GDT Round #1, game #4: Capitals at Canadiens, 6:30 PM on 27 April

Again, over simplification but it is officiated exactly as the owners want it to be. Until someone gets killed or paralyzed and public outcry forces the issue, forget about changes. I thought Anderson and others deserved a penalty or two for hits from behind, but just like Shae Weber slashs in front of net, as you say thats just playoff hockey! -

I think it is the vocal minority and most fans realize Habs coaching staff would love to trust Arber but his defending dosent warrent it, yet.

As others noted Caps took advantage of Habs miscues in the 3rd. Young inexperienced teams, it will happen. BUT, 2a on PP for Hutson-Demidov, great sign for the future. -
Still a relatively young d-man and does have some intangibles (strong, intimidation, big shot, can skate well for a big guy). Need the skills coachs to hopefully help his decision making improve over the summer.

We can just hope his recovery and current injuries are playing into his weak play, somewhat? -
Which is what the AHL is for, not the NHL playoffs.

Caps in 5 still seems likely outcome. But maybe the kids can keep it up and get the series back to Montreal? 10 Thoughts: Costly Third Puts Habs on the Brink of Elimination – HabsWorld.net 2nd Star: Ivan Demidov... 3rd Star: Lane Hutson... https://www.habseyesontheprize.com/another-day-another-playoff-lesson-for-montreal-canadiens-lane-hutson-kaiden-guhle-jakub-dobes-defensive-play-errors-breakdowns/ Their strategy ultimately paid off, as all three goals against Jakub Dobeš stemmed from Montreal errors. On the first, Dobeš and Lane Hutson couldn’t decide what to do with a loose puck slowly sliding toward the Montreal net. On the second, Mike Matheson couldn’t handle a bouncing puck lobbed toward him as the Canadiens were changing. On the third, Arber Xhekaj found himself on the right side of the ice rather than his familiar left while Kaiden Guhle was overaggressive in pursuing the puck-carrier. -

Big goons just tend to be very popular. Habs Weekly: Hanging in There – HabsWorld.net "... Guess what? Whether Xhekaj was there or not, they were going to elevate their game. And don’t get me started about how the team is better when he’s in the lineup. The fact is that late in the season, the Habs had a better record without him than with him...." Gorton discusses growth of Canadiens on ice and off in Q&A with NHL.com | NHL.com You named Nick Suzuki captain on Sept. 12, 2022. He was 23 years old. What did you see in Nick then and what have you seen from him now? "The best thing for me about Nick is that you can just see him getting better every day. Since I've been here, it's been about 3 1/2 years, he's better every season, and not just marginally better...."

Canadiens playoff hopes, for now and beyond, appear in good hands with Hutson and Slafkovský - The Athletic Hutson is showing it. When he was on the ice at five-on-five in Game 3, the Canadiens controlled 68.57 percent of the shot attempts, 70.59 percent of the shots on goal and 86.27 percent of the expected goals. The environment in the Bell Centre could have made some young players wilt. It only drove Slafkovský. “I never experienced anything like that,” he said. “When we first got on the ice before the game started, it was crazy. That’s what it’s all about. That’s why the playoffs are fun. That’s why we want to be here and that’s why we want to keep winning games, so we can have this more and more.”

Filip Eriksson's Swedish season done yesterday, might he come over and at least practice with Laval?

Given the opportunity, big line drives Habs back into the series In the friendly confines of the Bell Centre, armed with last change, head coach St-Louis freed his charges from these shackles, setting them loose upon Dylan Strome, Alexander Ovechkin, and Anthony Beauvillier. The result: 16-4 in shot attempts, 10-2 in shots on goal, and 86.3% of the expected goals — in a mere five-and-a-half minutes of five-on-five play. -

Silly. Anyone miss boat anchor Laine? No one complaining about the reffing today, great to not hear. Was old Ovi all tuckered out when rookie made slick pass to Caufield? 10 Thoughts: Habs Get Physical in Game 3 Win – HabsWorld.net 3rd Star – Lane Hutson Many players could have received a nod here, notably Gallagher, Slafkovsky, or Demidov. I simply can’t get over Hutson’s poise in his reads and how he was able to completely put a much bigger, much more experienced, and an all-time no doubt Hall of Famer in Ovechkin in his pocket on the play where he picked off the puck and found Caufield. Hutson has accepted the physical punishment of the series and bounced back to a positive factor for the Habs in this ultra-important game. Not bad for a rookie who apparently “can’t play defence”. I still would like to see him shoot more, though. Stats: 1 assist, +1, 24:50 T.O.I. -
