No matter which way you look at team #s, its a bad start.

worst in WHL with -22 goal differential

top scorer has 3 goals

Sutter only has 2 points, etc etc

The memorial cup organizers must be a bit worried, but only played 8 games so still early.

I think the coach has completely lost the respect of the kids.

I fear I might be at risk of moaning Cole Caufield's stat line during sex.

Its been too long between Habs games and I might be drunk.

I still think it best to go the NCAA route for at least one year, look at Poehling now after waiting couple years, being in weight room twice a day and practising more than playing. Let the kid adjust

Magnus Nygren, a d-man drafted as an overager from Sweden last year, is off to a nice start with Farjestad of the SEL. He has 4 goals and 2 assists in 12 games so far with an even rating. His ice time is also up nearly 7 minutes per game from last season.

Speaking of Swedish prospects, Erik Nystrom (a 6th rounder last June), is tied for the junior leagues' lead in assists (with 10) and sits in the top-10 in points (with 11).

The Season previews move on the QMJHL. We look at the Maritime Division which is home to the 2-time defending Q Champs in Saint John, and the latest prospect wonderkid, Nathan MacKinnon

http://lastwordonspo...eview-maritime/

Just how good is William Carrier of Cape Breton? Is he almost an equal of MacKinnon and just underrated, or does the 9 month difference in age play a big factor.

As he plays on a much weaker team with no top quality linemate like Drouin to help out and stat wise is basically a wash with MacKinnon over last year and a bit?

MacKinnon is head and shoulders above any other draft eligible player in the Q. He just does more than Carrier will do.

As for not having a linemate... Carrier still had Jonathan Brunelle who put up 85 points, and outscored Carrier by 15 points last season.

Remember that just because Brunelle may not be a great NHL prospect... as a 19 year old in the Q vs the 16 year old Drouin.... Brunelle is just as good and maybe even better. Same with Lavoie this season. These 19 year olds might not get big hype but when its their fourth year of junior hockey they become damn good players (at that level).

As for Carrier himself.... I see him as a first rounder, somewhere between 15-25. He's good, but he's just not in MacKinnon's league.

He's a nice complimentary piece on a first line. MacKinnon is a guy you build a franchise around.

It's not exactly the easiest to find on here but Dalton Thrower has been suspended indefinitely by the WHL for a game misconduct from last night (hitting to the head).

Galchenyuk has 2 assists and is +2 late in the 3rd as the Sting lead the Soo. This gives him 12 points in 9 games which puts him in an 11-way tie for 14th in OHL scoring.

thanks

just seems MacKinnon is being a bit overhyped is all (but he just isnt a prodigy like Crosby or even close), similar to Seth Jones vs several other WHL d-men (like Pulock, Morrissey, Theodore).

Sure both are very good, but that much better than competition?

Anyone have a video of the hit?

I don't think MacKinnon is as good as Crosby either. But

But can he be as good as John Tavares... or even Steven Stamkos? Yup, I think he's a franchise level player, just not a generational player like Sid.

In Habs news

1 goal 2 assists for Hudon

1 assist for Vail

1 goal 3 assists for Dietz

Nice to see some positive news from Saskatoon.

Bozon held off scoresheet, but team still rolling along and undefeated in beating a solid Calgary team.

Watched Archambault play on Friday vs Halifax on TVA, 1st time ever seen him play and he looked pretty good and 2nd star of game. Mackinnon looked OK and showed couple quick bursts.

Thrower's hit is on Oct 13 game highlights on Blades website, was open ice hit where he caught guy with head down crossing blueline, but left his feet and elbow/shoulder caught the head, if hadnt jumped would of been clean.

Yeah. Not the nastiest hit I've seen, but not pretty either...

probably worth 3 or 5 games? not sure how WHL dishs out suspensions?

I know they (whomever runs that league?) want zero part in taking fighting out of game, whereas OHL i think has mentioned they have thought about it, or might be for it?

Archambault is frustrating. He's talented, but he only plays half the games.

Thrower gets 2 games for the hit. He has already served the first game.

Charles Hudon is named to Team QMJHL for the upcoming Canada-Russia Super Series. There is no word yet on whether or not he'll play in both games or just one.

Good NCAA start,

Didier now listed at 6'2" and 215lbs and likely to get more icetime this year in Denver.

Bennett had 2 assists and was a +3 yesterday.

MacMillan had 2 goals yesterday to start season (only had 15 skaters, due to suspensions/injuries, MacMillan maybe another super late pick for Timmins?)

They friggin show Collberg as not getting 1 shift yet into the 2nd period today? Doubt he will develop much only in practice? Sens had same issue last year with Zibenijad lack of icetime.

yes Bozon up to 18 points in 12 games with Hudon on similar pace (till injury) and Vail/Galchenyuk/Archambault only slightly less pace, but still early in season.

Collberg has had many games where he hasn't gotten a single shift.

He needs to be sent down to the U20 league if they won't play them.

Seems odd, in the interviews around combine/draft, Collberg seemed pretty damn set on returning to Sweden and had zero interest in considering a CHL option?

He must of thought he could work way up to top 9 forward? (or his contract wouldnt allow CHL opt out?)

Pribyl is another who likely should of come over as well and play much bigger role on a team?

Pribyl just got healthy and it looks as if he has a regular role overseas which is nice to see.

His contract would need to be bought out by a CHL team if they wanted him.

Its a moot point now though, because if a a CHL team wanted him they would have had to draft him in the July Import draft... and no one did (didn't want to waste picks on a guy who will never play).

How bout Darren Dietz, he got both of Saskatoon's 2 goals and now up to 6 so far, but in another loss (and he somehow managed to be a -3 in a 3-2 loss).

I almost think Bozon is sort of in a similar situation as Holland last year and Kamloops has several super offensive guys who are helping him put up good #s; which sounds like the opposite of Sarnia.

But of course Bozon is much more a scorer than Holland is.
