  1. Apparently this is not one of the drafting criteria!

  2. Meaningless fan vote from JFresh ranking the top 125 Dmen in the league. Habs look good

  3. It would take Matheson plus a lot. or Guhle plus a lot. This is a third overall pick, a centre with size, who was 2nd on his team in scoring last year. He's not cheap.

  4. Agreed ... but cue the HE ISN'T A 2C complaints across the Internet

  5. 1 year, 900K So hes either a depth forward on the team, or if sent to Laval doesnt count on the cap. Not a bad gamble.

  6. “No Favors From Me” — Kozlov on Zharovsky’s Rise And NHL Potential “We brought Zharovsky up for the playoffs because one of our under-21 players got injured,” Kozlov explained in an exclusive interview with RG. “Initially, I thought I’d just dress him, maybe give him one or two shifts.” But what Kozlov saw in those early moments changed everything. “When he stepped on the ice, I noticed he didn’t seem nervous. I liked that. I liked how he always had a clear plan when he had the puck. He either passed it directly to a teammate, took a shot, or made a move himself—he wasn’t just getting rid of it.” Source: https://rg.org/news/hockey/no-favors-from-me-viktor-kozlov-discusses-zharovsky-rise-nhl-potential-canadiens

  7. I agree with this. If we get a 2C then Matheson can go. Otherwise Im holding him.

  8. Matheson #s dropped, assume some must be the Hutson-factor. 23-24 82gms 25:33 62pts PP-3:41 PK-2:59 24-25 80gms 25:05 30pts PP-1:57 PK-3:28 Who knows, maybe he and Dobson could be a good pairing and just stick Hutson on right-side with Guhle?

  9. Yes, good post. What do you do with Matheson? If he is willing to accept a lesser roll with a bit of a hometown discount then perhaps you extend him. If not then you have to look at trading him. I am sure Matheson has had discussions with Hughes about his future. His next contract will also likely be his last chance at making good money. But if he can help get somebody to fill the 2c role then he is likely gone.

  10. So what do you do with Matheson? Used to playing 25minutes/game but no longer will, he will get zero PP time anymore and his contract is running out. So trading him at some point still makes sense, be in now, mid-season or at deadline (least preferred if in a playoff spot). BUT, he is the only Hab d-man over the age of 28, so creating an even younger d-core likely not recommended. Will be interesting and are always injuries so need depth also.

  11. OK, so I started with a list of the NHL starters (30 goalies who played at least 41 games) and narrowed it to the younger ones (more recent picks); I used 28 as the cutoff, which gave me 17 goalies. Five Canadians, five Americans and seven Europeans (two Czechs, two Russians, two Swedes and one Finn) Six from CHL (1 OHL, 1 QMJHL and 4 WHL), four from NCAA, three from Liiga, two from SHL and one each from ExtraLiga and KHL. Four out of five US goalies chose the NCAA route, in Europe Liiga was a popular option for young goalies. 12. That's what I think, they were willing to pay the price for Bolduc not so much for Kyrou.

  13. Likely why they traded for Bolduc and had no interest in trading the likes of a Guhle or maybe Reinbacher for Kyrou?

  14. I expect that Hughes will not give up Matheson for anything less than a high-quality 2C.

  15. My prediction is that we'll have Kapanen in the Habs lineup to start (and Blais as the 13th F), with Beck in Laval.
