Contract #47, is it not?

Yup

Farrell and Struble are like 48 and 49

So that only leaves one for a college UFA.

Unless we can dump a contract at the trade deadline.  Perhaps Dadonov.

He had some pretty productive years in Ottawa…any sense of what happened to his game?

From The Athletic, a year ago:

Quote

Chris Tierney

Cap hit: $3.5 million

Playoff experience: 12 points in 40 games

Tierney has endured a rough couple of seasons in Ottawa. After collecting a career-high 48 points in his first season with Ottawa in 2018-19, Tierney has watched his production and his role diminish under Smith. He’s only scored one goal over his past 42 games, a dry spell that has led to him seeing only 10 or 11 minutes of ice time on most nights. Tierney’s cap hit will make it difficult for him to slide into another contending team’s roster before the deadline, but he does have the most playoff experience of any Ottawa player who is currently on the trade block.

He’s just coming back after missing a couple of weeks with a lower-body injury, which probably makes him an even tougher sell at the deadline. The only way this type of deal probably makes sense is if Ottawa takes back similar money on an expiring contract or eats a portion of Tierney’s contract. There is no scenario where Tierney comes back to Ottawa next season, so maybe the Senators would be happy to get a test drive on another veteran forward in return.

Hmm, would have rather seen Teasdale or Schnarr get some action with the big club. I don't really see the point of this pick up, but maybe Hughes thinks he's the next Pitlick.

The point is to protect Laval.  Instead of dragging up Teasdale or Richard (it wouldn't be Schnarr) and making them weaker as they push for a playoff spot, they're 'recalling' Tierney instead.  He's a serviceable 4C that can play 8-10 minutes a night and perhaps allow one of the recalls to eventually go back to the Rocket.

At this point, no one should be thinking he's the next anything beyond being a short-term roster filler.  He has played nearly 600 NHL games, he's a pretty well-known commodity at this point compared to someone like Pitlick who had just 31 games at the time he was claimed.
