  1. Boy I can hear the pitch forks being sharpened from here.. I love how the Bergevin haters automatically assume this means HE is the designated replacement for Markov, he signed a 1 year 700k contract to come and play big minutes on the top pair and Quarterback the PP, what a failure of a signing, Bargain bin is sniffin the good stuff now....Get a god damn hold of yourselves, and stop breaking a sweat or even letting your temperature rise a degree over a freakin depth signing that means we have a veteran guy who can plug in some minutes on a 3rd pair and play some PP, and probably be in and out of the lineup like Boullion in his last hoorah. We still have 8 mill+ to fix some of the holes on this Roster, can we stop acting like a bunch of Tirading Toddlers in a Walmart about a move that has zero bearing on whether or not we can acquire some solid help to fill those holes?

  2. The have $8.462 million to spend after this signing. Thats with 23 men on the roster. You can sign Markov, and send Joe Morrow, or Jerabek, or Streit to the minors, and you get their cap hit off the books. Freeing up the same $700k. This move prevents NOTHING.

  3. Great signing. Streit didn't play any games in the Cup final, and neither will the 2017-2018 Canadiens.

  4. Honestly I see him as a Nesterov replacement. I've even heard some have the idea that most of these signings (Streit, Hemsky, Morrow, Holland, Taormina) are actually meant for Laval to boost interest in the team and ensure it's a big success. What looks like a roster clog isn't that. All these guys will eventually be shipped to Laval to help that team. Even if he isn't meant for the AHL, he's a seat filler in the press box. Not much else. If there's more expectation for Streit beyond "play when someone gets hurt" or "play when the team needs a PP punch", the pro scouting is dumber than we thought. The problem you need to understand is that every decision Bergevin makes that isn't fixing the holes he watched get wider for years, is going to cause people to be restless and angry. And that's justified. Bergevin lost his "everyone be patient" after year four. Patience is over. Get this team to win a Stanley Cup or GTFO. Anything less than the Cup final is a failure.

  5. Of course this move does not prevent MB from making another move, however it absolutely makes a Markov signing at least a little less likely. I'm not mad about the signing, but I'll be upset if I don't see one more year of Marky

  6. it compares the 2 player's value to a team while they are playing on the same team, to put in perspective how much we lose Vs what we gained in straight up swap, did I really have to explain that?

  7. The biggest criticism of this move is that it is only a small help, when a bigger move is still needed. However, this move also does nothing to prevent the bigger move.

  10. Another stolen link from HabsWorld home page. No I didn't write it, but do like the positive stuff for sure. https://habsterix.com/2017/07/23/habs-players-get-into-mentorship/

  11. "Dangling" a top pair Team Canada Dman for a fringe 4th line team Canada center, come on man you can't possibly think so little of Weber can you? that deal just plain and simply makes us worse and offers no cap relief or anything. Imagine this current D without Weber, Imagine this PP without Weber, imagine Petry forced to play 25+ min a night against the best of the best night in and night out. our movable assets lie on the wing, if the dance partner has different needs and the pieces don't fit, you have to move on and explore other options.

  12. Nice very low risk deal. Alzner has never missed a game in his career. Played 82, 82, 82, 82, 48, 82, 82 in last 6 yrs, so what is the injury history you are babbling about?

  13. Well heck that means he's the second best scorer on the Habs D! Streit - Weber Alzner - Petry Schlemko - Benn

  14. Weber for Giroux is just idiotic, But have to assume it is attempted joke.

  15. Philly doesn't have the cap space to take on Plekanec, and if they trade Giroux it will have much to do with cap reasons. They also already took on Filppula at $5M. Montreal does have the space, especially to take Giroux on as a 1C, but Philly needs defencemen. This is the tragic issue with most teams with a centre Montreal could trade for. They need defencemen, and Montreal is shallow there. It's what Yzerman took for Drouin. It's what Philly and Colorado will want for their centres. You're better off dangling Shea Weber in a one for one for Giroux.

  16. There's a difference between being critical of a player you have nothing to do with and a key guy on your team that you have a vested interest in and how you handle the situation. Every player that has played for Robinson has nothing but respect for him and how he communicates. He has never gone on a public tirade the way MT does. As a hall of farmer, cup winner (player and coach), Robinson commands respect. He has been known for developing dman in particular (Stevens, Blake, vlasic, neidermeyer) to name a few. He would have handled the situation with much more finesse. MT on the other hand was a bafoon at his best but more often than not simply a loud mouth baboon. He has zero credibility. He is probably one of the few coaches in NHL history who was responsible for his team losing a playoff series, because HE took two bench minors that turned around the game. If MT had to perform surgery, he would use a sledgehammer, where a scalpel is required.

  17. http://www.tsn.ca/habs-sign-d-streit-to-one-year-deal-1.813160 Enough said.. UNBELIEVABLE Markov should just go out and say back to BERGEVIN " if you want loyalty go and got a dog " wow What is happening to this organization. You take care of your own backyard and leadership is from top down. For the first time in my life ..I am saying I have more confidence in the Maple leafs leadership group than the HABS clowns.. Wow I didn't think I could ever say that. Just mind blowing how far down this team has come. A simple class act of reciprocation to sign Markov.. Wow

  18. It's another 700k that would be available to sign Markov. I think you sign Markov/Markov replacement first, before you chip away cap space for a guy who at his stage could be a training camp invite.

  19. He's talking about the number of injuries he had last year. Injuries that caused him to miss game 7. He talked about it in many interviews he gave after the year, including a hand injury history that sounds degenerative. Get Bergevin's wang out of your mouth, you meathead.
