The Coyotes sat Chychrun tonight for trade related reasons. A team like the Kings have the young pieces to get him. Perhaps the Leafs will make a big play as they have some good young pieces. Something must be happening if they sat him.

Good memory! Now if they draft Will Smith we will know they are continuing with the plan. -
Permanent Trade Proposal Thread

You don't pick up a player to help with the tank. What kind of message would that send to the other young players in the organization? You pick up a player because you think there is some untapped potential that could develop into something positive within your organization. -
I agree, I think with his skill level he can potentially/maybe be a 2nd pairing defensemen as his mobility and smarts are strong points. He needs to get stronger and handle the physical play a bit better which is an adjustment for many young defensemen. I really like his attitude. I am cheering for him. It's a reasonable contract.

Ranking GMs Post Serge Savard

I agree, MB left HuGo with some good young pieces and extra picks so he is not starting from scratch. i just wish MB had done a full rebuild but that was difficult to do when you have veterans like Price and Weber who wanted another shot at the cup. -
Ranking GMs Post Serge Savard

Those were awful trades but they won a cup with an unlikely run when guys like Paul Dipietro had an amazing playoff and of course Patrick Roy in net. -

If we didn't want them to succeed then we wouldn't really be Habs fans. -

Of all the trades made by the GM's mentioned the Gomez trade has to be the biggest head shaker for me. In a salary cap world you would generally have to provide a sweetener to dump a contract like Gomez. Gainey was happy to give up McDonough and Higgins to take it on. He was absolutely taken to the cleaners on that one. That trade absolutely ruined any positive thoughts I had about Gainey as a GM. MB did some good things but was inconsistent, Houle was in over his head, Gauthier was no good while Savard was ok but nothing great. I have higher hopes for Hughes. -
I think this is an excellent trade for the Rangers, they had an extra 1st round pick so it makes perfect sense. They have excellent goaltending, a solid defense core and Tarasenko will definitely help up front.

The Blues are officially sellers (no surprise) and the Rangers are all in as Tarasenko goes to the Rangers.

Tank Hard for Bedard (as heard on TSN690)

Agreed, you need to have hope. And hope comes from having a management team you have confidence in that has a realistic plan. I have a lot of confidence in the current management team given what I have seen so far. I think/hope/believe that the future looks bright. -
Didn't watch it. I lost interest in the all star game a long time ago. It seems like a waste of time to me.
-
Agreed, if Hughes is able to snag another 1st rounder it will most likely be with a team that has a legitimate shot at the cup and will probably end up in the 24-32 range. If it's a bubble team it will be a protected pick similar to the Islanders trade.

You would think a team that is going to do something for sure is Vegas. They need to replace Stone and have cap room now. It looks like another Kucherov situation. Definitely see them going after a big name.

We can always throw Gally in, maybe they won't notice. LOL Good analysis of their picks and prospects. I really think LA does something at the deadline.

2023 NHL Entry Draft
Habs Fan in Edmonton replied to Habs Fan in Edmonton's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Agreed. I have been reading a lot of great things about Ryan Leonard and Oliver Moore. Perhaps a couple guys in the Habs range if they draft 7-10. Moore is a great skater, Leonard is pretty good too. -
He would certainly help the teams you mentioned. I find LA an interesting situation. They have a lot of good prospects and all their picks, Kopitar is 35, Doughty is 33 so you think at some point they will go hard for it. They are a bubble team and MB is there and has traded for Anderson before. There might be a fit there.
-
I just don't see Anderson being traded at the deadline given his long term contract as I see that as more of a "hockey" trade than a deadline deal and requires some long term planning. It gives the insiders something to talk about. But anything is possible.

A crazy night in the NHL, Chicago wins in Calgary 5-1, Anaheim wins in Colorado and Arizona smacks St. Louis. I wonder what the odds were of those 3 results? No tanking tonight.

GDT Game #49 Detroit at Montreal 7pm est Jan 26

It is the perfect result. A very good night, would love to see Buffalo go on a roll, a lot of good young talent on that team. -

I am good with that. Let's also hope that Washington and Pittsburgh go into overtime. -
It definitely seems like Primeau has regressed, as you say goalies are hard to figure out. At least with Montembeault playing this well it has bought them some time. I think they would only trade Allen if a deal came long they couldn't turn down. Many (including myself) thought goaltending would be a weak point for the Habs this year. That hasn't been the case.
