As far as Beaulieu and Timordi go, I think you need to look at how Hedman has come into his own since lady year. TB let him learn to play the NHL game and now he is the 1st round stud everyone thought he would be. Beaulieu and Tinordi need to be allowed to make mistakes as part of their development. Dmen take time to develop. They aren't going to adapt to NHL speed and skill in Hamilton. Tinordi in particular has to be allowed to make mistakes. Big guys take longer- see Chara and Hedman.

Mistakes they make are part of the development process. Mistakes guys like Bouillon would make is a mistake in allotment of ice time.

Beaulieu is being eased in exactly as he should be IMHO, and had his ice time raised when the veterans were stinking out the joint, Tinordi had, by most accounts, an erratic training camp, so he isn't exactly kicking the door down, but he is also getting his chances. I don't see a problem here, myself. What I was suggesting is that when these guys are playing 20+ minutes that is not a sign of a thriving team.

Play them a ton. Let them make mistakes and develope . The vets are making just as many or mistakes anyways. Not like you will cut down on mistakes by cutting the two young guys ice time. .

Tbay sandwhich slaughtering the habs with losses to the Sens and Devils. ouch

There's nothing to panic about. If you read about other teams, most of what you'll read is calling for teams to get their systems together, show a complete effort and leadership. 3-1 is a great start to the season.

Nice to see Eller is already stinking out the place. -6 with zero points in four games. That third line is what I'm worried about. That line could combine for less than twenty goals this season.

You do realize that he rarely gets any offensive zone faceoffs. He would look a lot better if he got his fair share.

-6 is straight garbage. I've had Eller's back through it all, but I thought he would have a much stronger start. If he doesn't pick it up 10-15 games then its time to start worrying. I still have faith though.

Here we go again. "Poor little Lars." "Give Beaulieu 30 minutes a night." Please. If you want to win games, PK Subban has to be better than Beaulieu, and if he's not, we're a lottery team. As for Eller, LET HIM EARN SOMETHING. So far he has earned nothing but our frustration and contempt.

I'm honestly all for giving Borque a quick stint on top line. He's never played with Pac or DD. I mentioned it last year too. Why not give him a look?

We went from being ready to give him the number one center spot after 10 games in 13-14 to wishing he is hit by a train in 4 games.

I never wanted him to be number one centre, and I don't want him hit by a train. I want him to live up to people's expectations of him. "Potential" doesn't cut it. Putting 50+ points on the board for the year will - Since he's not a defensive shut-down specialist (at all), that's what 3.5 million dollars is supposed to do for you. If he doesn't start doing that, he's a bust.

I agree. If he doesn't put up 50, he's a pretty big let down.

Tinordi and Pacioretty same point toal and Tinordi only played 2 games, no PP time and 1/2 the icetime? Pacioretty is a big let down!!!! Get working the phones Bergy!!!

What can we get for Max? Kane? Kessel?

(I know Tinordi has played vs weaker opposition and not proposing he play on top line...yet)

Sky aint fallin quite yet. :hyper:

In general, I agree. In the case of Eller, this is just a continuation of his normal regular season performance from last year, so it is NOT too early to be discussing it.

Eller is a case where I don't want to be "proven right." If he becomes a Jordan Staal-type, he will be hugely valuable to this team. But I've been sounding a note of skepticism about him for some time now, because I've seen guys like this before (Bulis being the prototype). Potential means nothing. Short hot spells mean nothing. He has to do it on a regular basis. And until he does, as I've been relentlessly insisting, we are CRAZY to trade away proven glue guys like Pleks, or proven producers like DD, to "make room" for him. There simply is no substitute for earning it. And if he doesn't earn it, then he can be added to the huge pile of guys labelled "Wasted Potential."

50 points on the third line with no powerplay time is rare. I think the only player who pulled that off last season was Brad Marchand.

I'm good with 35-40 on a consistent basis. No six week burst and then invisible for the rest of the season. He's got a rookie and Bourque on his wing. 50 points with no PP in tatty situation and we're pretty much wasting an elite player.

Temper expectations with context.

Exactly--- Desharnais got 52pts last year with number one power play time and with the hottest wingers at the time and he is a "proven producer" I see apples and oranges when it comes to opportunity

Expectations are based on the contract, not the line he is played on. We're seriously overpaying him if he's a 35-40 point third-liner; that means there's an issue with his contract. (Note: René Bourque is an anomaly, not a precedent. He is getting 3.33 million a year based on being a 27 goal a year player --which he was when he signed his contract-- not his current Eller-like lack of production.) For the habs to get value for what they are paying Eller, he needs to play himself back onto the second line.
