I hope the draft team looks forward a year or 2 or longer to look at depth of available players and POSITIONS. 2023 was weighted more on forwards in the top tier of prospects. 2024 appears to be D top heavy. I hope Hughes and Company took that into account. Example: instead of Reinbacher in 2023. Pick one of the Forwards like Ryan Leonard. ( Yes I am know, Michkov ...) Etc .. ( would Reinbacher even be top 10 in 2024? ) In 2024, pick one of the Defense prospects. Of course this all changes if lottery win, lands them Celebrini. But hoping , this variable is taken into account, given at times the unpredictable nature of how prospects turn out But brings another factor to mitigate and selecting taking into account immediate future years. As in this case 2023/2024 as a whole. Surely they would have scouting reports on the 16/17 yr olds with the 17/18 year olds. 1 year out

That can happen, you can lose momentum after a layoff but the rest should start to pay off later in the series. I still want the Bruins to win against Florida (and then lose the next series) to improve the Winnipeg pick.

This looks good to me. Obviously some extra pieces that will need to be managed/traded, Kovacevic as mentioned might be a good 7th D. Engstrom is the dark horse here that may surprise. Perhaps Matheson's eventual replacement.

I think Kovacevic will stay: he’s willing to be 7D and fill in for injured players, doesn’t cost much (relatively speaking!), and avoids sitting prospects in the press box. And he would not bring much in trade anyway.

Looking at the team’s left in the playoffs they all are deep on D and have at least one stud. I think our D core is right there, we have a good mix we have strong physical type of D, we have two way D, we have playmaking D. if developed right it could be a strong type of core you need in the playoffs. I think this should be our D core Matheson is still on 30 so we could keep him part of this core for a few more years. Matheson / Guhle Hutson / Reinbacher Xhekaj / Mailloux Savard , Harris, Barron and Kovacevic could all be trade pieces in trades packages to bring in a top 6 forward to add to our group. but I think we could have a really strong Dcore once we fully develop them.

NOBODY is advocating giving him a Top 6 role ... most likely a 4C role with a chance to earn TOI ... it would obviously be predicated on moving Dvorak and/or Evans ... or starting him in the AHL ... and nobody is assuming/saying a 4C/AHL role would be an enticement to sign in Montreal. But if I read between the lines ... you wouldn't want KK in any role.

Kotkaniemi has disappointed in CAR, even if he is over 50% on faceoffs, he does not have top-6 numbers. Other UFAs like Anthony Duclair and Warren Foegele are UFAs this summer and would be cheaper. Reclamation projects like Jakub Vrana and Kasperi Kapanen may e better suited ift the plan is to have bottom-6 forwards that may find their game under MSL. I have more faith in any of these four and many other options way WAY over KK. Why give KK a chance when the Habs have better prospects and may draft a better player this year?

Maybe, but I think he realizes (and likely his agent too) that a fresh start in a new city is the best thing for his mental health and future.

It certainly depends on how deep you think the draft will be. Not suggesting they trade down to 14, just saying San Jose is in a very desirable position in this draft. It sucks for Pittsburgh as this is their pick. Here is a hypothetical trade down. Right now Calgary is at #9 and they really want Tij Iginla. They are concerned he might be gone at #9. They want to switch with Montreal who is at #5. Kent Hughes says sure. In return I want you to take any conditions off the 1st round pick next year (ie. They get Calgary's pick no matter where it lands). Do you make this trade if you are Montreal? You could win big next year or gain nothing. If Calgary is outside the top 10 then Montreal would likely have received that pick anyway. If Calgary is bottom 10 then yippee!! Do you make this trade if you are Calgary? You could lose big next year (if you are bottom 10) or lose nothing if outside the top 10.
