GDT Game #58 Habs vs Islanders 7PM Thursday FEB 26 2026
DON replied to DON's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Dach has shown some good 'stuff' so far on 1st line. Hope the extra couple weeks off has helped his recovery and is a nice fit for remainder or season. -
Shooting % drop. And maybe playing him checking line, as know he wont be top six in Montreal? I think has been doing OK.

3rd start in 3 days, what can ya expect.

3-1 loss Laval Rocket @ Utica Comets Sunday, February 22, 2026 | TheAHL.com | The American Hockey League A listless effort ends the Laval Rocket’s point streak With some bumps and bruises along with a possible illness going around the team at the end of a three-games-in-three-days stretch, there were some lineup changes for Pascal Vincent. Jared Davidson was withdrawn from the lineup as Xavier Simoneau slotted in alongside Sammy Blais and Lucas Condotta. Will Dineen drew in on the fourth line for Luke Tuch, while Josiah Didier stepped in for Nate Clurman on defence. With Jacob Fowler still under the weather, it was a third straight game for Kaapo Kähkönen in net with Hunter Jones serving as the backup.

dlbalr mentioned it a while ago and makes sense. Wonder what affordable vet 3rd pairing options might be available in next 2 weeks?

2025-26 Prospect Stock Watch: Stock Up – HabsWorld.net ... Yes, he’s not going to be a volume shooter in the pros as he is now and yes, his defensive game still needs some work. But Pickford more than earned his entry-level deal and has quickly become one of Montreal’s more intriguing prospects.
-
3 on 3 OT was interesting choice.
-
Dont think Reinbacher or Pickford get traded before deadline. Have 'too many' forwards and Laine and or some other forward likely be going. Seems they dont trust Xhekaj/Struble, so maybe will they add a 3rd pairing vet for playoffs?
-
Pickford 1g1a 7 shots 1st star of game. 34g 65pts 44games
-
Quinn Hughes will score.
-
2-1 SO Win
-
He has 256 WHL games under his belt and having a great year in final junior year. What kind of pro he will be, who knows? 1st year in Laval will obviously be more telling.
-
Oh well, hope Slafkovski is motivated to add another medal to his resume, has a big game and they upset Finland.
-
Does Laine need to play at least a game or two, to show he is healthy enough to keep up?
-
Hage/Pickford/Sawyer/Paupanekis 1a

3-2 OT win Laval Rocket @ Rochester Americans Friday, February 20, 2026 | TheAHL.com | The American Hockey League KK played net Engstrom 1a 2 shots Beck 1a 1 shot Reinbacher 0pts 2 shots

Zharovski 0pts 3 shots 16:36 0pts 0 shots just 10:22 last game Think i saw noted he was benched. Maybe just nagging inury or bit of teenage immaturity?
-
I would say is more value playing in AHL playoffs, than pressbox or limited role in NHL. As was noted St Louis unlikely to trust him with much rope. BUT, i think the whole burning a year of contract may be offered and he would have to stay in NHL?
-
So will it be Slaf vs Canada on Friday?
-
Newhook practiced in non-contact jersey.

24th maybe close to where Habs end up. 2026 Draft Preview: Midseason 17-24 – HabsWorld.net #24 – Nikita Klepov Saginaw Spirit (OHL) – LW Start of season rank: 28 With 75 points in 54 games, Klepov is on pace to just miss the 100-point mark in his first OHL season. The skill is obvious with this kid, but his commitment to defence remains a question mark. Scouts have observed a marked improvement in said commitment this season, so perhaps the productive six-foot winger can move up the ranking by June. This would be a very intriguing player for the Habs to consider as a bit of a safe option behind Alexander Zharovsky.

After his NCAA season ends, will it be Montreal or Laval? Canadiens Prospect Michael Hage Could Finish His Season in Montreal - The Hockey Writers - Montreal Canadiens - NHL News, Analysis & More The possibility is real. Based on his production, Hage has earned consideration. But this is not the same Canadiens team as two years ago. This group is competitive. They are chasing a second straight playoff appearance. Development decisions now must align with winning.
