JoeLassister
West roster has been announced. http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=29090 A few good guys will be there for the 1rst time : Boyle, Brown, Backstrom and Weber. Mike Modano for Dallas... There are 3 better scorers on the team... Is it because he'll retire at the end of the season ? Did he already said it ? The East will be announced tomorrow. CerebusClone
Mike Modano for Dallas... There are 3 better scorers on the team... Is it because he'll retire at the end of the season ? Did he already said it ? Reputation probably has a little to do with it, but he's also their best and most reliable player this season. Fanpuck33
Where's Nabokov ?? Taking a break during the All-Star festivities, as he should be. No way he should be an All-Star. He's not in the top 15 in GAA or SV%. If a Western goalie was snubbed, it was Steve Mason. He has the best stats in the league on a mediocre team, and he's even played more games than Luongo. What really sucks was Giguere getting voted in. He hasn't even been the best goalie on his own team!
jetsniper
Yeah, Mason got jacked. It's the "everyone has to be represented" rule, Backstrom and Luongo are the most likely candidates from their respective teams while Rick Nash already got a spot for Columbus. It's always been a bullshit rule. It's ridiculous anyone from the Avs is on the team. The only one deserving was Staz and he's injured for the ASG again. ForumGhost
Hejduk? For real? Is Smith injured? Also, how does Tkachuk get in over Boyes? Boyes is leading in points on his team. Not to mention Tkachuk has only scored twice in his last 14... West has one hell of a defense this year though... EDIT: Eastern roster looks fine, no major snubs. Staal is only there because no one else on the Canes deserves it though. Edited January 8, 2009 by ForumGhost

Cam ward could've gotten it too but with Thomas and Lundqvist in they chose Staal.
ForumGhost
Well no one on the Avs really deserves to go, but if you have to go with someone, I would at least go with the guy who is an overall better player, even if he's having a mediocre season. Plus, he's only behind Hejduk by one goal and one assist anyways.
jetsniper
Mediocre season? Smyth is producing at his usual rate. Counting injuries though, Hejduk has been our best player so far plus he's a lot more offensively inclined, he'll suit the ASG more then Smyth. They would've chosen Stastny again though but obviously he won't be back before the ASG. Theres really nothing wrong with the Eastern team but the West is all screwed up. I'd like to see Wolski at the game just for the skills competition or even for the actual game. He'd be fun to watch, some of the best hands in the league and really creative with the puck. JoeLassister
Yeah, there is no garbage goal contest, so they're better off with Hejduk than Smyth...

ForumGhost
Yeah well, a goal is a goal. I would rather have Smyth on my team any day, he's an all around great player, total package and a lot of character. Plus, it's not like he can't anyways. Also, another goal for him tonight, so that ties him with Hejduk. Edited January 9, 2009 by ForumGhost
jetsniper
If both are playing their absolute best, I'd take Hejduk. But what do I care, both are on my team anyway!
JoeLassister
It has been anounced that Kovy will take part in the "freestyle shootout" contest at the skills contest. rds.ca says that Ovy, Kovy, Crosby, Kane and Getzlaf will be in. The stupidity of RDS once again strikes as they miss 1 guy from the West.

Guess it'll be something more for the fans rather then for the Conference totals if the West doesn't get an equal amount.

rafikz
Extra tickets are on sale (online only), starting this Thursday at 1:00 pm Those prices are insane
JoeLassister
Extra tickets are on sale (online only), starting this Thursday at 1:00 pm Those prices are insane not that much 250$ for the whole weekend in the whites is correct and WAY under expectations. Carbo just said that if Price can't play soon, the Canadien will ask him to give up the All Star game. Fair enough but a huge dissapointment that would be for the fans. It's all individuals now, much like the NBA format. Players pick which one(s) they want to be in, except for the knockout shootout contest, where everyone participates.
