dlbalr
With the season starting today, it's time to bid adieu to the offseason thread. Based on the opening night rosters, the Habs aren't the smallest team in the league. Instead, Carolina and the Rangers share that honour. http://mirtle.blogspot.ca/2014/10/2014-15-nhl-teams-by-height-weight-and.html Any early predictions on what players/teams have big years? Lousy years?
Machine of Loving Grace
Now is a great year to pick the Sharks to win the Cup. They look so cursed. Joe Thornton looks out of odds with everyone. So much talent for a team everyone is expecting to just choke again. Gallagher and Desharnais are going to keep our height down while Price inflates it a bit. The tallest teams are an interesting bunch. Ottawa, Winnipeg, Arizona, Florida and then LA. Like phew. Strange company to be in.
JoeLassister
Big year : Galchenyuk, McKinnon, Ovy-Backstrom, Lundqvist, Price, Subban. Lousy year : Kessler, Ryan, Turris, Moulson, Doughty.
DON
Aves up on Bruins, but take 2nd too many men (or the Jacques Martin special) penalty.
dlbalr
That was nice of Briere to get the winner with 0.4 seconds left against Boston today. He's helping out the Habs even if he isn't on the team anymore.
DON
nice slow start for Bruins and Sabres should be auto-pilot wins this year for Habs and rest of league Sens and Leafs arnt that good neither good year to pile up some points early, if can somehow (unlikely is my guess) manage a win today, will be 4 or 5 ahead of Tampa also. dlbalr
Slava Voynov was suspended indefinitely by the NHL today after he was arrested on charges of domestic violence. This is a big change from last year when Semyon Varlamov was charged with the league making no comment or taking any action whatsoever. It's safe to say the recent events in the NFL have changed how leagues deal with incidents like this.
dlbalr
Columbus is concerned that Nathan Horton's career could be in jeopardy as a result of his lingering back issues. http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/content/blogs/puck-rakers/2014/10/horton-back-could-end-season-career.html
Jeff Price (no relation)
Useless fact: Corey Perry has 8 goals this season, after his hat trick against the Sabres last night. The entire Buffalo Sabres team has 9 goals this season. (So do the Florida Panthers.)
DON
I saw Chara left the Bruins game hurt and some Miller d-man also out hurt. Bruins would have a much different look with the big man gone. And wouldn't win a lot neither, and they lost again, to Isles. (might be an easy year in Division for Habs if Sens/Leafs/Sabres/Bruins/Panthers all suck)
Trizzak
Chara is out 4-6 weeks.
JMMR
Columbus is concerned that Nathan Horton's career could be in jeopardy as a result of his lingering back issues. http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/content/blogs/puck-rakers/2014/10/horton-back-could-end-season-career.html I've heard this rumour all summer. Boston got out when it was good, same thing the Canadiens did with Komisarek. Chara is out 4-6 weeks. I LOVE YOUR SIGNATURE LINE! Always fun to poke fun! dlbalr
Blue Jackets with NINE regulars injured. Too bad the Habs don't play them until January...I'm sure they'll all be back by then.
DON
That Goudreau simply deaked jockstrap off d-man last night and that kid is gonna score a lot with his smarts/skill/speed. Early Calder choice for sure.
dlbalr
Not exactly NHL-related (AHL) but close enough. Bridgeport goalie David Leggio plays this 2-on-0 in a particularly creative manner...
Machine of Loving Grace
Should have been an automatic goal.
Lovett's Magnatones
That should have been a delay of game penalty on top of the penalty shot.
JoeLassister
hahaha some Facebook comments suggesting a 2 players penalty shot.
DON
I say Kudos to the goalie who knows the rules well and a shootout is easier than 2 on 0. Quick thinking or not first time he has done it?
Machine of Loving Grace
We can stop calling the Pittsburgh Penguins a Stanley Cup contender as Marc-Andre Fleury re-signed for four years.
dlbalr
The AHL acted quick to amend the rules after Leggio's incident. If it happens again, the goalie gets tossed and the replacement goalie gets to face the penalty shot.
Machine of Loving Grace
The AHL acted quick to amend the rules after Leggio's incident. If it happens again, the goalie gets tossed and the replacement goalie gets to face the penalty shot. And the opposing team can choose whomever they want to shoot at the replacement goalie.
