful.

For those who participated in the HW 2011 Draft Pool, the winner was Mike (Halifax, NS). Mike correctly predicted the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 16th and 18th selections.

I didn't fare so well; I only got the 1st and the 30th, but at least I wasn't the worst HWer.

I really like the scouting report on him, I'm all for some more puck moving defense men, who like the physical aspect and are used to winning.

The downside of emotions affecting his decision making, that could correct with more maturity plus, whats wrong with a little passion.

Looks like they're hoping for some later-round gems.

Their pick makes sense given the depressing loss of Ryan MacDonough in return for Gomer Pyle (i.e., good young defenceman for a bag of pucks). As for drafting, all the evidence suggests that the Habs have done well in this area and poorly in the area of player development. But Gainey blew up the entire organization in this respect in 2009, so rather than thinking in terms of continuities, we should see that as Year Zero for player development.
