I don't see how the entire concept of the KHL is realistic. There is no possible way for this area to sustain a league any larger than what was the RSL. You have teams going out there and paying people like Jagr millions of dollars. Where is the money coming from? I don't see any possible way other than the owners willing to cough it up.
These teams certainly aren't gate driven. They play in areans which for the most part resemble those used in the CHL, in terms of capacity. Not to mention that the wealth isn't there to support these teams like the NHL has, be it from fans or corporate sponsors. With my upmost respect, teams in Kazakstan or Belarus are going to have a hell of a time competing. In fact, as will many in rural Russia.
For the top tier teams, the money is there. (Moscow Dynamo, etc). They have decent markets, decent facilities and deep-pocketed ownership. But other teams don't have any of these things. To me, there will be a massive gap in the quality of teams, with only a select few being able to afford genuine NHL talent.
To me, it'll look like an MLB division with the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Marlins, the Devil Rays and the Diamondbacks...
