  1. I like this signing. Worse case is a taxi squad guy, best case is a Kovalchuk-esque reclamation project. Low risk, if he can throw up 20+ points in the absolute best case scenario, he can be flipped at the deadline barring a playoff run. Absolute worse case is he sits on the taxi squad.
  2. Watching the Czech vs Russia game. The Russians are getting real floppy in the 3rd while trailing. Czech players can't touch a Russian player without the Russians falling and grasping on body parts. It's embarrassing.
  3. Yeah, sorry, forgot the rule that says it’s a fixed amount that can be buried by sending them to the minors, regardless of contract type.
  4. I don’t see Danault being moved this early. If the kids play him to the 3rd line, maybe at the deadline, in the right circumstances. Weren’t they over the cap to the point of having to bury money or make a trade? For 750k, wouldn’t it be a 2-way that can easily be buried?
  5. I just found this today and you guys really need to read it. They will let anyone publish now. https://editorinleaf.com/2020/11/25/toronto-maple-leafs-habs/amp/
  6. Bergevin said in an interview he wants to make Gallagher the highest paid forward on the habs. I was assuming it would be in the $6.5-$7mil range. It wouldn’t surprise me that term in the issue. Gallagher definitely wants 8 years, I just don’t see his type of player being worth 8 years at $6.5mil for the last 4 years of that deal. When he drops off, it’ll be fast.
  7. With all the names available due to the cap crunch and the looming expansion draft, this is a golden opportunity to make a big splash. Honestly, not attempting something is far worse than failing. Bergevin has draft picks, cap space and a decent prospect pool. What he doesn’t have is time for that prospect pool or draft picks to mature before Price and Weber are too old and eating cap space, hindering making the team better. This is the epitome of all in or all out. There has never been or probably ever will be a golden opportunity like this to make a significant difference in a short amount of time.
  8. Does anyone believe that after this move and buying out Alzner, that we are not still big game hunting? i still think we may be in on a big fish.
  9. Tampa saying Stamkos is available. What about KK + the 16th for Stamkos? he’s had injury problems and they need to clear cap space so that should lower his value some and habs should be willing to part with a center for an upgrade.
  10. The whole premise of the idea is a pre-arranged trade with the UFA and team they are going to. So the player already is aware of what team they are going to. Like the expansion draft trades where teams give up assets so the drafting team selects a specific player.
  11. I don’t see how a NMC would interfere with this at all. Only a full no-trade clause would, but you can’t offer full no trade clauses to free agents, only resigning on the current team like the 8-year contract rule. I could also be wrong about this, but I’m fairly confident.
  12. This is a trade proposal thread, so how about one out of nowhere without any basis, I’m not even sure it’s it would be legal. Habs find out what team Pietrangelo or Hall wants to play for, sign one for 2-3 years at $8-$8.5mil and trade them to that team while retaining salary? For instance, sign Pietrangelo 2 years at $8mil, trade him to Winnipeg for Laine, while retaining $1.25mil of his salary to make the salaries even. Winnipeg has some cap space, but players to sign. I do see all types of issues with contract length for Pietrangelo, but in theory is that even legal under the CBA?
  13. I do get the sense that once a trade happens the dominoes will start to fall. What’s this about Domi for a first? Is there a trade in the works I missed? Reports are saying Hall is willing to sign short term to win now. That would rule the habs out, no? I don’t think with what has been done so far, the addition of Hall would turn the habs into contenders. I also don’t believe the cap spec is available to sign what is needed to do so either.
  14. Drouin reminds me of Semin. He would thrive is a situation where he is the secondary playmaker/shooter on a line, much like Semin did on the wing of Backstrom and Ovechkin. A lot of players could pick up points in that role, but like Semin, I believe he could make people think he’s just almost good as his linemates.
  15. That could be very possible. The truth is it would be irresponsible of Bergevin to not be kicking tires on Laine. It’s also going to be tough for Winnipeg to get great value on Laine while Hall isn’t signed anywhere. It’s also going to be tough due the the cap situation next few years as well as Laine will be looking for a raise after next season, which undoubtedly has teams worried. I don’t expect a Laine trade until mid October at the earliest and probably to a team with some spare cap space.
  16. Pat Hickey says the habs might get Laine if they offer; To Winnipeg Domi, Kulak, Juulsen/Fleury and a 1st 2020 To Montreal Laine If this where true, wouldn’t this be an absolute yes?
  17. Thanks for educating me on the US NTDP situation, I don't follow it myself. Romaov's value is clearly tied to his World Juniors accomplishments. Outside of those, he's just ok. He's not playing meaningful minutes in the KHL. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm going on whats being said on here about him.
  18. Caufield May turn out to be a great player. What he is right now is a player looking great in non-professional hockey. He has barely any professional hockey experience and the little he does have is in the IIHF World Juniors, on one of the top 4 teams in the world, playing teams that are worse than his college team. The last World Juniors tournament, I watched a few USA games to see how good this highly regarded player was. He didn’t look spectacular to me, he looked ok, not like a sure-fire 40 goal scorer. Didn’t Justin Shultz look like a cant miss prospect when he was playing in college and wouldn’t sign with the Oilers? Forgive me for suggesting an unproven player is worth trading for a proven goal scorer. I may eat my words about him in a couple of years, but this is what I see now.
  19. I would do Laine for Domi, Caufield and a 1st.
  20. With 2 young centres and Danault probably centring the 1st line, an offensive young kid on the 3rd line would be an asset. I did a quick google on a scouting report and the only one not from 2016, has him projected to be a 1st/2nd line winger, I take that with a grain of salt naturally. As for his value, he stated he wanted out, because of that his value tanked dramatically, circa Drouin pre-apologizing and making it seem like he still wanted to play in Tampa. Teams won’t offer fair value in a situation like that and Edmonton wants nothing less than fair value. I’m not sure I understand the notion of holding on to a 30 year old backup, even if he is above average, for a shot at a 22 year old 2nd/3rd line winger that has the potential to be a 1st line winger. Realistically Allen won’t resign after next season anyway. As for another backup, it’s going to be fairly easy to acquire or sign a decent backup with short term due to the cap situation.
  21. That’s fair if that were the end of the moves. With Domi, Mete and a bunch of picks rumoured to be up for grabs, with a flat salary cap, teams looking to unload contracts and the market having some decent goaltenders being UFAs in a couple of weeks, I would be surprised if another backup couldn’t be found.
  22. If that’s the consensus, why wouldn’t we retain part of Allen’s salary, up to 50% to get it done, and use that as a starting point for Puljujarvi? Oilers are in the market for a goalie, are strapped for cash and Allen has better numbers than Smith and Koskinen. He only has 1 more year left but so does Koskinen so if they do decide to resign him, they will have $6 mil plus from just Allen and Koskinen next offseason. We get a RFA top-9 winger, potentially top-6, they get a cheap goaltender better than they currently have.
  23. Just read Kessel is on the block with 2 years @5mil per left i know he has attitude issues and his defence is suspect, but a Domi + picks to get him for 2 years may be worth it if Arizona will have Domi back.
  24. I wholeheartedly agree that at this moment I time Danault is more valuable to us than Domi. For not other reason than, as Commandant pointed out, to insulate our up and coming centres. Thanks not saying long term Domi wouldn’t be better once Suzuki and Kotkineime(I butchered the spelling) develope further. Having to choose one or the other right now, it would be Danault. That all being said, Danault is basically Plekanec. He will be, at best, a 2nd line center on a good team, but more likely a really good 3rd line shutdown guy. It’s fine if he believes he’s a 1st line guy, because on this team at this moment he is. He’s still basically Plekanec.
  25. As a straight trade, you are absolutely right. A top-6 forward RFA for a top-4 defenceman UFA is insane. I would imaging a trade like that would be on the back of a pre-negotiated deal with Krug. So that 4th would just be a 3rd.
