  1. How do you mean? Supplementalary discipline is defined in the CBA in Article 18.
  2. All of my playoff watching happened on CBC, although I was on the south side of the border where TSN wasn't an option for me. We got 2 CBC channels, Ottawa and Montreal. If I remember correctly, there was a brief period of time in the early/mid-80s that CTV had a few games. On our thirteen dial TV, three channels (4,8, and 10) were Canadian broadcast TV.
  3. Barf, if not the Habs, I’d have preferred any other franchise win the lottery. Between their Kyle Beach scandal and intentional dismantling of their team…booo
  4. Not being exposed to the media hype machine of the Great White North, I can only claim ignorance as to what y'all must be going through. I hope Edmonton can win it all and be the return of the Cup to Canada, if I have to choose a Canadian savior that is not Montreal. For me, the Bruins are my hated Habs rival, so I'm quite pleased to see them eliminated. Not gonna lie, I'm just glad that here, I didn't have to be exposed to yet another Crosby/Ovechkin series. If I never see another Pens/Caps game, it'll still be too soon. Now imagine an all-Bettman final four of Seattle, Vegas, Florida, Carolina. Talk about a ratings disaster, it'll be bad enough in the US if the Rangers get punted tonight.
  5. Not yet it didn’t. Florida will need to make the conference finals for their draft position to change.
  6. Not sure which ref called it, but given the way Marchment's leg whips around, I can certainly see why a ref interpreted that as a trip, with Foligno's foot going under Marchment's left leg. I can watch games fairly objectively, and it's absolutely amazing how many people are conspiracy theorist, ref boo-ing maniacs. At the end of the day, refs are going to get some calls wrong. It's part of the game.
  7. Went to watch the Colorado/Ontario AHL playoff game tonight. Galchenyuk and Hudon (big time fan favorite) move on after sweeping Ontario. Nate Thompson played for the Reign. I have to wonder if that was his last game. He was the last Ontario player off the ice, gave all the players a very heartfelt handshake/hug in the handshake line, seeked out each ref, and looked up in the stands as he circled the ice. Definitely looked like he was soaking it all in. Chucky had a pair of assists and was the third star.
  8. Performance in playoffs is more celebrated. If a guy has 4 pts in a game on Dec 13th, it's interesting, but hey, whatever. If he has a 4 pt performance on May 13th, then it's obvious he can perform in high pressure situations. Clutch is just a word used to describe a player that goes on a well timed streak at a certain time of the year. But everyone has different opinions, and that's ok. I just don't believe that players have some mythical power to allow them to be a different player than they were during the regular season.
  9. Looking at Samsonov's career regular season vs playoff numbers (without getting into advanced goalie stats, because I don't care THAT much), his numbers aren't drastically different in terms of save % and GAA. Last year, his playoff stats were better than his regular season stats, other than W-L. But judging from that blurb, seems TO has chosen their scapegoat if they bounce (yet again) in the first round. I also don't subscribe to the "clutch" theory. All of these professional athletes have mental fortitude or they wouldn't be in the NHL. There's preparation, hard work, and luck. Some players go on a streak, due to a combination of those three things, at the right time of the year, and all of a sudden, they become known as clutch.
  10. One of these things is not like the others. Looking at Galchenyuk and Kotkaniemi, and their relative draft position, and taking your 2009-18, some good players taken at #3. Also interesting just to think of player movement in the NHL. Of just these draft picks, only two are still with their drafting team. '09 Duchene '10 Gudbranson '11 Huberdeau '12 Chucky '13 Drouin '14 Draisaitl '15 D. Strome '16 Dubois '17 Heiskanen '18 Kotkaniemi Looking at the Chucky draft, 2012 overall looks like a bit of a stinker. Seems like the Habs should've gone with Bob McKenzie's pre-draft ranking for 3rd....Filip Forsberg. Also thinking about 2012, kinda funny that the only two Habs picks (Galchenyuk/Hudon) to ever see the NHL both play for the AHL Colorado Eagles. This has been today's random draft insights from huzer.
  11. Hughes didn't meet the service requirements in the first season, as he only played 5 games. While that burns a contract year, it does not count as a year of professional experience. Caufield player 10 in his first season, which does count as a year of professional service. I don't see why, according to the CBA, Caufield isn't offer sheet eligible, other than we don't want him to be. First SPC Signing Age Eligible for Group 2 Free Agency 18 - 21 3 years professional experience For the purposes of this Section 10.2(a), a Player aged 18 or 19 earns a year of professional experience by playing ten (10) or more NHL Games in a given NHL Season, and a Player aged 20 or older (or who turns 20 between September 16 and December 31 of the year in which he signs his first SPC) earns a year of professional experience by playing ten (10) or more Professional Games under an SPC in a given League Year.
  12. There are two drawings. It's possible for the Habs to drop back two spots.
  13. I think the Habs could be a team of 6'4" 240lb players, and one 5'11" 190 lb player, and they'd be considered "small". Kouiv! Petrov! Caufield! Gallagher! Tiny Habs! The Avs are the smallest team in the league. I'll take their Cup, thanks!
  14. Honestly, I don't think he was trying to lose. He was just having fun with it, didn't care, and letting guys have fun. No pressure, just go out there and do your thing.
  15. Who would’ve predicted THAT for a shootout lineup? I think Allen may have been the next shooter.
  16. Farrell officially onboard. Welcome to the fold!
  17. I never said anyone had to follow the same path. None of those players success would have been hampered by NOT being in the NHL at 18 years old. Nothing proves a point like picking the .05% of draft picks that are successful at 18yo.🙄
  18. The thought process seems to be big body forward = NHL ready, small body forward = not NHL ready. This predates Hughes, Bergevin, Gainey, Savard, etc, etc. Generally, it's bigger bodies that get rushed. In reality, no player, regardless of size, should be rushed. Simply put, no 18 year old is ready. Why so many hockey minds can't get that is beyond me. It'd never happen, but the NHL/NHLPA should implement a higher minimum age to save GMs from themselves. It's stupid. Imagine putting a high school football player directly into the NFL. As far as injuries, that's a a completely different issue. However, I'm sure a good percentage of the Habs injuries, they would be playing if the Habs weren't a basement team. A longer recovery period instead of the typical 2-3 months players get from surgeries during the off season should certainly be beneficial.
  19. He did and will play in Laval to end the year. . Struble also signed an AHL contract allowing him to finish the current season with the Laval Rocket. https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/two-year-entry-level-contract-for-jayden-struble/c-342242984
  20. Ducks since the All Star Break: 6-6-5 - 17 pts Habs since the All Star Break: 6-8-2 - 14 pts The Ducks need to outpace the Habs by 5 pts over the last 15 games. Despite the Habs 7 game slide (in which they managed 2 pts due to OTL), the Ducks only outpaced them by 3. Post TDL: Ducks: 2-1-2 - 6 pts Habs: 0-4-2 - 2 pts Not impossible, but it'll be close. I had thought they would be comfortably 4th, but think they'll end up 5th.
  21. Stunning that the Habs have only needed Primeau for 20 minutes this year. Imagine where this team would be with Primeau as the starter for ~20 games or so.
  22. Where did I say anything negative? I said this: A highly paid, oft injured player, that can contribute in a secondary supporting role when healthy. Is he highly paid? Yes. Is he hurt often? Yes. Can he contribute? Yes. I never once mentioned his attitude or demeanor. As far as the center comment: LAVAL-SUR-LE-LAC, Quebec -- Jonathan Drouin will play center when the Montreal Canadiens open training camp later this week, and Alex Galchenyuk will not. Coach Claude Julien and general manager Marc Bergevin each made it clear at the Canadiens' golf tournament on Monday that Drouin, who played wing for the Tampa Bay Lightning, will be at center when camp opens Friday. https://www.nhl.com/news/canadiens-will-play-jonathan-drouin-at-center/c-291003624 Yes. Bergevin goes on to deny he acquired him to be the 1st line center, so I'll just put that there before you call me out on it. Considering they put him there before they even hit the ice for his first training camp with Montreal is statement enough for me. I'll move on now. Again, half the time, I feel you just thoroughly enjoy being contrarian and simply putting words in others mouths.
  23. There aren't many posters bringing up Hoffman and Armia. It's the fairly consistent posting regarding Drouin that force discussions around him. Drouin is what he is. A highly paid, oft injured player, that can contribute in a secondary supporting role when healthy. I don't fault Drouin. He's a helluva better hockey player than I could ever hope to be. Drouin at this point represents the systematic failures of the Habs to ice a bonafide 1st line center in decades more than he represents his limitations as a hockey player. Even if he resigned for the Habs at league minimum, people will continue to hold him to that initial expectation. On your last point, I agree. Drouin on another team, where there will never be the reminder of "1st line center" aspirations, will be good for him.
  24. This has to be the quietest deadline in term of rumor/chatter that I can remember. I didn't expect much, with most of the Habs potential trade fodder injured. I haven't even subjected myself to the TSN show, but I'm rather surprised they didn't shrink it a little bit, given how many trades have happened in the past week.
  25. After tonight's game against the Ducks, the Habs have a pretty brutal 10 game stretch, the only non-playoff team on the schedule is Florida.
