Jean
Wow! Flyers might actually attract a free agent now (not sure about their cap room though?). According to HF Boards Edited June 19, 2007 by Jean
JMMR
Thats not bad with 16 skaters and 2 goalies signed.
mathieu30
another sign of desperation by the Flyers... the insane amount of money plus the draft pick just to get 72 hours for negotiations!... If only i could get 72 hours to negotiate with Mathieu Garon.. :contract: Go :hlogo: go!
Tony
Sure on paper the Flyers have a good team but if you watched them carefully, you can tell they need some massive work. They have the young guys but they're not all fully developed and that will hurt them immediately.
House11
Mike Rathje seems to be missing from that list. doesn't he make like 3.5 mil ? Unless he's gets a long term disability clause he'll count against the cap.
Tony
Rathje is on the long-term IR and pretty much done in the NHL. http://nhlnumbers.com/phi.html
jetsniper
I thought Rathje had retired. You know Pitkanen's gonna demand a hefty raise so that will cut into the cap. Unless the rumors the Oilers are close to getting him are true.
Tony
Flyers would get some massive help if they can move Hatcher's contract but that's way more easier said than done.
InsaneHABSfan
Flyers would get some massive help if they can move Hatcher's contract but that's way more easier said than done. All they have to do is call JFjr. Leafs love big slow pilons on the ice.
Tony
Imagining a defensive pairing of Hal Gill and Derian Hatcher (with Raycroft in nets) must be every NHL forward's dream.
BTH
They have guys o ntheir roster who are used to winning and even used to winning in Philly. Now that the yhave the talent, they will be great. Their slow D is what hurt them last year. Now that they have Timonen and Coburn (who is better and more mobile at this age than a guy like Hatcher) they can keep Hatcher, Kukkonen and Jones on the bottom pairing or the pressbox and out of the top 4. Before, they were forced to give players lots of icetime, same as we did to Brisebois and Rivet. Denis Gauthier is also a good guy to have. Really, what they're waiting for is Carter to break out. I have a feeling he stays healthy and breaks out this year and then they're back in business. Inconsistent goaltending could be a problem for them though. JoeLassister
Higgins and Markov really are the bes money for value signing so far this summer considering Timo and Hartnell contracts. I think we just signed 2 better players half of the price Philly paid...
BTH
Higgins was an RFA though. On the open market he'd make a couple million more.

dark_faerie87
Come on not a couple million more. I'd say about $3.5M-$4M.
BTH
Hartnell probably got so much money because he's only 25. So teams can sign him without feeling like they're stealing rookies' roster spots with over-the-hill veterans. Imagine a if a 23 year old player was open to the market. Especially a player who's already proven to be atleast a very solid and complete secondliner. Higgins right now is very similar to Hartnell right now, and he will only get better so teams can feel safe giving out one of those 6 year contracts.
